I'm 19 years old, 188cm, 56kg. I win! =D

Now, time for me to pore over everything in this thread...this is going to take a while.
*
Yeah you certainly win, lol.

Let me give you a short summary of the entire thread:

1. Eat above your calorie requirements (by finding out Total Daily Energy Expenditure).
2. Compose a very simple diet plan and try it out for one week.
3. Fine tune the plan according to barriers faced for the week, the focus being on simplicity and ease.
4. Disciplined enough to follow through with the plan without fail, everyday.

I've been in your shoes, and quite recently have managed to overcome the eating barrier. Checkout my workout journal for the diet plan.

haha... depends on your personal preference I'd say. I'll say what I always say to clients/friends, if you're 100% determined to go after your goal, and it is of utmost importance to you, taste of a post-workout shake etc, should never be an issue.

That being said, I've taken this shake before a couple years ago, it's perfectly fine and after a while you get used to it anyway. It's all about the end result, not your tastebuds.

I "prescribe" this shake to people who have issues downing 3K+ or 4K calories per day. So, if adding in 1K extra cals with just drinking something is dependant on taste, maybe gaining the weight isn't as important to the individual smile.gif

Sorry if I sound like I'm rambling, basically all comes down to what you want now... and what you want/value most smile.gif

I wouldn't disagree on the motivation requirements. Though I'd still like something that doesn't taste bad. I can see from your recipe that the base would be lots of milk, peanut butter, and oats, which would form the base of the taste. I would presume that to be acceptable-borderline good tasting, around 5.8?

How lot is a lot? Can you tell me? Is 3 packs of Maggi Asam Laksa for late night supper is a lot to you?
*
Seriously? blink.gif

Ok I used to take 2 eggs, 1 can of sardine immersed with olive oil, a glass of milk, 3 cups yoghurt with 1 cup of nuts. And possibly a small portion of weightgainer. Never again!............Totally unsustainable.

There're muscles, water, fats, and bones contributing to your total body weight. So which specific one would you like to increase?

of coz muscle.. but i just only play badminton and drink protein. so what do u think will increase?
*
Nothing's gonna increase much... Perhaps some fat loss and some slight increase in muscle mass. You'd probably get more ripped.

Weight gain, or more specifically, muscle mass gain (we don't want to gain fats here and become an unhealthy fatso do we), would require eating at a calorie surplus and consistent/progressive weight lifting.

Nope, I would eat my daily meals on time in large portions.
To give an example, I could kill 3 Big Macs set for lunch and then continue eating junk food immediately after the meal.
Best part of all, I ain't even close to average weight...  cry.gif

For a quick & easy trial protocol you could try this out:

http://www.charlespoliquin.com/Blog/tabid/...g-plateaus.aspx

For a longer read and a good primer on the subject you could start here:

http://tnation.t-nation.com/free_online_fo...youre_not_doing

I would do things slightly differently though, by drawing upon these ideas. If you're interested I could roughly formulate a protocol here and post it up.

*Do not substitute for professional medical advice.

By the way............. Such a condition is not common. We'd definitely like to see a one-week food log. Track all that you eat, including the portions, and estimated calories. Aim for at least 2700 calories. Use http://nutritiondata.self.com for food calories list. Weigh yourself before and after the one week test period.

If what you say is true, you're one rare specimen.

recommend me a good mass gainer. im 177cm 63 kg. in 2011 im 58kg hahaha

my friend recommend me iron armour hard mass.

he gained 8 kg in 5 weeks with that product.
he said he will sell me RM200 FOR 6.8kg. maybe i will give a try. he ask me to weight in first before try and tell the result to him.

i used to try herbalife before quite expensive but the effect is not that bad, i gained around 2kg in 1 month + extra energy during morning
*
As dessert after dinner..

4 half boiled kampung eggs, approx. 200 calories (or beat into omelette with onions!, approx 300 calories).
1 glass of non-pasteurised fresh milk (Bright Cow's Jerysey Milk), approx. 140 calories
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil, approx 130 calories

How much cals. is that? 570 calories, of real food with each and every ingredient having its own health function. Oh, and zero crap.

yes 1200 kal per serving? did u recommend me that. i think that mass is easy since its is 1 for all. no need to buy other food separately.  rclxub.gif

i use severals product b4 including herbalife. some of them like protein etc etc. i can see some improvement but now i want to try mass/true hass/hard mass
*
Although body systems as you put it differs from individual to individual, I'd rather say you're among the acceptable range than the rather uncommon outlier.

