Hi all,

I dunno if i post my questions at the correct forum. If wrong, MOD please help to transfer to the correct one, thanks a lot.

I would like to ask..recently a friend of mine got his credit card statement and shows an online purchase transaction thru paypal, which he didn't do.
The amount is US$100. He went to the card issuing bank to complaint, but the bank said they can't do much bcos the transaction was made online and they can't trace the person who did it. So, he has to pay the US$100.

He wants to lodge police report, but i told him it's gonna be very hard cos I'm sure the police won't entertain. Is there any way he can trace the person? If can't, that means if people know your credit card details, they can simply register it online and make purchases i.e. in ebay, paypal, etc?

Or, have you guys encountered such problem before?
Thanks!

he never has paypal account. someone must have known his credit card details, then went to paypal to register his card details and start to buy stuff online. The bank is maybank. the staff at maybank said they cant trace who's the person who did it.

Issit true you can't trace the person? I know this is not like hacking where u can trace by IP address, etc...then how ahh? ohmy.gif

^ if ur fren dont hv paypal, he can still file a complaint with paypal.

first, freeze all activities with the cc company.
then report case of "stolen cc info & fund" to paypal, maybe they can help trace & punish the thief!
rmb to keep all related supporting documents

all the best

Maybank huh ? I'm a Maybank credit card user. Last time when I made transaction using ebay.com & paypal.com , I was contacted by Maybank officer to verify that I'm the legit owner which doing that online transaction using credit card.

To get verified paypal using credit card, owner must also provide CVV2 also. So, must be someone who have access to the card itself instead of the statement (which contains the CC number).
