As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Arrogant, but that means he will stubbornly do whatever he feels is best to get results. It also means results matter to him, since his ego won't be happy without it tongue.gif

Crap, ayam reporting in as a vacant number.

Tonight play Fellaini as ST. Bomb 101 long balls forward and hope to score. Long ball is also a tactic.

same line up as b4. Still with diamond formation. Being pressed like hell. Outmuscle. Rojoney at midfield is rubbish. And no, Herrera?

It is painfull to see MU playing like this.

If we are going to spend 47 million and 200k a week on Falcao, might as well throw that money at Harry Kane. Spurs and Kane will lap it up.

Kane is having his time of his early career, but will he be able to maintain it? He does have potential, but so did Berahino earlier in the season.

For me, wait and see if Kane can repeat that next season at least. Plus, should give Wilson more chance to show his stuff. Who knows, United might have their own.

Walauwei.

So quick to judge Di Maria. He just came back from a great season at RM and for me great WC with Argentina. With, I would say, not perfect pre-season regimes, of course he would struggle especially coming from different culture, weather and of course languages. Give him next season, after proper preseason with the whole squad lah. If he still struggles, then, ok.

Falcao, probably because of the major injury. He would need a year to regain his sharpness back. It would be a shame to have other clubs having a fully fit sharp Falcao next season, but that remains to be seen. At the moment, he is not worth the fees. If can still continue loan deal next season, should be ok.

Such a pain to watch United play. shocking.gif

IMHO, keep Di Maria (he'll come good eventually), Herrera & sell Mata, RVP. Offload Falcao, he was really very terrible last night. He lost possession of all the ball directed to him. What a pity & waste.

QUOTE(limjenson @ Feb 12 2015, 09:42 AM)
If we are going to spend 47 million and 200k a week on Falcao, might as well throw that money at Harry Kane. Spurs and Kane will lap it up.
*
....Except Levy is known to make ppl suffer when negotiating, especially domestic clubs. Offer 47mil he will probably want 50% on top of it =_=

QUOTE(gr8fr8 @ Feb 12 2015, 10:42 AM)

*
AdM = Yep, he might be paying a bit for his busy season and WC effort (plus the injury recovery). Needs time.

Falcao probably needs time too. But given his salary AND the 43mil fee decision at season end.. he won't get it.

Who else find di maria overpriced? He's good but his price is too much form his current performance. I thought alexis is so much better.

QUOTE
In the second half of Wednesday night's 3-1 Premier League home win over Burnley, the England captain played as a defensive midfielder in a diamond formation after Daley Blind was substituted following a clash of heads.

Rooney moved to a sitting role behind Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria and van Gaal thinks his team is more effective with Rooney in midfield.

"I have to look for the better balance and I think until now because of Rooney, we have a better balance in midfield," said the Dutchman.

"I was very pleased how he replaced Daley Blind in the number six position.

"He showed composure and of course he was also today the Rooney that I want to see, but he has showed that he can play in every position.

"Maybe he can better play in a striker's position but then I have a problem in midfield."

Van Gaal played down the seriousness of Blind’s head injury but expressed concern for Phil Jones, who was replaced by Chris Smalling on five minutes after hurting his knee.

"Blind has a headache but I don't think he is out of the game on Monday (in the FA Cup against Preston North End)," he told MUTV.

"I think, for Jones, we have to wait. I think it shall be difficult as he was very disappointed when I spoke with him. Maybe it's a knee problem so it's not good."

So next week, our Wayne Rooney will be position as a Midfielder again? And 30 minutes after game start he will start play his role as a defensive midfielder. Puiiittt philosophy, play like Nibong Tebal FC no standard at all.

or Herrera. If Herrera is worse than Rooney in midfield, then might as well play Smalling as striker since he has scored more goals in a match than Falcao did in 5 matches.

why is that good for the future of the club? If there isn't CL football next season, players won't want to come in, budget will take a big hit, sponsors withdraw, big managers won't want to come, players want to leave. So other than make certain groups of fans happy, there isn't any other thing that is good for the club. Please think rationally.

