QUOTE(Zot @ Feb 25 2020, 04:23 PM) Need to get up and walk also. If everything remote and through phone suddenly phone not working dunno what to do True also, smart switches need to have the manual control interface as well. otherwise when connectivity is down or phone is low battery nothing can work I think better to visit some physical shop like Ai Home for my first setup la |

Is there a difference in terms of wired or wireless tuya zigbee hub other than connection type?

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Feb 17 2022, 05:08 PM) QUOTE(Zot @ Feb 18 2022, 08:45 AM) I guess we follow UK or stick to old wiring. It reduces cost. If require N wire at switch box then, you need additional wire pulled to the switch. Therefore, you would have 4 wires at the switch connection since you would be looping the N wire at the switch level instead on ceiling. just opened up the existing switches that I intend to replace and confirmed they don't have a Neutral line. I'm trying to implement a local Home Assistant automation, can Tuya zigbee switches, contact, temperature and brightness sensors able to integrate into HA? |

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Feb 24 2022, 11:45 AM) Got price hike also right? Not sure about the price hike, I got the rpi4b with 32gb micro SD at RM393. Update: The rpi4b kits are back in stock on CytronAlso, anyone here tried using radar sensor (RCWL-0516) for room occupancy? Going to try with some Tuya PIR sensor before getting more advanced radar sensor. This post has been edited by ntw: Feb 24 2022, 06:01 PM |

hi all, been testing Home Assistant automation for a week now. I realize the automation sometimes are not triggered, for example: turn on the lights & fan when the door sensor is open; turn off when motion sensor detected no motion for 5min; but a few times I noticed the devices doesn't get triggered. Is there a way for me to check what went wrong?
More info about my setup, using moes zigbee switches, tuya door sensor on second floor, zigbee gateway in ground floor |

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Mar 10 2022, 06:08 PM) I wonder if this has something to do with zigbee signal coverage just checked the signal strength using Smart Life app and it shows the Door sensor and Motion sensor as bad connection, though a tuya zigbee switch is in the same room. ordered the sonoff stick to be placed on the second floor, hope it will solve the issueCan you check lqi for the door sensor |

QUOTE(Agathon55 @ Mar 14 2022, 11:12 AM) Double check if your Tuya switches support the repeater function. Especially if it's non-neutral, as most won't act as a zigbee repeater. Cheap alternative repeaters are zigbee smart plugs (though you'll need to verify the repeater function as not all have it). yep, its clear that the moes no-neutral switches are zigbee end devices, they do not support repeater function. using the zha integration for devices/ sensors on first floor and tuya gateway on ground floor. might just order another sonoff stick to act as repeater on the ground floor. |

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Mar 16 2022, 05:52 PM) Thinking of getting this xiaomi home sensor set. Door and window sensor to trigger my purifiers to stop operating when I open my windows. The xiaomi wireless cctv set is battery-powered and need its own receiver (available as a bundle). The receiver is then paired to Mi Home app to view the footage. The xiaomi multi-function gateway in the Mi Smart Sensor Set connects to the sensor or other xiaomi zigbee devices and is not able to pair with the wireless cctv.https://shopee.com.my/product/371549/143301...54-1647423876.9 Motion sensor maybe to trigger a Yeelight or a night light which I may get in the future Is the multi functional gateway also used to connect to their xiaomi wireless CCTV? This CCTV I think needs to be paired with a receiver, so in this case is the gateway actually a receiver in the shopee item below? https://shopee.com.my/product/724335/125017...54-1647424229.9 ![]() |

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Mar 17 2022, 08:52 AM) Thanks. I too just started with smart home, for now I am using door sensors, motion sensors, brightness & temperature sensors to automate zigbee switches, smart plugs and air purifiers in the house. I started with Mi Home and Tuya Smart Life, now I'm trying to integrate the automations on Home AssistantI am guessing sensors usually need a gateway as they do not have WiFi chips inside due to the size. What other sensors do you recommend for a smart home? I will be getting a robot vacuum and some smart switches + WiFi plugs in the future. |

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Mar 18 2022, 01:07 PM) Xiaomi Honeywell smoke detector can be paired with the gateway from the smart sensor set? the honeywell smoke detector needs a bluetooth gateway, while the sensor set only comes with zigbee gateway. you need something like this -> https://shopee.com.my/Xiaomi-Mi-Smart-Home-...e8-a055def03fbe![]() It says Bluetooth gateway so im not sure if the gateway below can work? https://shopee.com.my/product/399455902/104...54-1647579874.9 seems like you want to start your journey with xiaomi ecosystem. double-check whether your xiaomi devices are region locked before buying, some can only connect to Mi Home app China region only, whereas some are global. |

