Anyone here given the Samsung 950 Pro a whirl yet?

I'm giving it serious consideration because the Intel 750 series will obviously have to sit in a PCI-E slot, which takes up a considerable amount of space. It would be good know if any users here have any experience with them.

I heard the 950pro also the nand gets pretty hot.  The 750s last time i heard, loading windows is slower than non nvme sata ssd.
These are nvme enterprise ssd right? Macam interested.

Might be an issue because I use it with my M2 mobo slot which means the poor thing is slotted between 2 GTX980TIs

Mine is incoming and stuck in Kastam.  rolleyes.gif

Actually have you considered that the Intel 750 does come in 2.5" form factor also like normal SSDs but just slightly thicker by about 15 mm? They also usually come bundled with U2 Mini SAS to M2 adaptor. Saves you a PCIe slot.

But the Intel is slightly slower than the Samsung 950 Pro though.

I just bought the Samsung 950 Pro in 512mb anyways. Better pricing than the Intel 750.

So the setup is;

Samsung 950 Pro 512gb - Boot
2 x OCZ Agility4 512gb RAID 0 - Speed drive
2x Crucial M500 1tb - Bulk Storage

Now just waiting for the Icydocks to arrive.

Nice.  rclxms.gif You got yours from Ramcity? What mobo are you running it on?

On another note, the RM is now a little stronger than USD and AUD compared to a few weeks ago.  mad.gif

Got it from Kogan.

Running it on an Asrock X99 WS. Just waiting on a Xeon processor and my DDR4 ECC Registered RAM to arrive as well.

Mission critical workstation? Not planning on overclocking?
*
It's just my home PC. I usually build a new PC every 5 years or so, but when I do I aim for absurd overkill to ensure it'll perform for a long time to come.

Not planning on OCing, but unlike what people are led to believe ECC RAM can be overclocked by 15 percent without issue. If you're going higher than that, yes, probably better off with a Core I7 running standard DDR4.

I am impatiently waiting for Samsung 960 Pro / Evo to be available here or at Malaysia and keep getting tempted to buy the Samsung 950 Pro.
*
The 960 Pro is becoming available here in Australia on the 5th. My plan is to retire the 512gb Samsung 950 PRO sitting on the motherboard and chucking in a 960 PRO.

Going for the 2GB model for yourself?

I will be going with Samsung 960 Evo, 512GB would be enough.

I assume you are going for 2TB model instead of 2GB?
*
Not the Pro?

Ya, I'm going for the 2TB model, have it pre-ordered, but it'll arrive while I'm on-site and at work, so it's a cool gift for myself when I get back.
