Hi, usually I buy travel insurance from MSIG but I have (touch-wood) never claim anything.
I am wondering about one thing now : A few years back, HK was hit by a very bad typhoon. I was there on my returning flight one day after the typhoon.
At the airport, I've seen a lot of passengers whose flight was cancelled the night before and waiting for their next available flight. They had slept in the airport (inside checked area) for one night and still waiting.
My friend was an ex-staff of Malaysia Airlines ground crew and she told me when she worked with MA and there's a cancellation, they will have a bus and bring the passengers to stay at certain hotel for the night. So I wonder why is this not done to the passengers I see in HK?
If this situation happened to us, can we leave the checked-in area and book a room in adjacent hotel, and claim from the travel insurance?
Usually, I will remove the default travel insurance when I buy air ticket. Instead I will buy travel insurance from AXA or MSIG. Cause my friend one complained how difficult it was to claim from Air Asia insurance (AA claimed to be just a middle person between claimer and Takaful and is not responsible to handle her claim). Any risk in my practice of not buying travel insurance through airlines?
Yes, usually they will put in a hotel nearest to the airport if your flight is the following day. It could be because all the hotel are fully booked out since it was a typhoon.
I have always purchase from AXA and they work very diligently and i gotten back my claim within 7 to 10 days after I have submitted my claim.
