Hey smile.gif I'm an SPM-leaver and i really don't know which is best.

Between IPTA (UPA? ) and IPTS, which is better? Right now and in the long run. sad.gif

For instance, IPTS like Taylor's have really nice facilities and they help you after you graduate. But IPTA is by the government, so it must have some benefits in the long run for us too right? When we get work later?

But why does lots of people apply to, and hope for IPTS? unsure.gif
My friend said that it's because they could choose what course they wanted, eventhough it's so expensive. With IPTA, you've got to apply, and you don't know what you'll get, yet it's affordable.

What're some of the pros and cons of IPTA and IPTS?

IPTA makes it mandatory for people to participate in lots of ridiculous co-curriculum activities in order for them to stay in hostel. Those activities, in my opinion, are childish, immature, bring no benefits (how is sending in 5 bottle water in exchange of 2 merit marks beneficial or in any way helpful?), waste of time and energy, disallow students to focus on what is necessary (if at moderate amount, yes, but the amount of activities they organise are in my opinion preposterous).

And the kem siswa by USM? Bring people in forest and let them walk the path alone in complete darkness at midnight while faci are hiding in the trees preparing to scare people? Is this suitable at university level?

I can list out more, but I guess I better not.

Plus, the system in IPTA is questionable. I've got lots of friends in IPTA and from what I heard, I am glad I rejected IPTA at first and went for IPTS.

IPTS could be good but it depends on which university you go. University reputation and quality play a huge role in determining which university to go. Choose wisely.

Academic wise I don't think IPTA and IPTS vary much. It's how they run and organise the things that are the determining factors.

I would insist that when you go to university, it is best you are involved in co-curriculum activities, try to get involved in an organisation and be a committee to gain leadership experience/skills. But not in IPTA, the way they implement things in my opinion is not at all helpful and I don't see how you can nurture mature students/skillful graduates by the means they use.

Opinions above are only my opinions. If you do not like those co-curriculum activities like me, then you won't like IPTA. If you do, then it should be a great choice.

ipta is a lot cheaper than ipts, if u have financial constraint, ipta is the best for u. again, it depends on what u want. for me, i still believe ipta is the best. life is great, u get to mix around and more importantly u get to move out from your comfort zone. in terms of getting jobs, u dont have to worry, if u're good u dont have to worry whether u're from ipta or ipts.

Personally, I don't see myself going to IPTA anytime soon... I don't fancy doing Asasi and don't think I'll be heading back to school for STPM. A lot of ppl told me IPTA's are a shadow of their former selves, made me hv some doubts liao.
It also depends on what Pre-U you have in mind right now, and your long-term goals. I wonder, how severe are your financial constraints? There are tuition fee waivers and loans also besides scholarships.

IPTA is a waste of time for certain majors. I personally think IPTA is best for postgraduate, not undergraduate.

In IPTA, you will still be behaving like a secondary school students. Go to class, participate in co-curricular activities and organize carnivals...bla bla bla. I chosen IPTS right after SPM to avoid all these bull shit. I study, and participate in real business events, not participating in bullshits which is wasting my time.

If you are looking forward to know the real world, IPTS is better. But one thing, IPTA do provide good research facilities, so if you are taking postgraduate course, IPTA could do well. They have more budget to get the equipment you need, and also connection with overseas researchers.

Some people here have absolutely no idea about life in IPTA, but then proceeds to teach others about it as if they went through one.

I'm current IPTA postgraduate student. Wanna say about experience in IPTA? I have way more experience since I went thru both IPTS and IPTA.

Went to IPTS for degree, got first class and award for my project. And then IPTA offered scholarship to do postgraduate and also work there. So now I am getting paid to study.