Even though we're in transition, we're still in 3rd place and fighting for a spot for CL. If we don't get CL football, then everyone can riot.

Agreed with you.
4-3-3 need 3 strong midfielders like:
Carrick + Progba + Vidal
Where each midfielder can play more than 1 player role. assume like each of them is 1.5 player.

If using Blind + Herrera + Maria:
Maria move up attack then left only Blind + Herrera, if opponent use diamond (4 players) then we are gone case.

LVG master plan should be using 3-4-3 or 4-3-3, for 3 defenders I doubt if can work in EPL or not.
but 4-3-3 need super fast winger to penetrate the defenders but u need a strong 3 central midfielders.
Currently we don't have ball winner at midfielder side like vidal or pogba or strootman.

Most important objective is to get to TOP 4 and at least win the FA cup.
This summer we will spend super big.
Watch this space.

Because then MU can LOOK for talent, not spending MONEY for talent. Look what AS ROMA had achieve. Used to be 7-8th place, now top 3. A lot of talent are coming from us. Lamela, Benatia, Borini, Strootman! Even qualified for UCL. And the whole team cost less than MU Midfielders alone.

QUOTE
Van Gaal disputed suggestions that United have been turning in several substandard performances recently by pointing to a record of only one defeat in 18 games and the league table, where they have tended to reside in the top four.

He said: "You are assuming we are not playing well. I don't agree. I have only said that this match was not good.

"We have played now 16 or 17 [actually 18] matches with only one loss and with a lot of goals in our favour, so I don't think that every match is not attractive and that we are not playing attacking football.

"We are already in the top four for how many weeks? You can look at the table. Not one week. How many, 10 weeks? We are still third or fourth. Ten weeks already."

But his ego is just. doh.gif Playing WR in doesn't bring balance. But instead, makes the attack worse.

Lol, were going into a total meltdown.. But cannot tahan mad.gif

The Burnley match, how was Rooney effective as a midfielder? He just huff, puff and run like a headless chicken chasing for 2nd balls? Wait what? LVG has degraded him to such roles like that rclxub.gif

He's suppose to be up front, cause trouble to defenders and score goals cry.gif

I'd take Rooney over RvP and Falcao as a CF on current form of Falcao and RvP.Heck,i'd start Wilson as the CF,Rooney behind him,AdM on left wing,Tony V on right,Blind and Herrera in midfield.

Rooney was clueless TBH during that Burnley match.Falcao's poor, yes,he's returning from a long time out due to a serious knee injury, but by now,he should be firing in some goals already.

Don't think the problem is really up front. At the moment we move the ball too slow. By the time it reaches Falcao and RvP, there are too many defenders surrounding them. LvG might need to swallow his pride and get the team play the Man Utd's 4-4-2 again with wingers. Di Maria and Januzaj on the flanks with freedom to run at defenders. Or perhaps he did consider reverting back to old system but he just can't trust his defenders. Tough job!

*
you look for talent, you must also give the talents a reason to come over. All teams want the best, the best players can teach the younger talents to be better. To get the best, you have to pay.

You don't compare Roma with United. Totally different league, both country and stature. And to think that some fans want united to drop in stature so that the manager can go while we are still competing for a champions league spot after a disastrous season. If we are out of the champions league next season, players like di maria, de gea, rooney, rvp, mata all would wanna leave. You want to poach players, not let you players be lured away to other clubs promising champions league football.

Always remember, form is temporary, class is permanent.

Well, he's correct. We are slow to move the ball forward long ball or not. Players took too many touches before passing. We have pacey players but they are not used for their speed. We have creative midfielders but I don't see their creativity. And of course there's the Rooney conundrum. I truly believe the reason we are winning its because opposition are confused on what United is supposed to be tongue.gif I will accept these kind of ugly play if we finish in the top 4. But it has to change next season.

falcao control ball is very very poor. 80% time he gets ball, he lost it. and 20% he managed to pass sideways or backwards.

He's a penalty box striker. Sort like Van Nistelrooy. Strange that he was deployed behind RvP. He shld play top.

