What's wrong with engine?

to my knowledge :

your heads looks useable although there're alot of carbon residue. i've overhauled my own engine before and it looked almost the same (worse actually)
changing new blocks???that could cost a bomb and not sure JPJ approve. change block is almost equal to change engine (punch engine number yourself?)
I also grind my own valves, wash the pistons and reuse the rods.

things i changed when i overhaul my engine are push rode tubes, engine rebuild kit, piston rings...

As far as i remember, crank shaft place memang ade shims laa...i think about 5shims.before the shims there's a oil seal. u should check the oil seal instead of blaming the shims..hehehe..

Clutch plate is advised to change anyhow since u've dropped the engine.

also, do check your starter motor too. if your mechanic has the tool, check the compression ratio. check the oil pump and fuel pump.

if it's stored properly inside ur house without letting water getting on her, my guess is the engine is still useable.
just need to change engine oil and fresh battery then add petrol to start it.

Added on July 5, 2012, 4:37 pmi'm in urgent need of cash, hoping to part of my lovely beetle at minimum RM5k.
Pros: AS 1.6 engine, disc brakes, air cond, good chasis, genuine car registration papers and non chopped car. Nice car plate number with alphabet "JJ". Engine just overhauled not long and has been up to genting with the ability of 4th gear all the way.

Cons: rusts here and there which will costs rouhgly another 8k for treating them. needs a new silencer, it's noisy.
