Don't think you can fit the sonoff into the wall switch and you will need a neutral lead
You can try installing it above your plaster ceiling to control a few lights
*
Yeah just put next to the light or inside the light before the driver.

water pump only turns on when water is running, so I dont see why you need to turn off/on via an app
*
in case of leak, this can help turn of the pump instead of keep pumping. some motor can do dry run some will burn if dry run for too long especially seal part.

If that's the case, wouldn't it be better if I just get the XiaoMi Gateway and use all XiaoMi products?

As long as xiaomi zigbee device is not managed by xiaomi gateway, it won't send info back to China.
*
thats why i choose to use it with samsung smartthings as my hub, reaction also faster.

Yup. that's the only draw back. I can live with it cos they are cheap.

Btw, how much are other compatible hubs / gateways that works with xiaomi zigbees?
*
so far i only know Samsung Smartthings hub works with xiaomi zigbees as they using same wave. others sensors are more expansive and need to import from US.

For my setup, I don't think I dealt with any broadlink batch file/script
Easier way to add the broadlink devices is by following this guy's steps in the description (he's using it for google home, echo also can)

You'll just need to add your homeassistant ip/login info

Hi guys, what's the cheapest 2 button wall switch that's compatible with smartthing? The cheapest I found is Aqara ZigBee which is about 99RMB.

Planned to use it to control indoor ceiling lights.
*
ZigBee provide feedback to smartthings hub which is better than Broadlink which is only 1 way. you need other sensor like temperature, present, switches to feedback that environment status.

My smart home system has been straight forward and very simple in design. In spite of  that, my boss says that after I'm dead, she wont know how to work things and will "tear out everything" (her words) once I am gone.....

Didnt realize this is a real concern until I watch this  sweat.gif

The app was auto-updated 3 days ago in my phone. Was surprised with the new layout appearance when I first saw it.
Encountered at least 2 times of incidences where the system hanged and claimed itself offline :-(
After reseting (off & on) the hard switch of the lights, the problem solved.
Seems that this updated version is not as good as the previous version ... somehow, contrary to one of the stated reason for the upgrade.

is time to ditch server base control and move forward to mqtt local controls

Have you try Tuya/Geeklink before for comparison?
*
no compared to sonoff and xiaomi eco system, learning naming broadlink quote straight forward. so far used for 2 years seldom encounter any issue beside when broadlink disconnected with alexa previous when they shifting server.