Matic? x buleh la bang. Mikel la. Nak? less then 10M can get riao I think. laugh.gif Gud bus driver yo.

But honestly, I think 100% Mikel won't go to Utd. After the incident between Chelsea n Utd for his signing. doh.gif

For u guys, I think either 1 have to be sacrificed la. Either Falcao or Rooney. But for now it seems like Rooney is the 1 being sacrificed for playing in midfield. LVG still have faith in Falcao. Well, I think that's what u get when u have so many top quality strikers. RVP, Falcao and Rooney diz 3 strikers memang starting 11 material, d question is, who to sacrifice to be played out of position. hmm.gif

Mikel? Meh not interested, thanks. biggrin.gif

Actually I reckon Falcao or RVP has to be benched if Rooney to play as a #10 and feed whoever is in front. That said, Falcao is probably getting his run of games to find his form and improve fitness ... so LVG can decide whether to sign him in the summer or let him go. RVP is playing because in spite of our horrendous slow ponderous build up play, he has still managed to weigh in with some goals and assists. Rooney is playing in CM because LVG didn't trust Herrera there.

Hopefully the Burnley game and Herrera's performance in it has changed his mind. If he trusts the Spaniard to play in midfield, there is a higher chance he will be willing to play Rooney further up front.

rclxub.gif what is this...Is LVG playing dumb with us or does he not see the purpose of having Afroman, Helelela and permata anymore mad.gif Ughhhhhh!!!!!!!

QUOTE
Van Gaal intends to buy midfielder

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed he intends to sign a midfielder in the summer.

Although the winter window closed recently, the Reds chief was pressed on the transfer front ahead of the FA Cup fifth-round tie at Preston North End on Monday. When asked if his priority will be to find a new midfield man, he replied: "Of course, of course.

"I am looking for balance and I need balance in midfield. When I play with [Adnan] Januzaj and [Angel] Di Maria in the midfield positions, then you need a certain balance for that kind of creative player.

"So, when you have these creative players, and also [Radamel] Falcao and [Robin] van Persie are creative players, then you have four creative players and you have to look for balance in your team."

Michael Carrick's absence and the injury to Daley Blind against Burnley led to Wayne Rooney dropping into a deeper role. When asked if Rooney is content playing in a midfield position, the boss answered: "He is happy. Otherwise, he should come to me and say: 'I am not happy', but he never does. He is always friendly to me and wants to perform what I want.

"That is what I see, but, when the whole world is writing that he has to be in the striker's position, he shall be thinking ' hey' as he is human."

Fellaini is actually an attacking midfielder, almost like Rooney. so he can actually play as striker I think.

but Moyes played him as deep midfielder because of his physical presence and his afro.

because when you see dat afro, you become afraid.

very afraid.

Fellaini for DM or striker, both are good position for him.

DM- his tall and big body, advantage when challenging or hold ball

Striker - again his tall figure, air battle, high ball/chip pass to him will be easy

That dive is just shameful. That's a real low if you need to dive to get a penalty against Preston North End..

Anyway see ya'll in the quarter finals! Gonna be good! Arsenal only won once against United since 2009.

Anyway see ya'll in the quarter finals! Gonna be good! Arsenal only won once against United since 2009.

it was a shameful dive and not the 1st dive from rooney. usually he 'timing' it right. i'll give offside for the 1st goal too.

we riding our luck most of the time this season. but if we can win fa cup and achieve top 3 with that kind of luck, i'll take it.

Mata has been left to rot on the bench for 3-4 games straight. He, Falcao & RVP confirm will be cleared in the summer.

Rooney had to step out from rushing GK. Anyway GK not going to get the ball.

Win is a win, for now prefer unconvincing win over good consistent performance. we are improving a little bit, We need champion league football!!

LVG, a tactical genius or luckly, lol in March and April against top 6 teams we would know the answer

LVG should try to put Fellaini as a striker. Can see confidence is growing inside him when he is inside the box.

Although he is not fast but his height will be the key.

