Is this safe? I read a reddit post regarding not getting powerbanks with Qualcom quickcharge 3.0.. I did read in the same thread that it's more important to be concerned about the cable that you are using with such devices rather than the device itself..

Any experts here can shed some light ?

IMO shouldve gotten the Aukey model PB-Y3 that has USB-C output of 5V 3A, the same output as official Switch car charger thats able to charge the Switch modestly even while playing BOTW. Dont get the Aukey PB-T11, it has USB-C alright but only for the purpose of charging the power bank (input only). Qualcomm QC 3.0 output is useless for non-compatible devices as it'd revert back to standard fast charge of USB-A for mobile devices which is 5V 2.4A. Not to say it cant charge the Switch but maybe ever so slowly.

Edited: Bolded due to wrong model mentioned. Not the Lightning version of PB-T11

Is 40% even enough though? I was using the Hori one with 35% and it still strains the eye. Ended up going with the 99% from Cyber.

Depends on individual i guess. Too much blue light filtering and the screen gets too yellowish which is not something Id personally like. Furthermore there are not many options out there, locally even difficult to find one. laugh.gif

Anyway I was just looking for a thick tempered glass for my Switch, and the blue light filter is an added bonus.

Just to share, this wouldn't be approved in flights because the capacity is above the limit.

No such restrictions on local airlines as far as i know of except that you are not allowed to put it inside your checked baggage.

This seems works well without USB PD

Just find any power bank that has the USB C output of 15W (Switch was demonstrated to run less than 15W while playing BOTW on handheld mode) then you're definitely good to go for playing BOTW and charging the Switch at the same time. Going for the PD route is definitely better in terms of matching with what the official AC adapter can give. In other words you're able to play and charge a whole lot faster. Way faster.

But good luck in finding that Aukey model in Malaysia. There's another 30000mAh Aukey model that is widely available in My but sadly that's not the same model as what has been tested in your embedded Youtube video. I've seen some buying the wrong model just for the capacity or mistakenly assume its the same, giving less attention to what the bank can give us. sweat.gif

Two piece of the three-piece puzzle completed. Benson Leung approved USB-C cable and USB-PD charger, to charge the last remaining piece of device left missing in this picture: the powerbank. Picking up that powerbank tonight. That Aukey 30000mAh will be replaced, has been the workhorse charging all the portable devices carried out all this while, will continue to do so unless I need USD-PD.

Nice! Mind telling what powerbank are you getting? biggrin.gif

Guys i cant stand the stupidity of an unprofessional seller, TRUEGAMERS.

1. They messed up the 11 street webpage and cause my 2k credit has logged and need to wait 14 days to refund.
2. Promised will give a screen proctector FOC as a token due to the issue happened in 11 street, however i only receive the bundle but no SP.
3. send several message in whatsapp but no one is follow up, no apologize as well.

I rather buy from IMPULSE instead of TRUEGAMERS, i ordered something from IMPULSE and i get reply rapidly and receive my item in the same day.

TRUEGAMERS SUCKS!

Oh ya, talking about warranty, i did not receive any receipt from TRUEGAMERS. Is my warranty still claimable?
*
Just leave bad rating to them on 11street. Insist them on the receipt if you buy directly from them. If they dont wanna give, then for warranty purposes, you can just use your 11street online receipt.

and finally got my Anker PowerPort+5 with USB PD charging. Took a good 5 days delivered by Citylink, shipped from HKG. 2 cables by different brands, according to their spec sheets, are able to carry 3A of I. Just in case one of em decides to fark up.

And now, my charging results. Bear in mind, these are totally unscientific, it's based on how fast I can charge the Switch via the USB-C PD port compared to charging it via the USB-A port delivering a 5V 2.4A charge.

Here are the ingredients:

user posted image

The Xiaomi ZMI QB820 powerbank, the Nexus 6P, the USB-C to USB-C Apple cable approved by Benson Leung and Nathan K (model number MLL82AM/A (A1739), and the Switch itself.

What I did was discharge the Switch's internal battery, by connecting it to the Nexus 6P. The Switch now acts as a battery for the Nexus, with this notification coming up on the Nexus 6P.

user posted image

The Switch was fresh out of the dock, at 100%. Drained its battery to 90%, but as I unplugged the Nexus 6P away from the Switch, the percentage drops to 89%, so I took it as 11% for the calculation later.

I then ran this scene in Zelda BOTW, with grass billowing in the wind, and Link's constantly beeping health warning and ambient music in the background. The display was set at maximum brightness and audio cranked up to maximum volume as well.

user posted image

The Switch is then plugged into the USB-C PD port on the ZMI QB820 powerbank, and I started the timer on the Nexus 6P to measure the time it takes for the the powerbank to charge the Switch in this condition (max brightness, max volume, graphics intensive scene in Zelda BOTW with constant health warning beeping and ambient background music) to charge to 100% back again. It completed the full charge at 22 minutes 43 seconds. That's roughly 1% every 2 minutes.

