Hi, just wanna give a short review for my J5. fitted to a proton savvy with 165/60 R14 tyres. Have used it for approx 1000km so i think this review is pretty preliminary.
Im gonna compare it to the previous tyres, goodyear NCT 5.
1. Price - Well the same goodyear tyre costs RM185/tyre while this J5 costs RM155/tyre. So J5 wins.
2. Noise - The noise is considerably quieter than the outgoing NCT 5. i give high praise for such a silent tyre. Two thumbs up.
3. Ride - For some reason it feels floaty compared to the NCT 5, probably because its softer? Anyway due to it making less noise, i have a tendency to think that its not making enough contact with the road. but that just probably my feeling. Overall, its a pretty comfortable tyre.
3. Dry Handling - comparing it to the NCT 5, there is no major difference to the feeling of handling. But due to its soft sidewall, i can feel that there is a bit of 'depression' on the tyres if there im doing a hard cornering. In all, it does it jobs well.
4. Wet Handing - Now here comes the interesting part. As we are in the raining season, i had many chances to test this tyre in the wet. And it gives be quite a bit of mixed feeling. Seems like this tyres have a tendency to hydroplane if you traverse in mid-depth puddles. Be advised to not drive hard in very wet/torrential rain weather. For normal rain/light rain, i feel that this tyre does its jobs perfectly. Also, grip while cornering in normal/light rain is good. Just remember to not drive/corner fast during hard rain as i think this tyre cant handle it. Comparing to the outgoing NCT 5 i believe that it performs slightly better (as i have a few near tail slides while on the NCT 5).
5. Fuel consumption - Ive read somewhere that it is suppose to have less rolling resistance? Cant really feel it. Anyway from my testing there seems to be no difference in fuel consumption while using this tyre.
In conclusion, i feel that this tyre performs well for its price range. Also kudos as it is available in many sizes so you should have no problem in finding the right tyre for your car. I would say that this is a good budget tyre with good performance and price. Just remember its not a racing tyre, so drive safe.