What the hell is wrong with Blind? Seems lost his plot. Thought he is the brain in the midfield??

Yes rooney dived...its a dirty job but somewhat has to get it done.

Same like ronaldo, messi, neymar, suarez, gerrard, totti, drogba, aguero, sterling, ashley young, shevchenko, hidetoshi nakata etc etc. So what is the real problem here?

Its either you kantoi or you tak kantoi.

preston;s manager had no issue with the 'alleged' dive because he was avoiding the sliding challenge of the goalkeeper, as per his own words.

yup its a simulation dive but its also a penalty.. preston GK no way getting the ball. rooney could easily left his foot and become contact. sometimes a foul doesnt hv to touch to be consider a foul.

For everyone laughing at Manchester United's league form,
allow me to tell you a story.

Railway workmen came together to play football once and dared to dream.
A dream to make something more of their lives. That is Manchester United.
The team lost its first ever competitive game 6-0 to Bolton Reserves. It got relegated in its second season of competitive football. In January 1902, it was asked to shut down because of debts. It didn't.
Instead it came back up and won the league, a FA Cup and a charity shield 2years later.
That is Manchester United.
From 1922 to 1940, United were relegated again and again and again. Faced with bankruptcy in 1931, United were on the verge of disaster again. Instead, the team held on and fought on. Finishing 2nd in 1947,1948 and 1949; 1st in '52, 55 and 56.It won the FA Cup in 1948 and became the first English team to play in Europe.
It had to wait 41 years for glory. That is Manchester United.

A plane took off on February 6, 1958. To greatness it seemed. And came crashing down. 8 players died. Facing despair and doom, the club fought on. It reached the final of the FA Cup that year. Without a first team, it plodded on and rebuilt.
7 years later, as the fallen 8 smiled from above, the team won the title in 1965 and 1967. And the European Cup in '68.That is Manchester United.

For 25 years it waited to win again, getting relegated, losing Managers and players as rivals laughed. It didn't fall then either. A league title in 1992, a double in '93 and a treble in '99.
That is Manchester United.

Blood, toil, sweat and tears. That is Manchester United.

Our squad needs a reshuffle you say. Our tactics are outdated you say. You laugh because you think we are down. You laugh because you think we are lost. We smile because we have seen it all.We smile because we know we will ALWAYS be back.
Wins from incredible positions. Glory from the darkest despair. That is Manchester United.

This is why I love this team, We may not be the best team in the world, we may not be the greatest of them all but we are the most inspirational team ever! That is what separates us from others, we are a team to look on to. Here we stand with 20 titles, better than anyone else. LFC and other EPL fans, enjoy your rare moment of happiness thinking United will go down forever. You truly deserve this rare moment after all the success United have had for the past 21 years with trophies and victories!
I don't know, when we'll be back, maybe this year, maybe next, maybe in 5-10 years time. And no, this is not blind faith, but BELIEVE Manchester United forever! Win, lose, or draw. Manchester United forever!"

We have enough midfield but LVG just don't want to play Fellaini and Herrera only

Because he want to accommodate Falcao, and push Rooney to in the midfield, so both Felaini and Herrera bench cuz the "sure" starter in the middle is Blind

Jones available for Swans trip

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has handed Louis van Gaal a fitness boost ahead of Saturday's trip to Swansea City.

The England international was withdrawn in the early stages of the win over Burnley at Old Trafford with a knee problem but is available for selection at the weekend after missing the FA Cup victory at Preston North End on Monday.

Robin van Persie also sat out the Deepdale encounter but, as expected, is in contention to return to the side in attack at a ground where he scored twice last term. The only absentee from the squad for the journey to Wales is Michael Carrick with the midfielder likely to return to training next week.

"They [Jones and van Persie] are fit to play," Louis van Gaal informed MUTV. "Only Carrick is still injured. I think he shall train with the group next week. I expect that, but you never know. You’ll have to wait and see."

Van Gaal expects an encounter that is easy on the eye at the Liberty Stadium as Garry Monk's team have forged a good reputation for their style of play.