From the article posted during the early days of Switch release and powerbank tests done with USB-A ports on regular powerbanks, it was stated that standard 5V 3A powerbank used in this article by ArsTechnica only able to trickle-charge 1% every 6 minutes under unknown play condition (volume and/or brightness at what level, playing what game, and at which section of that game in?). This already beats expectation, but I had to do my own digging to be sure, so I tested it again, draining it again to 89% (for parity), and this time, charging it via the the QB820's 5V 2.4A USB-A port. After the same time (22 minutes 43 seconds) have elapse, it barely able to charge the Switch up to 91% from its previous 89%, a.k.a 2% within that span of 22 minutes.

Charging the Switch via third party USB-PD device has one quirk. You NEED to turn off your Switch, plug in your USB-C cable to the Switch, turn on your powerbank/external wall charger, before the Switch can negotiate a higher charging draw from the device that is charging it. I had previously plugged the Switch to the QB820 powerbank and the Tronsmart U5P USB-PD wall charger, and I did not get any "charging notification" at all and the Switch eventually slowly drains. I suspect the Switch did not recognise the USB-PD device that is attempting to charge it, and as such, only releases the safest charging profile available (I reckon it's 5V 0.9A charge profile, the default USB3.0 charge via PC USB port), which is too low to be recognised as a charge or fail to charge completely. Remember, reboot your Switch, plug in your third party USB-PD charger/powerbank.

These are the chain of devices that I currently have to make my Switch-playing time uninterruptible. Or, you can just carry the official Nintendo AC adapter with you and be done with. tongue.gif

The QB820, despite it carrying the Xiaomi's name associating itself mostly with being "affordable or cheap", feels the opposite of that. The outer shell is cold to the touch, confirming its metal escapsulating outer shell construction. Has 4 dots on the side to denote charge level left. And with the USB-PD Tronsmart U5P wall charger, I'm charging it rapidly as well. 20,000mAh in the size of a Nexus 6P. The only way this powerbank can be any more perfect is with more charge capacity. The powerbank itself doubles as a USB Hub when connected via USB-C, I don't know what other powerbank with USB-PD capable of charging a low power laptop that can do that!

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any blown Switches or any bodily harm that happens should you choose to emulate my setup here. I wish someone more knowledgable than me like Benson Leung or Nathan K can verify this setup as safe to use.

I believe the Anker PowerPort+ 5 you're using has better output than Anker themselves advertise them to be.

On the back of it, it states 15V 2A, whereas testing done by Nathan K and other sites show that it actually produce an output of 15V 3A but still it doesnt justify how your Tronsmart couldnt charge the Switch though.

For me, I'd avoid the Tronsmart. I found no extensive tests done on the U5P (hence cannot really judge it) but if past histories were to be considered, their chargers/ hubs were mostly non-compliance, some even considered as dangerous for usage. Not to say Anker always produce the best things, but the PowerPort+ 5 is really a God-sent!

Not promoting the seller (you can try finding the same model outside) but if you dont wanna think too much about this cable, PD things, this cable over here ought to do it all.

Pros:
+ Benson-approved
+ USB-IF certified
+ Capable of USB PD charging
+ USB 3.1 speed (Apple C-C is good as a charging cable however transfer speed is limited to USB 2.0 spec which is slow considering its price; not good for transferring stuff)

Cons
- Short @ 1M length

Got the numbers I need to justify why I'm saying that the QB820 is the best option for me, for powering up the Switch on the go.

The condition:

Zelda BOTW, max brightness, max volume, WiFi on.

The figures:

Yup, the justifications were indeed correct. The best combo you can have now for charging at home and on the outdoors are the official Nintendo AC charger, the Anker PowerPort+ 5 and the Xiaomi QB820. Numbers don't lie.

Also from those figures, QuickCharge or any other formats of fast-charging other than USB-PD does not charge the Switch any faster than your standard USB-A charger.

Fantastic review bro. thumbsup.gif

Wish could get one of those USB-C voltage and amperage meter myself. But your test has saved me some of my molah. tongue.gif Anyway I believe the Anker PowerPort+ has the capability to charge the Switch as good as its official charger (judging on how good it performs on charging your QB820), maybe the Switch itself doesn't dare asking for more current out of any 3rd party charger but hopefully that would change over time by means of firmware update etc.

Anyway, some of my friends did ask me why the hassles for all of these kind of setup instead of just buying and using another Nintendo charger?
For me these are the best setup if you have the Switch, other gadgets and/or mobile devices that you usually bring along on the go. All you need actually are the Anker PowerPort+ 5 charging hub (Nathan K approves it as an excellent multi-device charger), the ZMI QB820 (just in case there's no plug nearby) and a good USB-C cable for the Switch. My office has the US-typed socket only hence my decision to go for the Anker since Nintendo's decision in selling the charger based on in which region you are in. I dont like the idea of having to bring 2 Nintendo chargers which are bulky and having their cables undetachable make it even worse; (one UK plug charger, the other for the US, and having to have other chargers for my other devices as well.) These 3 items are a must if you have to travel a lot.
