Bono and Oprah confirm iPod nano RED in Chicago





Welp, looks like those iPod nano Reds have been confirmed -- Bono and Oprah (Bonoprah?) congregated to the North Michigan Ave. Chi-town Apple Store to catch this amazing photo op. Hocking AIDS curing portable audio players never looked so fun.

Oh yeah, caption contest! Naw, you can't win anything, but it's not like we can't have a little fun at their expense.

Ryan - "Ms. Winfrey, Mr, um Bono, may I interest you in some iSplitters?"
Pete - "I wish we could afford a second iPod!"
Paul - "Yeah, I'm starting to have second thoughts about Vertigo as well."

An anonymous source claims that U2's Bono will announce a RED version of Apple's 4 GB iPod tomorrow during his appearance on Oprah. The show was apparently taped today in Chicago, and Oprah.com has the following to say about tomorrow's show:

Get "red"-y! It's something so huge, it took Oprah, Bono and a convertible to make it happen! Plus, Penelope Cruz and Kanye West are in on it! An extraordinary launch! [...] Chicago goes "red" today and this is just the beginning!
The show will be aired tomorrow, October 13th. Rumors of a RED iPod have been circulating since January. According to our source, the RED iPod would be priced similarly to current 4 GB models at $199, with $10 (5%) of each sale going to The Global Fund to help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa, where some countries have over 30% of the population affected by the disease.

Update: AppleInsider is corroborating the story, and adds that Oprah and Bono filmed a promotional video for the product at Apple's North Michigan Ave. retail store in Chicago today.

im considering returning my silver one and get the red one. But my main ceoncern is the nano's click wheel. Both my 2gb and 4gb silver nanos have defective clickwheel, probably due to the poor QC for this color since they have higher production quantity than the other colors. I'm wondering if the red one will have the same problem.

I went to an Apple shop in US. They are selling 2GB - USD149, 4GB - USD199 and 8GB - USD249. The color is really nice, and it's always the centre of attraction for all visitors that came into the shop.

dont bother thinking about buying it - any time soon.

the whole range of (RED) products - ipod nano RED, motorola l7 RED, etc - will not be sold locally any time soon. this is because these red products are in line with the (PRODUCT) RED movment.

a moto insider told me that they are still in the midst of discussing sales of their (RED) L7, and this discussion has been going on for more than 3 months already. so.... I doubt the nano (RED) will be out any time soon.

mind you, they are ready to ship in 1-2 business days over here in North America.

anyway, i think im gonna pass on the nano...the build quality is one of the worst ive ever seen. gotta return my nano before 30day's over.

the first nano i got had a scratch on the anodized casing...the seal of the casing was still on an not broken. I exchanged it for another unit and got an extra 2gb at the same time. After carefully examining them, they were both cosmetically perfect but when I finally get to touch them, both the clickwheels were defective. They were somewhat misaligned and the clickwheels were not flat. There were actually hollow at the bottom whereby when you try to click the buttons, the wheel would sink it and make those "click clack" sound before you actually click the buttons. 3 defective nanos in a row ...and i have also read about those poor QC on the casing, and also some comments on the click wheel as well.

totally disappointed with the nano's build quality, i really like the fact that they are slim and have 24 hours of batt life but the QC is just too poor.
