Need some feedback from those that are familiar with Chevrolet Captiva. I'm keen on getting a new SUV, was looking at Mazda CX5 until I visited Chevrolet. They offered their 2013 Chevrolet Captiva 2.5 Petrol for around RM138k. Comes with standard warranty and service package and plus its a CBU unit. Mazda CX5 high spec 2.0 CKD is around the same price as well. Do you think I should go ahead with Captiva or CX5?

are you sure its has 2.5l petrol engine.. if refer carbase.my only available 2.0l and 2.4l with price tag from RM158k-168K for new one.. is it urs is 2ndhand or unregistered?

Sorry my bad, its 2.4l petrol..retail price is at RM164k, they r offering RM25k discount for their 2013 model. That puts the Captiva within the same retail pricing bracket with CX5.

Don't really know someone that owned/owns a Captiva. Appreciate if someone could provide some insight in regards to comparing Captiva 2.4l petrol (CBU) vs CX5 2.0 high spec (CKD).

Price for diesel and petrol not much different already but the road tax for diesel will "kill" you.

With regards to 2.4L Captiva or 2.0L CX5 the road tax is RM400 difference. May or may not be important to the TS.

The sales person told me the same thing. Any opinion in terms of the maintenance cost (including cost of spare parts) involved in up keeping these vehicles?. Will be mainly used over the weekend, within the city center.

Big difference in fuel consumption for Diesel vs Petrol. Don't only see the price per litre . Look at chemistry wise, diesel burns slower than petrol . Diesel has much more low-end torque than petrol which is critical for heavy vehicles. So you don't have to hit the throttle so much for the car to accelerate.

In Europe, diesel is more expensive than petrol but people there still like diesel over petrol cars due to good fuel consumption.

You need to also check the 2nd hand value on the road, because technically it is already 2 years old in stock. Irregardless, your car's date of manufacturing will be 2013

Go to carlist.my or something - 2012 model 2nd hand is selling at about RM85k.. Make sure that the selling price is right about at the 2nd hand value (or estimation)

Unless your mileage is like a taxi driver the road tax for diesel engine isn't going to be worth it.

Captiva is 7 seaters while CX5 is only 5 seaters. If you don't mind with less seaters I would suggest you go with CX5 as this is newer technology than captiva and resell value is definately better.
