There's this gym that I always attend to in the place I live, its a small town gym and the gym doesn't have a trainer, the owner doesnt have time to train people.

among all the brahs there, I seems to be the most knowledgeable guy(lifting and exercise wise) in the gym through years of lifting, and I lift the heaviest among the naturals there. a lot of the guys there ask me for advice and I just share what I know and from their looks I can see they quite agree with my opinions rather then from the juice heads there.

so the owner of the gym ask if I wanted to be a trainer there because a lot of newbies are asking if there's any trainer available. as long as I bring in members to sign up for the monthly membership(RM70) then he wont ask me for profit sharing, what i charge is what I get. great!

Now I know a thing or two on weight loss, strength training, general fitness etc from lots of readings from the net, but I dont have formal education in personal training, but I have always wanted to become one. but the price of the course hinders me from joining one. but I do attend 3 days kursus kujurulatihan tahap satu(sports science) organized by the sports ministry. And I have never teach a person full time and by paid.

so just now, I were introduced by the gym staff to teach this 2 new members, they dont have any experience in gym, and would just like to get fit, money isnt a problem as long as there's results.

I don't know how much to charge, how to design a proper full 12 weeks routine, what to do on the first meet, etc, I just dont want to mess up my first client and hopefully this very client will be a kick start to a more clients in the future.

for those who have sign up a personal training before , what did the trainer do?

my plan is for the first month, i will teach them the proper movement of the most basic exercise and full body routine, 3x a week, which is the all pro simple beginner routine, and some basic nutrition plan.

second month will be push pull leg to develop more strength and to learn more isolation work for hypertrophy, 4 x week.

and final 3rd month will be HIRT to burn fats, 3x a week.

For the first meeting u can ask what is their goal and what they want to achieve then from there u can start.

For the 12 weeks session u can teach them all beginner exercise + a little bit intermediate level and teach them about diet

If you want to enhance your knowledge better buy books rather than taking any course. For intermediate program design this book was quick and decent: http://outalpha.com/downloads/the-alpha-body/

For novice program design you can simply study how Fierce 5 was designed, and look at other proven Fullbody 3x5 A-B-A type routines. Compare them and you can make countless novice programs out of it. Novices can just do A-B-A-B for a long time.

Then you can study progression systems to be implemented into your novice/intermediate programs to make them even more unique. For example compare AllPro and F5 progression method.

And just a tip, novices might make Zero/extremely minimal progress on all pro routine because lack of stimulus. For novice, make everyday a heavy day. Only then it'll work best.

Good for you although I think you didn't need to start a thread solely for this. Anyway, test your clients out first. See if they're lacking in terms of mobility and stability. If they are, fix that first. If they aren't, start them off with basic compound movements.

ur client hav simple goals. but if we look deeper into it, it means they wanna looks better n fairly fit / strong. imho, to looks better, d jiss is on d diet rather than training.

in my former fitness centre, usual for normal fitness, their program r more towards bodweight.

i guess darklight79 can gib u a point or 2 since he also if not mistake got train people as well..

no matter how you push them in the gym, you pull them force them to go workout and follow your routine

one thing that every client tends to do, they dont follow your diet, some of them even lie to you what they ate

The first month my guy didn't track his macros and gained 1kg instead of losing. I checked his MyFitnessPal log and just told him if you wan play play like this you can stay fat forever, I can't help you, you can have your money back. Dead serious.

Then he started tracking seriously and after getting results, realizing how important this is, he's been tracking strictly ever since.

It's up to the individual's, how seriously he wants it.

Agreed to armesh. Your client should be responsible for his/her own result. You guide them proper way to workout, how to control their diet. Motivate them by showing your own result or other clients result.

But if after few weeks and your client still doing with his own way, ask him to find other pt. Seems rude but don't waste your time on them. Saw a lot client at my gym that stay the same and lifting the same weight everytime they come. But those PT just care about their income and keep their eyes closed as long as their client didn't complain.

Sometimes, client that can't accept your training philosophy just can't be your client. They need to find some PT that goes with their style. Just guide them with what you know. Of course there are many courses about PT but you can just create your own training method as long as it works. Good luck on your PT path lol.

If you're new at this, you shouldn't be charging them. Teach them the basics and once you eventually know the proper routines including diet then you should charge clients accordingly.

I think you shouldn't really charge unless you're skilled/knowledgeable enough to teach people. Maybe just charge them cheap cheap to kick things off and to also gain more experience for yourself.

In my gym, the trainers there usually assess the fitness level and the flexibility of the clients. They then formulate proper exercises for them (exercises that they can perform well, mostly bodyweight exercises). I usually see them fixing their mobility issue with stretching.

There are bunch of over-charged personal trainers without proper knowledge. Fixing mobility with stretching isn't good idea IMO.