"Swansea are a very good team," he added. "I like to see them playing. They want to play football. They want to make the game a passing game like we do, so I like that kind of football. I hope it shall be a match like that."

mcnair definitely lack of pace in this formation....
not a goood sign...too much space behind him to explore....
his speed n awareness kinda lacking...
too slow for support whenever ball get pass him...
will prefer valencia/rafael more to utilise herrera passing ability..

mcnair will less effective in right side....
but i willl more afraid when see him face gomis in middle...
he "too soft" to deal with swansea "hulk" lolx
plus his speed to back in support oso not too convincing...
jones+rojo will b better vs swansea compare rojo+mcnair

i not saying his fault...
but his style of play...

short/1touch play are more suitable to break the defense than long pass..
coz it very obvious at the end that all ball going fellani...
it damn frustrating to see...

like when i watch nba match SA spur vs La clipper...
the tactic are uselesss...keep waiting for error only....

Fellaini is our only hope at the moment.

LvG trust him too much and I can see why.

Most of our long balls to him, he brought it down and secure position nicely and it is a fact that this is the fastest route towards opposition.

Only thing is that..this is not our culture. Thing tactic is for lower league teams, not our beloved Manchester United.

Rooney really pass his prime
Play mid, tak jadi, play front he drop deep like he is mid, tak jadi also

Very predictable tactic, when shit happened, all balls to Fellaini to hold and pass, expect him to do all those things well

RVP, really? He just back from injury and straight into starting eleven.. Really?

No Wilson in the bench? He should be on and replace either Rooney or RVP but only that shittier Falcao on the bench

ADM too soft to be a winger, easily outmuscled by full back.

McNair from start shouldn't as full back, Valencia or Radael should start instead of him

Shaw, typical full back like Gary Nevile or Evra type who use to play overlap with winger but ADM is not "winger" in this formation.. So mostly his runs were failed

What else? Yeah, I don't like this possession but without penetration football... So ineffective for Man Utd. Pass pass pass pass pass pass but no shoot... This kind of pass pass pass tactic needs somebody good for the final pass to unlock the fw but currently we don't have cuz Carrick who is good in this was out injured

LVG and all his filosphy....his balance and his big ego.

FAIL!

One thing I do not like his style is that when he knows his tactics are not working, he will not go down onto the pitch and make changes or at least yell at the poor performing players.
He will just sit on his fat bum there doing nothing.

Why the hell LGV play Mcnair as a RB?

Trying to find his "balance"? Come on la LGV, stop playing the players in odd positions.
It's already like ....8 months into the season and you are still looking for "balance"?
I don't see any other clubs taking so long to do that. Balance balance balance, every damn day also hear him talking about balance.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: "Of course you can say we dominated the game but the only thing we could have done more was score more out of the chances we created. Today we were the unlucky team. I think we created enough chances. We were the dominant side in both halves.
"Conceding so quickly after opening the scoring was important. It was a throw in for Swansea and we should have been more organised. But it was a good goal by Swansea.
"Today we played well - only we forgot to score. We have to be more effective."

I have a feeling that Arsenal is going to kick MU out from the FA Cup competition. Good luck LVG!!!

Van Persie leaves ground on crutches

Robin van Persie picked up an injury in the latter stages of Manchester United's defeat to Swansea City.

The Dutch striker clearly hurt himself while crossing the ball as United chased the game, having gone 2-1 down through Bafetimbi Gomis' deflection of Jonjo Shelvey's long-range shot.

Van Persie stayed on the field with United having made all three permitted substitutions, but left the Liberty Stadium using crutches with his lower right leg and foot in a protective cast.

Confirming the Netherlands international had struggled late on in the game, manager Louis van Gaal said: "We dominated the game even with 10 men because Robin van Persie could not run anymore after the injury."

Van Persie missed the FA Cup win at Preston North End but proved his fitness ahead of the clash in Wales and regained his place in the line-up.

Sad - played much much better than recent weeks, played with movements and guile and thrust especially on the left side by Shaw. He is really showing the kind of form that made United pay that large sum for him. Dominated large part of second half but still couldn't make that clear cut chances.

