Hi guys! I'm planning to get a new laptop ASAP but I'm not sure which to get.

1. Preferred Brand - Acer or Asus
2. Budget - Around RM2000
3. Usage - Internet surfing (Facebook/Youtube mostly), gaming (Diablo 3), school stuff (MS Words/Excel)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15 and up if possible

I saw one while I was surveying around town. Its Acer Aspire E5-573G-55DLi

Is it good? Or are there any better options. It will be used to play Diablo 3 a lot.
*
Acer Aspire E5-573G-55DLi has Nvidia GeForce 940M which enables you to go for ultra settings (1920 x 1080) at around 53fps in Diablo 3. A lifespan of laptop depends whether you do regular maintenance and take care of your laptop. For instance, repaste thermal paste and etc. Usually they will last is 3 to 4 years but with good care can last even longer.

1. Preferred Brand - Dell, Asus, Lenovo.
2. Budget - RM 2000.00 - RM 3000.00
3. Usage- Multimedia, Programming, College Work, Photoshop.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 15'6, prefer FHD.

I'm currently looking at Zenbook UX305 which fit my budget but the processing power of this laptop is too low, I'm worrying about that. Other than that, I'm looking at Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series, the specs is quite good but it doesn't have FHD screen and the battery life is quite bad.
*
You may have a look at this model too. U have to pay a bit more though. biggrin.gif

Asus GL552JX-DM174H 15.6” FHD , i7-4720 , 4GB , 1TB , GTX950 2GB , W8.1 : RM3074/-

I always buy laptops in Penang. Most of them provide free 4gb ram upgrade. Not sure about KL hehe but still, if I am gonna be the one who choose, I will go for 7447. Haha I prefer Dell whistling.gif

Indeed 7447 hv better service n more vram... n a bloody subwoofer
*
Yeah the subwoofer just looks good with the design. Perfect! But there is one bad thing about this laptop. That is the Power LED status. We won't know when the laptop is in sleep or standby mode. Hence, it is pretty annoying with such a light indicator. Since there is only one LED indicator, they should have made an update on the indicator light. biggrin.gif

For instance,
Blink = sleep
Fully charged = light shown and no blinking
Charging = longer blinking

Opt for SSD upgrade if you have extra pocket money. SSD makes your laptop read files faster and they last longer than HDD. Because they have shock resistant up to 1500g/0.5ms. Making them less susceptible to shock and damage. icon_idea.gif

Hi,

I am owning a MacBook Air 11" Intel i5 which is meant for word processing and web browsing. Thus it is now too small screen size and unefficient for Full HD Gopro video editing.

Preferred brand : Asus, Lenovo, HP
Budget : Below RM3k
Usage : Full HD Amateur Video Editing, may be gaming later
Wishes for  rolleyes.gif  : Full HD IPS display of at least 15.6" size, non-glared display, Bluray writer, Hybrid drive

After much research, I have much liked Asus N551ZU-DM022H - http://www.lazada.com.my/asus-n551zu-dm022...ok-1448098.html

It is an AMD processor and Radeon GPU, with a spare RAM slot for upgrade.

Please comment / advise. drool.gif

What about the Lenovo Z/G series? I have zero knowledge on laptops & specs, so your opinions would really help  sweat.gif

For Lenovo G series, you can check out this one. It comes with two different screen size. Perhaps you would like the 14" one. icon_idea.gif

1. Preferred Brand - Dell
2. Budget - RM1.5k-Rm2.5k max
3. Usage - For assignments, surfing, excel, youtube.... i wonder if i3 is enough to play 1080 youtube clips smoothly.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 13 - 15"

Laptop won't be used daily as i already have a desktop. I just need this for group discussion, going to the library etc. After 1 year, i will give it to my mum.
*
According to Adobe, the minimum requirement for watching HD video is an Intel Core Duo 1.8GHz. The Core i3 processor is so much better and newer than the Core Duo that it's hard to find comparisons between them. The Core i3 is two CPU generations newer, so it's definitely well above the minimum requirements. Check the following models out. But upgrade the rams to 8gb will be better for option 2 and 3. thumbup.gif

1. Dell Vostro 14 5480-00452G-W8 Laptop/ Notebook (i3-4005U, 500GB, 8GB Cache, 4GB, NV 830M, Windows 8.1, 1.54kg) RM2,100/-
2. Dell Vostro 14 5480-0045SG-W8 Laptop/ Notebook (i3-4005U, 500GB, 4GB, Intel, Windows 8.1, 1.54kg) RM1,906/-
3. Dell Inspiron 14 5458-20452G-W8 Laptop/ Notebook (i5-5200U, 500GB, 4GB, NV 920M, Windows 8.1, 2kg) RM2,237/-

Choice 1 and 2 are both weighed 1.54kg only. I presume your mum wouldn't want a heavy and energy consuming laptop. But you can consider option 3 too. Chekc them out. thumbup.gif
