I've seen other site where every member have points that they can gather, like Magic Points, Health, Mana or Aura, etc. Doesn't matter what you call it.

Basically, it shows how popular each member is. And every other member vote for or against him.

What do you think?

Lowyat Idol competition?

Well, it could be something replacing the star system we've got. At the moment, the more post means more stars.

A karma system has been in the list of things to explore for awhile now, but it isn't priority.

I'm thinking of doing something similar to that effect (calculating centrality), by using quotations of a member as a "vote" for him.. but it's not coming anytime soon.

Well, the first thing I pay attention to, when I coming to Lowyat everyday is that... my warning bar. Those Magic Points, Health, Mana or Aura sounds very far away from me...

I prefer to see a chatbox in lowyat..

it's not wuliao. it's actually a very good feature. take a look here. you have to register by the way if not you won't able to see the member's tag. http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=87688 look at "Famine'.

bacically, the is a small tick icon under each post. if you think that's an informative, or helpful post, you tick it. one member has to accumulate certain number of ticks to be granted a Quality Post tags. Or Guide Editor tag. some sort of motivation, and appreciation. i think we have a similar system here. we granted them an elite title.

That's even better than reputation points!! But, centrality for which topic? Good or Evil? Left wing or right wing?

We'll have to see.

but in LYN its not easy to be awarded an Elite Selection of Elite/VIP is solely depends on staff/admin/moderator

ya, I would support wK and Axis' idea too That will filter out the quality posters compared to other which only has more stars, but posting more rubbish

Yup, that would be great, if done right. That way we can see who makes the quality posts and who posts a lot of crap. However such a system can be quite easily abused, so there has to be some restrictions as to which members can give rep points. Some forum limits this to members with 1000+ posts and do not have negative total rep points.

unfortunately quality is SUBJECTIVE.

i won't be surprised if some people just VOTED for someone who's post is crappy but just so happen to be align with his / her thoughts.

however, if there be a system for this then i'd say allow the STAFF / ADMIN / MOD / ELITE / VIP be the people who could vote.

those who have no rep points cannot vote. and for each rep point they gain, they're allow to vote.

something like that, it's not clear but at least it helps from incessent careless voting.
