Need advice from all the Mac Gurus here~!

I am thinking about getting a Macbook 1.83Ghz this month.

But PCfair is just 2 months away, they might have promo for it.A source told me that quad core might also be releasing by the end of this year.

Vista will be launched at the first quarter of 2007, Apple might be doing something about it in order to keep their competitiveness in the market as well.

Though all are just speculations, I do not wish to miss out better promos for this product.

Kindly advice on when is best to buy and state your reasons. Thank you notworthy.gif

if there's no rush, then i'd say wait a while.

after all, the price shouldn't be going up.

D'uh y'think?

Even the noobiest of noobs would be able to figure out that

1. Waiting, when not in a rush, is a good idea.

2. Prices for computers do not, as a rule, appreciate.

What the guy quite obviously wants to know is if there is something unmissable just around the corner. Some of it is pretty obvious: There is usually some kind of "bundle" during each PC Fair. I've yet to see one that is really worth waiting for though. At the moment the local Mac dealerships are running a "Free Office Student/Teacher edition" with MacBook purchase. This is quite nice (worth about RM3xx -street) but hardly something to write home to mom about.

More important is perhaps the impending Merom update of the PowerBook line which should be just around the corner. This "should" be just a incremental upgrade. The "real" upgrade (with hopefully an ultralight MacBookPro) is not expected this quarter. I'd guess at the Jan-March 07 timeframe although only Jobs knows for sure... cool.gif

Yeah, from what I've been reading.

The hype of C2D are people aiming to buy the MacBook Pro version and not so much of the MacBook having C2D.

The speculation is also that because MB was released much later than MBP, Apple wouldn't be upgrading the MB in this same year. But it's Apple so who knows what they can be thinking. LOL!

I'm making arrangements of getting a sw33t MacBook probably by next week if all goes well. thumbup.gif

p/s: There's more than just free student/teacher office edition promos on. If you've read InTech, you'd know. wink.gif

But rule of thumb for any computer buyer, once you buy it, don't look back. tongue.gif

yeah... at least wait for leopard to come out first if your are not in a hurry. Check apple website to see the new cool features in leopard version.

But I'll bet the MacBook would be slightly more expensive with the quad version.

I've done some research this morning, and found out that "merom" mobo which houses C2D proc is expected to be out latest by xmas and apple might be launching it on the day after thanksgiving.

Most likely that MacbookPro will be upgraded to C2D. The interesting question now is whether they gonna do the same for Macbook as well. But it seems that there is a possibility of that happening.

Quad-core "Kentsfield" is currently on track for it's Mid-November launching. Read about it http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/10/11/intel_kentsfield/

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Kentsfield a DESKTOP processor?

So how is it supposed to fit into a notebook; Apple or otherwise?

He adviced me to get a Macbook during PCfair.

Well, if you've noticed the trend of Apple during PCFair.. you get rebates.. or extra stuff paying the same price..

The best rebate is RM500 for a MacBook black or you pay same price and they throw in certain goodies like a bag and a keyboard protector..

Nothing to shout to mom about.. smile.gif

In the last PC Fair they offered a "rebate" but it was not a cash rebate. Rather, you had to purchase Apple accessories with the rebate offered. I guess it was better than offering fixed freebies. At least you could choose your stuff.

But....

This hardly compares with offers that we see only too often in the US Apple Store. I understand we are NOT in the USA but that forms the basis of my gripe that the "offers" are never something to get too excited about.

Still... It's better than nothing.

I'm sorry, I'm not in the position to give u names as per your request. If you wanna know, give them a call. I was only told of such and such and i know that he's a reliable source.

Maybe they are ready to take orders for Macbookpro Merom now. The product might not be here yet.

Just to be clear. The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro doesn't exist yet, so please don't be fooled. Until its on Apple.com, no one actually is allowed to "sell" it.

I'd go for the RAM. Why? Because:

1. Office 2004 is not a Universal app. Whilst it runs very well on Rosetta, I'll save my purchase for the upcoming Universal version.

2. This being Malaysia; we offset the cost of hardware by inexpensive software of dubious legality. While we have been told this is not a "victimless crime" by Bill Gates, its just so easily available we often just can't help ourselves....

3. You can never have too much RAM.

If it's Apple you're after, check these two sites for latest news. They're quite accurate.

www.appleinsider.com
www.macrumors.com

Jobs is scheduled to keynote at Macworld 2007 on Jan 8-12. So new Macs could be announced then.

Expect a 'real' graphics card on the MacBook. And it should be Core Duo 2 across the range. I believe the MacPro will receive an update as well. Prolly no more Xeon processor?

If u're don't really need it now or anytime soon, as in u just want a MacBook, then u should wait till January. Leopard should be released then or maybe we'll see an upgrade or price drop. The best time to get an Apple is usually right after an upgrade as they won't do it for another 6 month or so. If u know something good is coming up like C2D or Leopard, best if u wait.

for me, it really depends on you. Do REALLY REALLY need the macbook/macbook pro NOW OR can you wait. If you can, by all means do. Me? I need a macbook now coz my wife just inherited my iBook and my Compaq is doing a no-display-when-powered-on kinda thing.

Don't care much about C2D coz the most probably you can get is around 8-10% more than what you have now on Core Duo. I'm really waiting for the TRUE 64 bit chip, which should be out sometime spring 07.
