I went to google and found some company offering travel insurance with RM10 stamp duty and some without stamp duty.

Why some need to pay RM10 stamp duty? the travel insurance just cost RM30 only...
Is there difference between them or any hidden cost that i'm not aware of?
*
Long story short, you don’t need to worry about hidden cost etc.

Any medical, personal accident, even your car insurance requires stamp duty of RM10, regardless of how much the insurance cost. Normal for general insurance. The companies that do/don't charge are not cheating you, just the way they do it is different.

I have to ask these because I haven't used any proper travel insurance agency before. I did brief browsing for AXA and AIG. Have you used AIG before?
*
i bought from aig when i went to cambodia. that's cause i felt like for cambodia, i just needed the most basic travel insurance. just to cover medical. those things like lost of document, travel delay doesn't seem quite applicable for such a short trip. aig was the cheapest i could find.

buying online from aig seems reliable. policy received immediately, no issue in payment.

though i have to admit their interface can be more professional looking... biggrin.gif

1) there's a travel insurance thread up there...

2) travel insurance does not exclude existing medical condition.

any idea why travel insurance need stamp duty, i have find a lot no need to pay stamp duty, but Uni Asia TravelStar have to pay RM10 stamp duty  hmm.gif

actually in theory all insurance needs stamp duty. just because it's not explicitly stated, doesn't mean don't have. while i'm not to sure how the insurance companies does it, they can either absorb it or maybe make it into a group policy. then, under a group policy, there's many covered lives, but still consider as 1 policy, hence stamp duty charged once, which is RM10

i learn from google that not all travel insurance cover adventure trip like hiking or skiing

anyone know which travel insurance provide coverage for mountain hiking at near volcano? I can't get those info from ringgitplus or imoney
*
Sample below is from Tune Protect - Travel PA. They only exclude extreme sports and activities, and the below is what they mean.

So based on what i understamd hiking or skiing is NOT excluded as long as it is either open to other people or it is guided by experts. so in your case you don't really have to worry.

Extreme Sports & Activities:
Shall mean any sport or sporting activity that presents a high level of inherent danger (i.e. involves a high level of expertise, exceptional physical exertion, highly specialized gear or stunts) including but not limited to big wave surfing, canoeing down rapids, cliff jumping, horse jumping, ultra marathons and stunt riding. It does not mean usual tourists activities that are accessible to the general public without restriction (other than height or general health
or fitness warnings) and which are provided by a recognized local tour operator but always providing that the Insured Person is acting under the guidance and supervision of qualified guides and/or instructors of the tour operator when carrying out such tourist activities

Hopefully not too late in replying this post.

anyone know about Islamic travel insurance (takaful)?
*
conventional insurance or takaful, all same same. if you insist, you can go for etiqa takaful. the previous travel insurance i bought was from etiqa takaful. convenient and easily bought online.

is it advisable to take airasia insurance? will fly to Australia Sept 2017 but didnt take it yet due to cost. but if it's important will just add on the insurance
*
you can always buy travel insurance after booking the trip. depends on what you believe. some thinks it's not necessary, some believe better to be safe than sorry. what my friend worry about is more of the bigger thing like what if you get sick in those countries and the medical treatment is really expensive, etc...

How about the international insurance provider, I found there are cheaper?

any example you can provide? Else it's very vague.

getting it from Malaysia companies should be easier and cheaper, after all, foreign exchange rate does play a part.

If not mistaken Airasia tune protect medical expenses limit is very low, in the end I chose axa as their limit is 50k or 300k based on the type of plan.
*
actually a lot of people might not have bothered reading the details. myself included. so i decided to read it up.

the airasia tune protect travel insurance, is actually pretty decent for that kind of price. it covers 200k medical expenses, along with other add-on benefits such as trip cancellation, baggage damage/loss, etc.

i actually find axa kinda pricey because somehow ended up have to pay for that RM10 stamp duty.

last round, after my long comparison among few major insurance companies with online travel insurance, i went for tune protect, but not the airasia version. which means i chose tune protect over axa, aig, etiqa. biggrin.gif

Hi,
Most insurance company coverage - If hospitalized, we have to pay first, then claim latter.

Is there any insurance that will pay directly to the hospital? ie we don't need to use our money to pay for the bills.

Thanks
*
No. You know why? Insurance companies need time to investigate the claim. In these situations, either credit card or atm card or pray hard you brought enough cash. Such is life.

Hey guys, will be on a trip to Europe pretty soon. I wanna get a good insurance coverage, dont mind paying premium. So far I've seen Etiqa and RHB, any insurance plan to recommend? So many yet undecided. Help please biggrin.gif?
*
If you want best bang for the buck, you gotta put in some effort or use some comparison website, if we do have it for malaysia travel insurance.

I have done my research. I have narrowed down to survey either etiqa or tune insurance. I use either one depending on destination and number of days.

guys,

i have been comparing insurance for my 2 weeks at Europe.

Seems like ETIQA(RM51.75) is the cheapest..any experience with them before?
*
Buying easy and convenient. Friend bought on my recommendation. Made a claim before for trip cancellation, seems efficient as well from what i heard.

Standard answer, you cannot double claim. You are not to profit from insurance.

anyone bought  travel insurance from grab? the price seems comparable to generali
*
Buying via grab means buying via chubb.

You can just compare if there is any price difference, chubb vs generali vs etiqa for example.

Can give you a feeling of what to have at what price. There are not that different usually. Can always check chubb on their own website

I'm more concerned on which Insurance is easier to contact when there is an issue overseas. Especially hospitalization overseas. Best to be able to chat immediately. Things like delay, luggage, flight all are minor things imo.
*
If that is really your main concern, etiqa is the only choice. Because etiqa can issue GL overseas...

You can check out other companies but i think i am 90% confident i am right.

Is the travel insurance from credit card sufficient for typical travel needs? Or will there be anything not covered that we need to purchase those standalone travel insurance?

Here's the T&Cs:

https://www.ambank.com.my/ambank/Documents/...rancePolicy.pdf

Thanks
*
Take this insurance policy and compare it with the usual travel insurance you bought.

What coverage do you appreciate and want?

95% of the time, the free version cant be compared with the paid version.

But why?
Both Insurance Policy A & B has obligation to pay out in case of something happened..
Unless it implicitly written that you cant claim from other insurance?
*
It depends on what the coverage is.

For example if you buy 2 travel policy, and if you die due to accident while travelling, then yes you will get payout for both policy.

For example if you got admitted to a hospital due to an injury, and let's say the total cost is rm5k, then 1 policy will pay you the 5k.

If you masuk hospital, and the hospital bill is rm300k for example, then if policy A covers rm100k, policy B covers rm200k then you claim from both.

For the case of hospitalisation, it's reimbursed the cost incurred. for the case of death, it says it will pay out the amount stated.
