故曰:知彼知己,百戰不殆;不知彼而知己,一勝一負;不知彼,不知己,每戰必殆。
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss. If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose. If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself. Taken from Art of War |

Sifu-Sifu sekalian,
A question that has been bothering me. 1. Company mau go IPO. In main market. They offer an amount of shares at a fixed price. 2. Investors buy those up, thus investing in the company directly, and therefore it directly benefits the company. Raise capital. 3. The shares then go into our secondary market, a.k.a the stock exchange. Whereby any further trade or money has no impact on the company. The transfer of "investment" is simply transfer of money from one investor to another investor. 4. 5. Assuming companies do offer Secondary Public Offereing(SPO), then I see some use the share price is to the company, other than that... 6. But I don't seem to see any SPO also Sifu-Sifu sekalian do you have answer to my predicament above ar? |

Non-sifu answer
1. Even when company goes IPO, a large chunk of the company is still held by the major shareholders. These people want to be more rich. Some even take margin loans to increase their stakes pre-IPO. A smaller chunk get offered to insti investors and even smaller chunk get offered to retail investors. 2. Companies do raise capital in the secondary market. Look at rights issues and placements. |

QUOTE(Cubalagi @ May 8 2015, 08:40 AM) Non-sifu answer Thanks Sifu for the nice explanations..1. A company is just like a car ..non human.....behind it..still needs human/people to operate it ...the workforce.. management..Directors ..and shareholders who influence the decision makings ... The majority shareholders still have controls over the company per se...they do not sell every single share upon listing... This post has been edited by SKY 1809: May 8 2015, 08:47 AM |
