Anyone has one or knows where to get in Malaysia?

How do arcade centers get their machines? Surely must have some distributor.

Distributor=PDRM. They confiscate the machines from unlicensed shops and distribute it to licensed shop. LOL.

Wonder how the arcade centers operate .... based on lease machines or buy. And what happens to the old machines... hmm.

Interesting to know.

If im not wrong.. They would normally purchase the machines.... never heard of leasing. Old machines.. are normally pushed to other outlets..
TKA (Msia/Singapore) and Cosmic(Penang) are rather huge here.

You can visit www.tkaworld.com , they sell arcade machines n cabinets.

those old arcade machine can only play 1 game. most people go for cabinet with MAME. http://www.x-arcade.com/htm/cabinetimages.shtml#images

basic setup cost around 3k, in USD. that's why a lot of people built their own.

OH ... forgot to give the website for COSMIC. Here u go www.cosmic.com.my They use to put the prices on their website. For a PCB board of old games, its around RM1k. Cabinet is around Rm4-5k , new games can go up to RM7-14k.

Yea its not pratical to buy a single game machine. Unless u r the arcade owner. Maintenance of the machine also will kill.

What kind of maintenance is there? Isn't it the same as home consoles?

I see. I thought the stick and buttons are stronger than the home consoles. So many people whack the machines, but can tahan, compared to home versions.

As for screen and sound, not sure what kind.

Will be cool to have one.

hmm...this is something i am interested in also...

If you guys are interested....i heard abt recond machines complete sets, but without games.

There are ppl doing this recond business in town...

I was thinking of buying the cabinet and then from there figure out how to install a working mame system into it....

They say u can get a used good cabinet complete with A/V, TV and controls and all minus games for less then 2 k

Games range from few hundred onwards.....phew depending on how new and popular it is...

its illegal if u have an activated coin slot on ur cabinet. Gambling machine is a different thing all together.

There is a device to hook up your PS2/xbox into the arcade cabinet... Will post the link when i find it.

If you are into fighting games, the next best thing would be to get a couple of good joysticks. The Hori Real Arcade Pro uses components from the actual arcade machines. Cost about RM400 each.

Wrong, only the stick is arcade component, the buttons are Hori's. If you want real arcade component then you can choose between Madcatz SF4 TE stick or wait for HRAP SE, nearing RM1000

True, buttons are Hori. But seriously, I love fighting games, and they're fine to use. I'll only swap them out when they stop working. To me, not worth the extra cost of the SE. Of course, if you have the money to burn, then by all means. Gunning for a couple of Madcatz TE's myself.

That being said, I still believe that for anyone who loves fighting games, a couple of good joysticks does a lot to bring the arcade experience home, at a fraction of the cost of getting an actual arcade cabinet.

icon_question.gif is xpensive arcade sticks more accurate than the cheap ones and better durability for bashing?

Yup the joysticks I use are very accurate, I manage to do whatever I need to. Not much of a basher, I tend to tap the buttons, but some of my family are, no probs so far. The joysticks are very solid, and can take a bit of bashing. Definitely worth the investment, if you're into fighting games.

Just in case you're wondering, I'm using two Hori Real Arcade Pros, for the PS2, and I also use it on the Wii using a Gamecube converter. Currently eyeing either a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 (should be similar to mine) or the Madcatz Tournament Edition for PS3 woot!

Added on August 13, 2009, 7:48 pmMaybe this is an alternative solution. I wish I had the time to do it though.
