Usually the box or ssd label have firmware version info. You can also use crystal diskinfo to get the firmware version.

You can download new firmware from goplextor.com. The update procedure is simple, and is normally non-destructive. For safety's sake, just do a data backup first. Create a usb bootable with the iso via rufus/pendrivelinux tool and use it to boot and apply the update.

The need to update the firmware depends on issues on the current firmware. it's optional if your drive works well.

Hi, I noticed that there are two versions of the firmware, one is in .ISO format which I presume would need to create a bootable USB drive like you mentioned above. How about the other in .exe format? I can just copy it to the desktop, click it and let it run right?

My SSD is Plextor M6S, currently still running at stock firmware, I think it's not the latest 1.07.

Hi,

i would like to get some opinion for SSD selection.
Between these 3 models, which one would you recommend?

1. Lite-on S900 128GB (read: 530 MB/s; write 290 MB/s)
2. Kingston SSDNOW V300 120GB (read: 450 MB/s; write: 450 MB/s)
3. ADATA Premier Pro SP900 128GB (read: 550 MB/s; write: 530 MB/s)

Lite-on is the newest (2015) compare to the other 2. Adata SP900 having good read and write to but quite old model (2013) i think.

Hands down the Liteon S900.

imo basically they are the same, however i never tried the windows executable version before (i have older models, and they were all in iso formats). for firmware updates, i still think it's safer to use bootable usb stick instead of windows executable.

edit: one more thing, although it has stated that they are non-destructive, it's a good practice to back your full data up first. it maybe seem paranoid, and although i haven't had any bad experience with brands like plextor, crucial and samsung in this regard, it's better safe than sorry.

Lol, if not exceeding RM700 and for a 7mm 2.5" SATA SSD, can I say Samsung 850 EVO is one of the best I can buy?
