Did you guys buy the SSD based on the chip inside or just buy SSD based on brands? Once upon a time, I chose SSD based on the chip but I don't know how relevant that for today's.

If there is no reason, you don't need to update BIOS or firmware. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I know this against my motto (see my sig) but this is not about me but you.

QUOTE(lavenzo @ Aug 27 2015, 02:40 PM) hi..i not really good at this but i would like to know if my current setup is capable for 2 ssd at raid 0. That's about right. The two SSDs connected to the first two Intel SATA 3 ports.i have asrock z77 extreme 4 and 1 wd black 1x samsung f1. so if i were to get 2 ssd for raid 0 then i need til plug that 2 ssd under Intel controller SATA 3 port and the remaining for my hdds right? now do i have to update any bios or any apps first before i install this SSD? because i have not touch anything (bios update/configuration) in my mobo even since i bought the system abt 2+ years ago. can i just plug and configure raid 0 then install windows, that's it? Updating BIOS & firmware not always necessary. They should be plug-n-play. You can configure RAID0 in BIOS & proceed installing Windows on it. Before you can install windows, copy Intel RST drivers folder (extracted) to the USB thumb drive. This is because when installing windows, you will need to load the Intel RST drivers for the installer to detect the SSD RAID0. This post has been edited by kizwan: Aug 27 2015, 09:16 PM |

QUOTE(XiuKeong @ Aug 28 2015, 02:55 PM) I have a question. Is Liteon SSD OEM performance good? I've googled few user reviews and most of them said it's worth getting it. If I'm not mistaken it have Marvell controller. So it should be good. No comment on the NAND flash though. Is this S900?» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by kizwan: Aug 28 2015, 03:56 PM |

QUOTE(ashraf095 @ Sep 27 2015, 12:03 PM) Is it worth to upgrade to ssd for intel celeron laptop? Anyone here have experience? I'm helping my friend to upgrade her laptop. Depends on her usage. The benefit you can get from SSD is faster boot time & faster applications loading time. Ask her whether she want these benefit for a couple hundreds ringgit? |

QUOTE(stella_purple @ Nov 22 2015, 07:04 PM) hey guys did u disable hibernation/fast startup in windows 10? i heard it can cause unnecessary write to the ssd. I disabled them but the reason was not because to prevent unnecessary write. I disabled because with my SSDs in RAID0, windows already boot fast enough & I prefer fresh start when booting my computer. I also don't use hibernate. |

QUOTE(swgiant @ Nov 24 2015, 12:59 AM) I bought a Samsung 850pro 500g for my company 4yrs old of Acer AIO. End up Samsung magician 4.9 warned me such SSD only connected to sata2, really a waste! Well, what to do if the computer doesn't support Sata 3. Not many 4yrs old portable computer support Sata 3. Lesson learned; always research before buying. |

QUOTE(blek @ Nov 24 2015, 02:20 PM) hornstqvm for the information. He meant the firmware update if available for your brand new SSD. Manufacturer usually advised updating the firmware if only you have problem with current firmware. The SATA to USB or 2.5" SATA external enclosure is for connecting your brand new SSD to your laptop for the firmware update process. So SATA to USB cable is a must for upgrading? I need to update my firmware before install SSD into drive? so we do not seperate partition from the SSD. The whole drive will be use as window system and software. Even if I direct the p2p download location to 2nd drive HDD while the p2p software was install onto SSD, it still damage my SSD? Possible to install and run p2p software from the 2nd drive HDD? SSD will be install into laptop. 2nd SSD will not be cost effective. There are two free tools that I like to use which are:- - Minitool Partition Wizard - for partitioning/formatting the drive - Macrium Reflect - for cloning & creating image This post has been edited by kizwan: Nov 24 2015, 03:04 PM |

QUOTE(horns @ Nov 24 2015, 05:31 PM) yes, you're right. the steps were meant for reference only. skip anything that is not applicable. it's just personal preference to choose whether you wanna update the firmware or not. the safer way is of course if you don't have issues, don't create issues. (if it's not broken, don't fix it) The steps you outlined are spot on regardless. |

QUOTE(Oyaji @ Nov 26 2015, 04:19 PM) Hi, 120GB should be enough for the OS & a couple of programs. My laptop only use 60GB including MS office I think but my laptop died already. However, including games, you'll need secondary HDD or go for at least 240GB SSD.Recently my intel 330 died/corrupted after theres an error during windows update. At first it was like it cannot read the drive and later refuse to function at all. Is there any fix to rectify this? So if it really died, I am thinking of getting another ssd for o/s (win8 and soon 10). My question is 120gb still enough or have to get 240gb? Then which brand is better? Currently using asus z77 vlk so will it have any compatibility issues? Thanks in advance P/s: Currently eyeing samsung 650 for 120gb since it is affordable. As for 240gb, not sure. Something reliable for less than rm400 would be great. This post has been edited by kizwan: Nov 27 2015, 12:34 AM |

QUOTE(nuekkacak @ Dec 18 2015, 07:03 AM) QUOTE(NightFelix @ Dec 18 2015, 10:39 AM) Even with SATA 2, you will see a lot of improvement going from HDD to SSD. For boot drive of course.QUOTE(horns @ Dec 20 2015, 03:55 PM) yes. at least to me, i call it best bang for bucks for many reasons. I agree. I also prefer performance too. That's why instead of single SSD, I go for two SSDs for RAID0 setup. however, i do hope all users to do their own research too. like any other review sites, don't just take our words for it. this is because we all have different needs, budgets, and expectations. to me, most mainstream sata ssds are good for common usage, for work, i prefer performance ssds. some others might think otherwise. I got Kingston Hyperx Fury 120GB for my laptop. Even with SATA 2 only, SSD is a loooot faster than HDD. |

QUOTE(horns @ Jan 15 2016, 12:49 PM) not sure. i have found this 'fix': http://superuser.com/questions/887306/ssd-...ys-of-power-off His SSD working again based on his last reply. Sound like his BIOS/motherboard acting up, not the SSD. Disabling IRST in BIOS will make the SSD unbootable (referring to one of his troubleshooting step).edit: mine was like since 2013. no issues so far (m5pro; m5m) |

Look at the changelog. There is possibility the drive (M6S) might freeze/hang under some circumstances. This is what you don't want to hear.

QUOTE(goat69 @ Jan 18 2016, 03:35 PM) Why?QUOTE(ate @ Jan 19 2016, 09:27 AM) Hi guys, i would like to get a reliable ssd storage for 128gb/100k iops , what is the best value for money for this? For storage I do not recommend using SSD. Just go with regular HDD for storage because you can have bigger space. |
