Does the Yong Nuo has high speed sync?
This is the one thing that Nissin di622 doesn't have and is very troublesome..
Very useful for portraiture and using fill light

impossible to get HSS at this price point. you will require special trigger system too, not only a HSS capable flash if you want to use it wireless.

Before spending that much on a wireless HSS system, do take note it has limitations and see if it's enough to fulfill your requirement.
Power is a lot lesser than regular mode.

talk about waking up from sleep, my YN600EX-RT is a TTL flash, and it doesn't wake up from sleep no matter how you fire your shots. Just have of OFF / ON the fella.

The higher end ones like YN 568 EXii and YN 600EX-rt has HSS.

if want to do off camera flash with high sync speed ....

If you are a beginner, I'll suggest you get the Nikon flash. Reason being that you will learn all that much better and you will learn the full features of the Nikon body with the flash.

Using third party flashes there are bound to be some features that are incompatible or non-accessible. Furthermore you may get confused as these limitations may get in the way of your learning about flash photography.

Once you have a good grasp of using the flash you may opt to get third party as slaves.

Sure, you will need to pay more up front but think of it as paying your tuition fees to learn flash photography.

if its your first flash or primary flash (or workhorse flash) get back Nikon's one. (there is already more then 5 ELITE reply giving same advise, u know we all are telling a serious advise)

only get YN for its cheap price(value) for slaves(2nd/3rd/4th) flash uses only.

if one day you landed a good pay job, and 3rd party flash might screw everything up... you will not go wrong with nikon flash (as primary flash)

and dont go worry bout HSS yet, you start from basics learning bounce flash first, HSS comes in advance "turning day into night" effect, which is far away

mostly i will follow your suggestion to go for the nikon flash ....

There are good 3rd party flash as well, brands like Metz for example, probably can outdo Nikon's flashes. Malaysia's top wedding photographers are Metz ambassadors too but Metz flash can cost just as much (or more) than Nikon flash.

For hobbyists - I'd recommend just going Yongnuo. Cheap and good to try, I use it for many events now. They're not bad at all.

If you foresee getting paid jobs and such the Nikon flash would be better compared to 3rd party.

One advantage of getting Nikon flash to use on Nikon body would be, in case shit happens, the brands won't be able to blame one another.

Well I just played with my YN 560iv as on camera flash just now. I just realized it does not has AF assist beam. That's not good... Its quite an essential feature for on camera flash imo. There are Yong Nuo flashes that do have AF assist beams especially those that have ETTL on them.

The AF assist beam (like a laser guided laser beam, bit its actually infra red) can help focus in the dark. You can turn off the lights in your room and still get accurate focus with that beam.

Edit: I got the YN 560iv for off camera flash and they are pretty good at that job.

i've never used the focus assist beam on my nikon flashes before.
that said, the nissin i once had, the focus assist beam was quite off centered...so i never used it also

looking for that model too .. together with YN-E3-RT..