Don't skip your daily breakfast lunch and dinner. And do not fail to add that as supper everyday. Be 99% consistent for at least 3 weeks. I'm sure you'll see changes.

So underweight people should drink mass gainers? If that mass gainers doesn't exist in this world, what would they take? You are giving excuses because you are lazy to make proper changes. What you have in mind is that 'I am an ectomorph, I am an ectomorph' and repeat that each day for few years and suddenly you found out that mass gainers are the answer for your underweight problem.

You are underweight because you under-eat and if you can gain weight by chugging a 1200kcal mass gainers each day, it means that you can also gain the weight by eating a good solid meal. You are just finding excuses and the easiest way and supplements companies are taking advantages on that and to top in more, they put crap in those supplements.

You don't believe me? A forumer here was an ectomorph who weights 43kg and he have what I would say the best body in this forum and he never takes a sip on mass gainers. What's the different between you and him? Refer to top both paragraph.
*
To summarize... Weight gainers are just powderized empty carbohydrates & sugar + whey protein cheap synthetic vitamin powder to make it look healthy + stabilizers + flavouring, including potentially BCAAs and creatine.

Nets you 1,200 cals max (with your own milk included) while being super sweet?

Great way to get comprised gut health and therefore heightened risks for common diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, weak immune system, etc. Screw that.. I'm going for a spaghetti + fried chicken breast in parmesan cheese + generous olive oil poured onto the spaghetti. I don't need to count but I'm sure it's more than 1,000 kcal.

keyword. You need to eat a lot everytime to gain weight/

I have an idea, to start switching the terms used.

In future I'll probably reply, no such thing as eating alot.

Alot / little is relative.

Basically, eating the right for your needs.

This should stop some irrelevant questions.

That's a good idea but a much better idea would be for every hardgainer to actually spend some of his/her precious time to read the stickies which apparently they don't. So, a one liner reply like mine would be relatively good enough compared to the time they spend reading the sticky  tongue.gif
*
Well you're right, haha. Then again, a one liner reply will attract and foster an argumentative stance.

I prefer replies like mine that make people seriously start doubting their own ability to think logically tongue.gif

Nope. Utterly bullshit. Unless you can give us proof that:
1. You've calculated your Daily Calorie Intake correctly.
2. You've consumed adequate food to grow by creating calorie surplus.

yet you still won't grow, I'll trust you. But before that, it's bs.
*
Woah. Good one, haha! After all these years, I think you've finally found the winning copy-paste reply.

It's amazing, really. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(MerryGoRound^2 @ Dec 24 2014, 12:46 AM)
So the first thing I wanna ask is, is it possible to gain muscles without taking protein shakes?
*
Yes, see protein shakes as an easy form of consuming chicken/egg. It's just a supplement.

It's liquid and easier to digest, so you can easily add it on to your diet in case you're lacking in protein. Simple as that, it's not a magic muscle builder nor a weight gainer.

QUOTE(MerryGoRound^2 @ Dec 24 2014, 12:46 AM)
- I know protein shake has got a lot of debate going on, but the general idea is that once you stop working, the fats sink in once you stop working out. So I'd like to know if there's a way to gain muscles without resorting to protein weights because I did indeed gain 2kg when I first took protein shake, and then stopped after awhile. Which brings me to my next question..
*
The main reason why you start gaining fats when you stop working out, is because your food intake (calorie intake) remains the same, but you are not utilizing them (previously through exercise), so your body stores the excess calories as fats. That's how people get fat. Protein powders to not magically cause you to gain fat if you stop working out.

QUOTE(MerryGoRound^2 @ Dec 24 2014, 12:46 AM)
What are good sources of Protein? Usually the good source of protein I know are so damn expensive and I can't be eating protein daily because my financial means don't allow it or that I do not always have protein foods at my home daily. Either that or sometimes I go to places where I can't get protein easily (like dining in a place that does not serve salmon dishes).
*
Eggs and whey protein are among the cheapest if you compare the price vs the protein per gram consumed.

Chicken comes second.

QUOTE(MerryGoRound^2 @ Dec 24 2014, 12:46 AM)
I am a green tea drinker, will that affect weight gains as well?
*
No significant effect.