QUOTE(underscore_lee @ Mar 20 2022, 03:45 PM) Hi guys, first time exploring smart devices for homes so not sure where to start and what to be done, hope can get some advice cuz after reading online still tak faham. 1. Aqara app is used to tie your aqara devices to your aqara account. Apple Homekit/ Google Home is where you can integrate few different brands of smart devices to control it from one single app. But before you can any devices into either Apple Homekit/ Google Home, you will need to make sure the devices own app support Homekit or Google Home integration. For example I have Xiaomi air purifier (wifi), Yeelight led bulbs (wifi), Tuya door sensors (zigbee), Sonoff wireless relay (zigbee), so I need to to have xiaomi app to add the air purifier, yeelight app to add the led bulbs, tuya app and its hub to add the door sensors, and sonoff app and its hub to add the smart relay. Then finally I can link these account in Apple Homekit/ Google Home to control the devices. Suggestion is to stick with one reliable brand that have devices that cover most of your needs. There are also universal option that can talk to different brands but that's a longer story1. What is the difference of running Aqara app vs Apple Homekit vs Google Home? Is there a way that can integrated all 3 together? 2. What is ZipBee? How to know whether the house needs a 'hub'? 3. Difference between Neutral switches and Non-Neutral switches is just the ZipBee feature & able to calculate used voltage right? Is it a must to have Neutral switches? Context: - I'm currently reno-ing a condo unit, so I was thinking of "smart"-ing my unit for own stay since need to engage electrician to do extra plug points. - I'm totally new to this so in my mind I'm only thinking of having an easy access to turn on/off lights, play music via voice assistant, or set simple automation. - The electrician I'm engaging seems to be old school uncle style also. Donno much about smart switches but he say he can install it. He suggest not to pull Neutral because it will cost alot. Currently, I have 4x aircond with WiFi (Daikin models) and am gonna get a Avant Digital Smart Lock. I'm planning to get a few Aqara switches (3Gang, 2Gang and 1 Gangs) for fan + lights. I'm thinking of simple automation like; - Once the digital smart lock is unlocked, auto turn on the lights and on living room air cond. - If the lights/air cond are already turned on, then when closing the main door (digital smart lock is closed), everything auto off. I'm an iPhone + Apple Watch user, but I don't think I'll be getting the HomePod Mini due to pricing. So I'm planning to get Google Home Mini Nest instead (a few devices - 1 for living room, 1 for study, 1 for master, 1 for kitchen). Any suggestions on what I should do, or read up on? And what else automation can I do. Appreciate if you can explain to me like a 5 year old, thank you! 2. Zigbee is a wireless transmission protocol used by most smart devices, there's also Bluetooth/ Radio Frequencey (RF)/ Wifi capable smart devices. For zigbee/ bluetooth or rf smart devices you will need a hub for it. And the hub can usually detect devices from its own brand. 3. Neutral are recommended but there are also non-neutral smart switches. Low-voltage devices such as low powered led light may flicker running on no-neutral switches, and require additional capacitor to stop the flickering 4. Google Home's routine is quite limited, it won't be able to start automations based device trigger, eg turn on fan when smart door is unlocked. I think Apple Homekit will be able to do this, I personally is using Home Assistant. Since you already have Apple devices, you should go for Homekit and search for Homekit supported smart home devices/ speakers. If I'm not mistaken, Google Nest Mini doesn't work with Apple Homekit This post has been edited by ntw: Mar 20 2022, 04:30 PM underscore_lee liked this post

QUOTE(underscore_lee @ Mar 20 2022, 07:33 PM) TQ bro for your reply. So basically I can start off with getting Aqara switches first, and try to get each switch points to have 'neutral' installed. Will try to ask my electrician and see how much it would cost overall for the entire unit lol. The Aqara D1/ H1 switches are zigbee, so you will definitely need the zigbee hub too. The aqara switches have no-neutral versions, so you can start with those, example -> https://shopee.com.my/Aqara-Wall-Switch-D1-...74-721b33fb740fWhen will I need to get a Zigbee? What kind of automation would need it? I'm thinking just turning on/off lights, and on/off air cond for now. So probably not needed? Ok noted on the Google Home and Nest Mini. Guess I'll need to find some voice assistance that can work with Apple Homekit. Any suggestions with similar price range to Nest Mini? BTW, have you guys heard of Avant Smart Solutions & Smart Switches? Not sure whether to go with Avant or Aqara. Only plus point is the Avant Smart Switches can sync with the digital smart lock door. Thanks! Check with your Avant smart door lock provider which app they are using and whether the door lock is compatible with Apple Homekit/ Aqara Home app. Seems like they also have Aqara smart lock on their website. Also check whether your Daikin airconds can integrate with Apple Homekit. Install the app on your phone and check the list of compatible devices/ app. |

QUOTE(Calvin Seak @ Mar 23 2022, 06:10 AM) Woahhh thank you for sharing! That's really alot of information to digest hey swim-bike-run sifu, HA can work with many brands, aqara/sonoff/tuya works. I'm still new, not sure if there are other recommended brands from other experienced tinkerer hereI've just came across HA since I just gotten a new place.. Is aqara recommended for HA or are there other brands that i should look out for in Malaysia? |
