Hello all!

Okay, so recently my laptop just died all of a sudden. I was somewhat expecting it because it was showing signs of faultiness here and there
(FYI, its a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista)

So obviously, I'd want to get a new one. I'm not good with technology nor do I keep up to date with these kinds of stuff so I was wondering whether anyone could recommend me some ideas/brands to look at?

Here are my criteria:

1. Laptop (Portable, & I dont have space for a computer)

2. Preferably Windows (cause I think Macs are overpriced if I'm not mistaken? Also, I'm very used to Windows)

3. It needs to at least be able to play Sims 4 (and/or some mainstream Steam games like L4D2) smoothly

4. A reliable brand(?) that lasts long (I don't expect it to last forever, but my previous laptop honestly has problems ever since the 2nd or 3rd month I had it)

5. Cheap (I'm a student. I'm willing to spend for this, but in no way I'm going to spend, say, for an "Alienware" or whatchamacall it)

I'm sorry if I sound really stupid, but as you can tell, I don't know much about computers/laptops! So any form of help would be nice!

Thank you!

If you want a gaming notebook prepare to spend 2K or 3K above (i5 or i7 processor).

If you just doing homework and go online, you can buy a netbook (Acer netbook RM810 excluded GST).

recommend to have Asus or Lenovo laptop

For simple gaming, I think as far got graphic card will do unless you want to play with ultra setting. For study, you may want to look for light weight and long battery life.

Suggest to drop by to any computer shop and take some booklet from them to study the spec that suit u.

If you want some light gaming, try a laptop with low power dedicated graphics such as GT550/640/730/740/830/840/930M from nVidia. A core i3 would suffice but I would recommend a core i5. Try lurking in the lowyat forum garage sales sub-forum to search laptop with these specs, they usually range from RM1400-RM2500

Windows vista is bad, if your laptop specs are still decent, you could try dropping in an ssd and installing win8.1 on it.
I think all brands are not significantly different for their low end products, you get what you pay for more or less.

Nope its completely dead. I know Vista has its issues but I was willing to overlook them (slow start ups, etc.), but now the problem is also the fact that I had a Toshiba laptop.

Toshiba sucks apparently. 2-3 months of owning it and it already started to overheat whenever I watch YOUTUBE VIDEOS (let alone, gaming).

I had to invest in a cooling pad.

My laptop cant even start up any more whenever I click the power button.

Now I'm just wondering whether (1) I can take out and save the contents of my hard drives and (2) possibly sell whatever's left for some money haha
