Even if your motherboard is running DDR2, the graphic card can run using DDR3 or even GDDR5 as long as the motherboard have PCI-E slot. The only thing that can make the card and the board incompatible is the slot itself -- IF the board is using AGP slot.
True, card is card, board is board...My sys running DDR3 and graphic card running DDR1 only....oldies card..