Please bring back the boring but winning United team.

I wondered what are the reactions from guys that said we play poorly if we've got the result in our hand...

imo, they played much better...less side/back pass and more attacking, eventhough final balls are preety poor...

ander's command in midfield is significant, just that i can't brain whats the point of having blind playing almost the same role...why not push daley to the flanks and see he can do, perhaps more crosses a la worldcup? Well...lvg promised him a role in the midfield, so that aint gonna happen i guess...hmm

ADM was ok, just that we're aint madrid, similar to shinji's passings...unpredictable by normal players that we have, aint above the par players aka football genius

Spend money like Russian oligarch and play cross like Moyes or

Spend more money using Arab limitless oil money and still play cross like Moyes.

It's not that.

It's just that the team is playing poorly and lost the game.

If you see notice in most of the matches, MU were lucky to get 3 points, if not 1 points. Lady luck wlll not always be there with the team.
How long can you hang on there? With this type of performance, the next coming games wont be easy. Unless LVG do something about it.

It appears like they are sliding down after each game.

im starting to believe that Van Gaal football philosophy is full of crap.. recently he spoke that his players understood his philosophy.. no wander we lost.. to be honest not coming to the base line and shouting at your players to buck the hell up kinda make me feels that if the player is at fault he would get a way with it.. he most probably took the team to Nando's after the defeat..

whats up with all this long balls.. some many times Rooney had to come into midfield to get the build up play going.. RvP has to come in so deep... kinda understand that both falcao & RvP are not playing so well come they are not getting any good service..

we are already 4th.. west ham, spurs & liverpool are gathering pace..

there hasnt been a game this season that i even enjoyed watching...

If LvG cant do the job, may I ask who can? josep guardiola? JM?

We have to stop dreaming abt the day under SAF. SAF is irreplaceable. The way he injected the winning mental to the team when the strength of the team is so poor... is amazing. But you will not find anyone else able to do this again.

slow cautious possession style......and whole game cross like moyes...

play 4-3-3, 4-4-2 , got herrera, maria, mata in midfield still can't play thru the middle. this all due to cautious style of passing. Passing too predictable, how to play thru middle? stupid philosophy.

Always pass to the safest most obvious teammate.
9/10 i can predict who rooney and blind will pass to.

hope rvp goes out for a long time. stupid finisher.

ADM nowadays play left CM, but still perform like meh.

You do realized how bad the team is playing right. And like what everyone is saying, we are just grinding the result again and again.
Yes, result is all that matter but the problem is we are performing in this way when we are not even fighting the strong teams yet.
After next week fixture, we will get a hell of a fixture that will really determine whether we can stay on top 4 or not.
Of course finger cross that we can manage to grind this out as well.

2 defeats in 18 matches. No panic? Yup.

But how many wins? Look at how awful the team is playing. Pass pass pass, sideways to backwards to sideways again. No penetration at all. Grab the ball, pass to winger, cross in. Repeat 100x in the same game and ask Afro to bomb forward as a target man.

Look at how poor Di Maria and Van Persie was last night. Horrible. Rooney, operating as a forward but yet kept playing as if he was a central midfielder, pass pass pass.

The way we are playing, it is no difference from Moyes 81 crosses last season. What a load of bullcrap.

Very true.

Nowadays I don't really have excitement watching our match. Before half time I already feel sleepy.

Back then even 0-0 till injury time also await because of attacking football.

It must be old age creeping up to us laugh.gif

But wait seriously, we all were complaining LVG wasn't playing Herrera, and now he is, but now he drops Mata and some of us here still complaining hmm.gif?

Although my personal wish is that he plays Herrera and Mata, but then again our midfield would be seriously weak.

Yesterday for instance, Di Maria was easily brushed off by the opposition, WHICH IS Freaking Depressing!!!!!!!

The problem with LvG is english clubs are no spanish nor holland. They do not train with procession football in youth. They are used to physical attack and defence. It is difficult to inject such idea into existing squad members because they are not brought up in such way.

