Hi, I'm finding some answer about travel insurance and this is the 'newest' thread on it. I am thinking taking travel insurance for my 2 weeks trip but I'm still blurred on few aspect. I had been going through HSBC Travelsafe and MSIG website.

Say if I buy the insurance now for June's trip and the flight was cancelled due to volcanic ashes issue in UK, will I get to claim even though I haven't started on my trip? I'm worried about the volcano eruption cause all my Eurostar ticket and hotels were already paid. Note : I'm planning to buy 2 weeks insurance with spouse.

Is only hospitalisation in overseas will be eligible for claims? How about outpatient treatment for illness like food poisoning etc? How does one claim for the medical treatment? Just like the way we claim in Malaysia - show the hospital our policy cert/card and request letter of guarantee from insurance provider's hotline?

I had bought HSBC Travelsafe before for a short trip but didn't do any claim at that time, so I wonder whether it's better than MSIG or not.Thanks.
