Political links and cronyism aside

From my experience, Taibland's businesses are quite well-run

One thing which deters me from investing in such companies is the daily concern/worry when will that magic hand be taken away, especially with the constant threats like the recent book on his wealth building machines, family empire, etc.

The smart/good ones can make $$$ by riding on his boats but just not for me though I am a Sarawakian. I should support my own state, right? Ha.

Well run because...

CMS have monopoly on cement.. Sarawak Govt use cabotage to raise import prices and dont allow building of cement plant... so they have upper hand in properties. Given monopoly on road repair for 15 years by Sarawak Govt..All state projects also given to CMSB..

Dayang have political links to ensure majority of OnG works in bintulu/miri area is given to them or Sarawak Govt cease the exploration license and make shell/murphy oil squirm...

Ta Ann, SOP & Sarawak Plant and others evict the orang asli, acquire land for a song (less than RM 100 per hectare).. jungle land license given/issued for free by Sarawak Govt for those connected..then convert to plantation land.

Sanyan Group, Ta Ann, WTK also controlled by the family.. Cheap/FOC timber concessions given by Sarawak Govt, also evict orang asli..

With all those FOC things and monopoly.. I think if a monkey run the company also can be well run.. rolleyes.gif

His son bussiness is not so dependent on cronyism.. like SKPet >70% revenue is out of Malaysia and non Petronas related...

At least he is wise to get Petronas for a lifting hand (for initial success), and then venture out themselves.

Pek Moh business is still very very dependent on a friendly Sarawak Government.. sweat.gif

In the U.S., when gas is cheap:
1) Americans choose pick-up trucks over sedans;
2) they choose conventional vehicles over hybrid vehicles/electric vehicles.

No. 2 is not applicable to Malaysia. However, car buyers may choose Mazda 3 over Mazda 2.

BJauto flying up today. Decling oil price, steel price and yen/myr must be good for the company.