I believe that is the reason why LvG stick with McNair, Rojo, Blakett... because they are young and more easily adapt to new idea. Same goes to our MF and forward dept.

It will take more than a year for the whole club to get use to this idea. For now, sometimes it works sometimes not. So if we able to win the 3rd spot, we are lucky. Otherwise, just hang on for a while. Our time will come, and for now we need to continue support the team.

Could've strengthen the squad in January but came up with excuses that 'no players are available'. Chelsea signed Cuadrado in the window ffs.

Best strike force in the BPL but overshadowed by the likes of Diego Costa/ Harry Kane and Danny Ings. Something is wrong with the tactic for sure.

*
Gary Neville said the exact same thing. His column is actually a good read. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/footbal...l-10061300.html

LVG is about the result (i.e. winning ugly) or possession and control. Look at Mourinho and his practicality and emphasis on result over "excitement", look at Barca/Pep and their emphasis on possession and control. Heck look at Bayern now with the "Pep" effect. The same guys and clubs who have shared roots with LVG. None of them are about the SAF style of risky attacking football. If we had wanted that style of football, should have gone all out for Klopp.

The way I see it, LVG was signed because we need someone experienced and harsh to take a chopper to a squad (which he has done), sign high profile players (which he has done), and get results and restore confidence (which he has also done, just not enough for our liking).

Anyone who compares him to Moyes should think back to Jan-May and how depressed everyone here felt about the results. Now we just feel frustrated, not deflated.

Problem is we don't need attacking players, we already have a lot of those. Heck we can even afford to complain that our choice attacking player is benched or isn't in the squad.

What we need an experienced CB (e.g. someone in the mold of Hummels/Miranda/Godin) to boss the defense and a commanding CM (e.g. Strootman/Vidal/Pogba) to help us exert control or offer some muscle in the middle of the park. Right now we got big name attacking players, but the defense is like sand and the midfield is like taufoo in front of it. So the flirting with 3CBs, all the emphasis on possession and making "safe" passes instead of taking risks, all the formation tweaks... it's just to try and cover that weakness, when the papering works then we can nick wins (or draws), when it doesn't work then we get beaten.

January would not have offered us the type of high profile players to fill those positions. If we wanna complain about signings, I would actually question our scouting department. When was the last time we found a player like Vidic or Evra and successfully got them running the show in their position in our starting 11? Rojo/Shaw/Blind/AdM/Herrera/Falcao are hardly surprise signings, the lowest profile among them would be Rojo (who did well in the WC up to the final) and Blind (who also shone in the WC for the Dutch up to the semis). Former impressed LvG, latter PLAYED for LvG. So where is the surprise? Before that? The last one that comes to mind is Chicharito, and he wasn't good enough to make the starting 11. You could argue for Januzaj, but where he will end up (starting 11, bench, different club) still remains to be seen.

Nothing wrong with making big name signings, but that will not always be possible. The not-so-famous signings are just as important for team success. Look at Chelsea. For all their cash, their defense has been assembled for a relatively decent budget. Ivanovic, Azpi, Cahill were not "high profile" or expensive signings. Terry no need to say. Zouma wasn't $$$ either. Curtois and Cech didn't cost them a premium in transfer fees either. Only David Luiz and Filipe Luis cost them a chunk, and the former was sold for mind boggling money while the latter essentially cost them the same as we paid for Rojo. What we miss now is a "Terry" to bring order to our defense.

some fans wanted a world class manager to replace a mid table manager, they got it and now they want the world class manager out to be replaced with someone that they can't name... Give them Klopp now and they will say that he is a bottom table manager.. No point reasoning.. LvG has got the players respect and he's still got the dressing room, that's all that matters to me.. He's a strict manager and yet, the players still got his back, he must be doing something right..

No matter what, just get the 3 points.

Why he still thinks that his filosfy and his tactics works in BPL?
or is it player problems?
so many months into the season, i sure he can see that.

I really envy some managers in some clubs....jump into the new club and can start showing results.

This one, until today still talk about finding the balance, etc.

