I still don't understand, how can competitor decide who to hire in their company. It's not like a join venture or subsidiary. It's 2 separate and different entity.. rclxub.gif

National Oil Company (NOC) has a big say of what foreigners wanna do with their oil

Actually without petronas, most locals won't have the chance to work in oil n gas. Decades ago, whenever there are oil project here in msia, it was done by the westerners. Until petronas came in and set a rule that if they wanna drill oil from msia, they need local content.

Shell provide expertise in technology and know how, while petronas controls the project and learn from the big international oil companies.

Reading this makes me feel glad I left the industry 6 years ago to join an investment bank as a trader on the dealing desk. I nearly turn down the offer when I heard about how hard I have to work.

Oh man you won't believe it. The girls in the department that consult with clients are off the charts in looks. They are ambitious, aggressive and incredibly pretty.

It doesn't hurt after a long day starring at multiple screens.

yummy stuff

and they would do anything to get their ambition if u know what I mean? brows.gif

QUOTE(Binyamin @ Sep 6 2015, 06:57 AM)
SLB.

I was in Singapore for a few years with an American ib (One of those known IB you probably heard about) before I join an American hedge fund but base in their Malaysian branch a few years ago. So I never work for a Malaysian ib. (Now my company plans to close their malaysia branch and merge them with their Singapore branch by the end of this year so I will have to be back there again..)

Ib is very hard work and usually people only work until 40 years old but by that time they are multi millionaires and that is in USD not rm. Their commission after every deal with clients is between tens of thousands to tens of millions. I got bored working the dealling desk in Singapore like I got bored doing wireline in SLB my attention span is too short to do the same thing day in day out. Hedge fund (quant fund) seems to jive well with my character so far. Everyday is a different day here.

Edit: I use to joke with my ex colleague saying that had I stayed on longer on the dealling desk I would have turn into a rogue trader out of boredom and would have brought down the whole bank like how barings bank was brought down by a trader turned rogue in the 90s. So it was really for a charitable cause that I left.

The way u wrote there kinda reminds me of the movie Boiler Room...

The financial world really does sound exciting. B4 i started doing engineering, I had always wanted to try finance but didnt know the route to it (not those working in consumer banking, but those analyst like from thestar biz section which I read b4 tertiary studies or those like u) so I just choose engineering. LOLX

So it is good news eh that ur skin is save and that u are going back SG after the merger rclxms.gif

good read. Seems like they are one of the first local drillers

Interesting read... But the hell with the wrong date being put? Infact I read from bottom-up in the blog!

This david chin experience reminds me of my fren who was given scholarship in shell. My friend will do full time studying while working part time working with shell whenever class finishes. End of the day, the program went no where and it was another failed program.

Luckily my friend is on the road to recovery... from this system and back on track. well I hope so tongue.gif

Well, you think of it, I'm doing quite well with my hawker job now, is tiring but at least less headache.
Want to survive, join political party, then you can secure a position, else just wait for your time to get kicked out.
But the problem is, head hunters are hunting for me.

QUOTE(Band-Pass filter @ Oct 3 2015, 07:54 PM)
what is the impact to M'sia O&G industries after Shell axed upstream job?? Heard Petronas will follow suit??
*
6000 employees of shell currently for msia.

Part of them 1/3 (approx 2000) will be taken by petronas, as petronas and other operators (small) will take most of the assets from shell.

These 2000s might face retrenchment in a year to come as the operators are loaded wit their own ppl

The remaining 4000s shell employees, 1300 will be cut as announce by shell

Leaving 2700 shell survivors for the near future time being

Petronas... If they do cut, it is like nailing to the coffin

From what I hear, 1 mnc may close shop and shift operation to india...

And local ong co may get project due to the dwindling of oil supply already

Zeti already warn/advice us msians to learn how to do own business

We have to get ready. I know it is bad bleak news, but lets be prepared until oil recover...

I also got offer recently via Linkedin. Someone from HR PETRONAS asking me either want to join the organisation which based in Kerteh for Downstream

After a month submit CV to him, straight go to TA and SI. Luckily passed all the iview. Unfortunately the offer not  so good which reduction from my current salary.

Since I am working as contract staff now and the business in Upstream not so good,I might think to take permanent role's but reduction of the salary.  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
contractual staff get higher pay than permanent staff usually due to the nature of the contract. U are more at risk to be laid-off by the company when project ends when u are a contract staff

higher risk, higher return (salary)

My company gave on average 3-5% increment to average staffs. The top technical staffs are getting around 10% increment.

I myself managed to get 12% increment this year. Syukur..

Apparently the chairman felt that the company need to reward the employees during bad turbulent times so the employees will remember the company during the good times. Is it a good move? Financially I don't think so but as a staff, hell yeah!! smile.gif

Congrats

Ur company done well by appreciating their assets: employees

If kasawari is deferred to next 2 years, it would be bad news for Technip and its competitors who are bidding this project

It is one of their lifeline

Guys is AED 38,000 per month salary is good enough for living at Abu Dhabi? Accommodation & transportation included, the only drawback its single package. One year contract.

My only worry is the roles is not under the client payroll but it will be under pak arab punya third manpower company. I read some of horror story by those pak arab third party manpower bayar gaji lambat, and some cases tak bayar langsung.

A company, asks u to send to its emails... On a @outlook and gmail? Either headhunter or it's a complete scam

Suggest you to first google the company name and see what comes out.
