Anyone here using Nikon 300mm F4?how the performance for sports photography like football.
*
Old one or the new PF ED VR lens?

I've only used the AF-S version of the old lens and depending on the body you're going to use, focusing will not be so fast and it will hunt especially in low light.

But picture quality is top notch.

I would try to avoid Sigma lenses in general because of back focus issues even in their ART series.

Owned the Sigma 17-50 2.8 when I was still using my D90. Yes, for the first roughly 1 year of usage, it does the job well.
After that where problem arises. I used that lens as my main for wedding. Backfocus issues even after sending it back to shop for recalibration.

You can get a used one roughly under 1K
*
Actually with newer bodies, back focusing should not be a problem anymore right? ART series would have USB input or DIfY calibration with the optional USB dock.

Hi guys, I need some recommendations for a decent tripod. For starters, my budget is around RM500-700 (with or w/o ballhead). As for my requirements, it has to be stable, sturdy and can at least support the weight of my D750 with 70-200 lens for studio/outdoor works. Carbon fiber/aluminium options are welcomed.
*
How tall are you? For RM 700 will only get you CF type tripod, I believe. Reasonably good one would be 1k. Ballhead would be additional. Maybe have to sacrifice and compromise with aluminium instead.

Just wondering if anyone here owns a 35mm 1.8g lens and occasionally use it for portrait (head shot,head/shoulder shot),did a lot of searching, reading and watching about 35mm and 50mm the past few days, the feature of this lens has everything I want - street, landscape,go to,the dealbreaker is the portrait,i read if use this lens to take portrait the nose area would have distortion,I would appreciate if anyone have experience with this lens give your thoughts. Thanks for the macro lens pictures and videos sample in previous post.
*
Depends on what type of portraiture you want to take with the 35mm. Seldom hear people do closeups with the 35mm. The 35mm would be more suited for environmental type portraiture.

Hi, I owned a D700 and considering to buy another body so that I don't have to keep on changing lens.

I'm thinking of either getting D500 or D810.  Any suggestions? rclxub.gif

(Note:  I know D500 has crop factor and D810 is a full frame.  The price differentials.  Some have suggested to get D810 while use my existing D700 as 2nd body.)
*
Hmmm... I tried to keep my D700 as a spare to my D800 but somehow 95% of the time I end up using D800. So I sold my beloved D700 as it was underutilised.

Hi... Anyone bought Nikon 24-70 F/2.8E ED VR? any review?
*
I would want to upgrade to the VR if I get to sell off my 24-70mm f/2.8 non VR.

Why do you need to buy a plug converter when you can just replace the cable with a suitable plug head?

Hi, i have only 1 lens 35mm 1.8 for my d5100, kit lens already spoiled. Do you guys suggest me to go for a tokina 11-16 or nikon 10-24. I mostly shoot on travel photo and scenery (mountains most of the time). Dont want something that is so heavy that it break my neck
*
If strictly for landscapes, the Nikon colours are better. If looking at the focal length, 10mm on the Nikon is wider than the Tokina. How important this is, depends on how you take your pics.

If you're gonna use it also for general use or when lighting is not so optimal and hand held, the wide f/2.8 aperture on the Tokina is useful.

So seeing that you're gonna use only 1 lens which means you would also occasionally use it for other stuff, the Tokina is a better bet.

QUOTE(shioks @ Apr 15 2016, 09:09 AM)
Nikon 12-24 lens would requires a new set of filters for landscape.
*
Does not mean that getting a Nikon would require a new set of filters. sweat.gif

If you're using a Tokina and need ND or CP filters, you still need to buy the same 77mm set as you would if you had gotten the Tokina.

Any idea when the D5 and D500 going to be available? Price?

QUOTE(wkwong91 @ Apr 15 2016, 03:44 PM)
I think the one he is mentioned 10-24 is different with 12-24. FYI, 10-24 is for DX and 12-24 is FX. iinm.
Also depend on ur budget bro to get which lens u want.  laugh.gif
*
I'm confused now... rclxub.gif

Both 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 and 12-24mm f/4 from Nikon are DX lenses.

14-24mm f/2.8 Nikon is FX.

Here's a quick output between D750 & D500, non scientific comparison, to give you an idea how does the D500 low light performance fare comparing to the FX model at the same price range.
These two are original SOOC, Large Jpeg Fine files unaltered.
Other settings will be as following,
Picture control: STD - 0
In camera NR - All OFF
ADL - Off
WB - Default Auto (Please note that, D500 has a difference WB algo, seems to be more neutral while D750 slightly warmer.)
Exposure: f/8, 1/50s, ISO 6400, AF-S 50mm f/1.8G
D500: (13MB)

D750: (19MB)

FInally got my hands on the Tokina 11-16mm DX II biggrin.gif hope to be able to do some nice UWA shots of my own car dy biggrin.gif
*
Congrats. Don't know if you found out already but shooting the external of a car on ultra wide angle really distorts the shape of the car. I prefer to shoot slightly telle. Internal for ultra wide angle is fine though.

VR version price almost double.... and its build of plastic... read some reviews also said not as good as the old G version.

already pretty happy with this lense.. although need faster shutter to compensate with VR (hence thinking of D3s or D800)  brows.gif

still researching though
*
It's one of my favourite all rounder lens. Thinking of trading in and replacing it with the newer VR since it's gonna cost a bit to repair the the stiff zoom ring problem on my 24-70mm f/2.8.

Anyway, please note that shooting on a high megapixel camera body like the D800 takes a lot of planning and care. What used to be fine on the D90 in terms of shutter speed etc may not be fine on the D800 because the higher density sensor demands more stringent shooting methods. Some people are ok with the transition but people like me with shaky hands not ok. shakehead.gif So you would probably need higher shutter speed than you're already used to on a body like the D90.

Bought Tokina 11-20, any recommended 82mm Filter?
*
What type of filter? Just UV filter? 82mm is gonna be expensive.

QUOTE(leongkokloon @ May 17 2016, 07:28 PM)
hey thanks for heads up... i might be going to D3s... but considering D800... which shall i go???? hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
That's a tough one that only you would be able to answer...

Sports - D3s
Everything else - D800

Anyway, it's not to say that it's a no no going to the D800. There is a learning curve. Just that you need to be aware and work around it.

Thinking of a polariser and ND.
*
CPL at extreme wide angles will be tricky as the polarising effect would not be equal throughout the whole frame.

Just ND or the graduated ND type? If the latter, you would have to look at large square type graduated ND filters that would need a special square filter holder.

Anyway, what would be your budget? Like I mentioned, 82mm will be expensive. If they sky is the limit, look at B+W. Hoya / Kenko is mid range and doable.

QUOTE(Lego Warfare @ May 18 2016, 12:14 AM)
Nikon's own CPL is quite good. I'm using it on my Canon LOL

Yeah, Nikon's CPL is very good.

after that when i take to last year trip baru notice the focus alignment off then sent to SC (and do annual cleaning) before they move to another place.

How much did Yannick charge for cleaning?

What about the focus alignment at SC? FOC?