Hahaha. I did watch that game, bare in mind. Yes, I agree with you, we were unable to convert those possesion into a threatning attack. But I love that game, because we dominate the game, had a couple of attacks, minimise the opponent attacks, but in the end, being let down by a deflected goal.

Its kind of weird, often when we did play beautiful game, we end up on a losing side.

How is our game against Swansea considered as 'beautiful'? If my memory serves me right, all I see is the ball being passed to the left and cross to Fellaini. What is the point of dominating a game when you are not winning them?

The team pass around with no ambition. Playing safe most of the time, no difference from Cleverley's crab style passing. There is no penetration nor pace in our attacks. It's slow and dull.

Lvg can't figure how to play away from old Trafford. 3 away wins the whole season is embarrassing.

I think the captain armband is a burden to him.
As a captain, he has to cover so many areas when his team mates are screwing up in their department.
This is what i think.

man marking in corner - clueless in past few games.

counter attacking v slow. and end when the ball rch fellaini. long balls to him all the way. adm hold balls and try dribble all the time instead of passing.

Danilo could be the subject of a summer bidding war between Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United. Currently trailing Benfica by seven points in the Primeira Liga, Porto are unlikely to fend off such high profile interest in the defender, who has a £36.9m buy-out clause in his contract.

TBH the most obvious improvement would be in terms of injury count reduction compared to the early part of the season. That and the "resurrection" of some players career at OT i.e. Young and Fellaini.

Aside from that? Hard to say. Formation and player positions have changed so many times over the course of the season. 3CBs in preseason then abandoned then returned then abandoned. Herrera from godly preseason to steady to bench-warmer to playing again. Rooney from striker to second striker to midfielder to striker. AdM from winger/AM to 2nd striker to winger/AM. Midfield changed so much in terms of personnel used and position played that it's hard to see obvious "growth" into his filosofi.

Some of the young players who shone a few months ago are now back to the "squad" level. Blackett has obviously lost his chance to command a regular position in defense (he played in the most recent U21s game and got sent off too, iirc). McNair has talent, but his position remains to be seen. RB he looked great in 1 game, then looked exposed vs Swansea. Maybe CB is where he will do best, although LVG has also played him as a DM in a reserve game iirc. Wilson also played in U21s game (and got a dead leg).

Maybe we are missing the experience of Carrick, our form has certainly taken a dip he got injured.

*
we have Woody who like to swing and show everyone how big his c*ck and the club financial power are. He got falcao who is unnecesary, Di maria with British record breaking fee, and SHaw who cost far more than his age and reputation. Herrera and Fellaini at the same price as Fabregas and Sanchez.

PEREIRA LIKELY TO LEAVE THIS SUMMER

However, both players have endured frustrating seasons under United boss Louis van Gaal, and speculation is rife that at least one of them will leave this summer.

Pereira’s contract expires in June, and it’s been reported by Dutch website Voetbal International - via HLN journalist Kristof Terruer - that the Brazil Under-20 international has no desire to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.

But in all honesty though, Young should just start ahead of Fellaini

Not criticizing his views, and I admit I do not know about him, but there are "great" managers in this era than LVG for the past 10 - 20 years..

And would agree with Zenix, why did he not include SAF? Or he's just viewing it from a dutch legend perspective?

Cos his list is managers to revolutionized the game in terms of formations/tactical innovation, not of great managers overall. A lot of other big names are not there because they were big managers but didn't change how football was played.

I doubt Mourinho would have been on the list even if Rinus was still alive, simply because he has more in common with SAF (great at motivating players/team, using psychology on opponents, getting results) than he does the names in that list.

i would not use great grand master, since all have their own merits and time makes comparisons hard. great grandfather? tongue.gif

yea SAF and his willingness to keep adapting.. amazing. Wanted to say his man-management is his greatest strength, but other managers can be pretty damn good at that too (Mourinho for one). But that willingness to keep changing is damn rare.

Remember the change clearly though, in the 90s we were so gung-ho aggressive in Europe....turn of the century and we changed to pack midfield and put more emphasis on clean sheets at home in CL games.
