Yeah but who actually wants to browse through 50pages of it? I certainly don't. I would think an embedded chatbox is a good idea.[Suggestion] Popularity, Shows a member's popularity

Too cheesy like wKkaY said. And on average, 1k users spamming the box at the same time? What you gonna read then? A chatbox would suit a close knitted community better, not LYN.
Edit: Well if you find reading stuff like "hihi" "spam spam!", to each his own then. |

A chatbox? o_o
I can imagine that The number of active LYN members spamming the chatbox at one time WOOSH, 1000+ posts fly by. you're trying to reply to a previous post, WOOSH another 900 posts go flying by. basically it'll spam the living hell out of the chatbox. not. good. |

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Oct 24 2006, 11:25 AM) I'm thinking of doing something similar to that effect (calculating centrality), by using quotations of a member as a "vote" for him.. but it's not coming anytime soon. No way quotations is going to work.Because we always quote the topic starter's post. Well, chatbox, that's a really bad idea. Whoever suggested that deserved a warning. |

karma/reputation system: its just a matter of when we will implement it (its already under active planning). Lots of work on the technical side as well as implementation as a normal 100 points karma system will be useless considering we have 65,000 members.
chatbox/shoutbox: never. sorry but chatboxes are resource hungry monsters, and serve next to no purpose in the long run. Post today, gone tomorrow. There is countless IM software out that built specifically for that purpose. |

QUOTE(Wing @ Oct 24 2006, 11:14 AM) I've seen other site where every member have points that they can gather, like Magic Points, Health, Mana or Aura, etc. Doesn't matter what you call it. u play too many dota liau... haha~ Basically, it shows how popular each member is. And every other member vote for or against him. What do you think? QUOTE(edifgrto @ Oct 24 2006, 12:58 PM) Well, the first thing I pay attention to, when I coming to Lowyat everyday is that... my warning bar. Those Magic Points, Health, Mana or Aura sounds very far away from me... How to make the warning bar away? minimum posts per-day? getting boring...anyway, i'd think like... having a "tick" and a "cross" in everybody's post would be good. if u think his post is meaningful, or concrete, or helpful, click the "tick" and state your reasons. the user who got ticked will be able to view the comments made in a week time, but wont know who it is. same goes to "cross"... |

Btw, TBCS (www.thebestcasescenario.com) has this system where you give points if you find someone helpful, and deduct his points if he somehow get into your backside. The best thing is they have this filter system that requires the voter to insert reason(s) of vote. But here, I think the report button and words of mouth is sufficient. |

QUOTE(-=Axis=- @ Oct 24 2006, 04:50 PM) it's not wuliao. it's actually a very good feature. take a look here. you have to register by the way if not you won't able to see the member's tag. http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=87688 look at "Famine'. If you look in the expert-exchange forum where a member that give the best answer will be rewarded. bacically, the is a small tick icon under each post. if you think that's an informative, or helpful post, you tick it. one member has to accumulate certain number of ticks to be granted a Quality Post tags. Or Guide Editor tag. some sort of motivation, and appreciation. i think we have a similar system here. we granted them an elite title. |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Oct 25 2006, 02:14 AM) unfortunately quality is SUBJECTIVE. leet. so this means i vote for u, and u vote for me? EDITED : example of such post » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « i won't be surprised if some people just VOTED for someone who's post is crappy but just so happen to be align with his / her thoughts. however, if there be a system for this then i'd say allow the STAFF / ADMIN / MOD / ELITE / VIP be the people who could vote. those who have no rep points cannot vote. and for each rep point they gain, they're allow to vote. something like that, it's not clear but at least it helps from incessent careless voting. seriously though, with the number of immature sohais and noobs and little children (morons below the age of 18, usually, who think they know eveeeeeeerything) on the forums, this is going to be a little hard to implement fairly, mostly because of the immense amount of spam and me-too type posts in the forum, which do little little for constructive discussion. |

QUOTE(eBola @ Nov 12 2006, 02:15 PM) leet. so this means i vote for u, and u vote for me? Pardon me but isn't that a little absurd ? Young people are usually morons ? seriously though, with the number of immature sohais and noobs and little children (morons below the age of 18, usually, who think they know eveeeeeeerything) on the forums, this is going to be a little hard to implement fairly, mostly because of the immense amount of spam and me-too type posts in the forum, which do little little for constructive discussion. By the way, I'm against the idea of having the popularity thingy tagged on someone. Imagine the status hungry people trying to prove them self to the public...more flames, more bragging, less substance... This post has been edited by kmf123: Nov 14 2006, 10:34 PM |

If a certain member is popular at the first place, I mean well-known for his good *criticism, ideas, etc, I really fail to see the need to implement this "popularity system". Cheers!

Then later we will start having "Trade fame ?" in the forum...
Maybe through the PM too... Kopitiam serves as the Chatbox well. Only people who are NBTD will go there and read through all the 50 pages of 1000 - 2000 post. People like me so i'm satisfied. |

QUOTE(SubKi||er @ Nov 15 2006, 07:45 AM) imo, dont think so dude. the safe trader system isnt really working out too well. thats a big indicator that something similar like the trade fame idea (though i do think its a good one) wont really work. too many conmen who make good deals just to build a rep, and then bam, kena makan. |
