Judging from past few pages, seems like most ppl are recommending the Liteon S900 256gb? I am actually kinda tempted to try SSD.. Ever since i got my XPS13 with SSD, i felt my desktop is crap

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 5 2015, 11:38 PM) do it. a desktop rig is not a crap if its specs are much better than xps 13. take away that obvious hdd bottleneck and you will fall in love with it again hehe haha its so tempting.. any recommendation? mostly gaming on desktop only.. my rig builder suggest samsung and intel SSDs. checked my XPS13, it is using Samsung PM851 m.2 This post has been edited by - JaY -: Aug 6 2015, 04:04 AM |

Hi, planning to get the 850 EVO 120GB. Saw the product has 3 types of form factor? is there price difference? which 1 is the best(if there's any diff)? Using a desktop btw.

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 20 2015, 03:11 PM) usually they are the same in performance. the main thing to check is compatible form factors that fit your system. in general 2.5" should be the most compatible and cheaper option. i see, based on what i see for my mobo, http://www.msi.com/product/mb/B75MA-P45.html#hero-overview. i only have 1 sata 3 port, which i believe my current WD Blue HDD is using. So i believe I would need to change the SSD to utilize the SATA3 port and swap the HDD to Sata2 port? Is it that simple? I plan to install fresh W10 on the new SSD and start installing my apps/games onto the SSD and the remaining uses the HDD. Correct me if im wrong |

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 20 2015, 05:31 PM) yes you should swap unless you wanna make the ssd to run at sata2 speed. you might also wanna check if the bios > sata mode is set to ahci. QUOTE(antaras @ Aug 21 2015, 11:31 AM) Yes, that is what I did previously. Anyway, as others mentioned make sure ur SSD is fed with the sata 3 port. Then in the bios setting, the SSD as the boot drive and also ahci. ok seems like my understanding is not so bad afterall is this normal for my Dell XPS13 PM851 M.2 SSD? |

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 21 2015, 01:31 PM) No problem. A question: for your usage (i assume it's a typical common usage based on the laptop model), do you feel anything slowing down due to low write speed? hmm.. very subjective question. does slight stutter considered? I can't really differentiate the whether its more of the proc or the ssd for this. Happens sometimes, not all the time. If were to say proc, i am using the high end xps which is i7, if u say ssd, well. its a SSD. |

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 21 2015, 05:25 PM) yes it's subjective. i have xps 15 with i7 4702hq running 840evo sata and msata. that cpu is the weakest among my computers. i do have similar rare but definite stuttering when using the machine too, and i suspect it's the cpu. there is no such things in other pcs. Maybe is an issue with Dell machines.. |
