You need to properly configure the VLAN VID for Maxis Fibre.
As you had set up the pppoe account, you need to configure the VLAN id or directly load ISP profile for Maxis fibre.

The VLAN id for maxis Fibre on TM infrastructure is
621 for internet (PPPoE)
822 for VoIP/SIP
821 for Tm management Network
823 for IPTV

The VLAN id for maxis Fibre on Maxis infrastructure is
11 for internet (PPPoE)
14 for VoIP/SIP
6 for Tm management Network
17 for IPTV

For IP address please select dynamic IP address.

Hope it heps! nod.gif

All sifu, I need your help.

I just jump from unifi to maxis home fiber service recently. I'm able to replace the standard TPlink Archer C5v router (that provided by MAxis) with Asus Router AX88u when I was using XXX@home.maxis.com.my (user name - for private IP) by myself, and the internet access work beautifully after the replacement.

However, when I requested the public ip (i.e. XXX@public.maxis.com.my), it could be activated within Maxis's Tplink router, but not on Asus AX88u router. Thus no internet access despite multiple restarts.

Is there anything specific I need to configure inside Asus AX88u router for Maxis fiber, with public ip enable?

Pls advice.

Thanks all sifus.

It should come with Skyworth 2.5G modem

Make sure they give you this or an equivalent model else don't sign acceptance

Hi sifus,

I’m currently facing a very strange connectivity issue with Maxis Home Fibre. My internet suddenly went down, and since then I’ve been unable to reconnect using my own router.

What’s happening

My router log repeatedly shows PPPoE authentication failure, even though the discovery phase completes normally. Below is the relevant part of the log:

CODE

2025-11-27T15:14:31Z [Informational] InitAppComm successful! inst:0, encaps:0, diag:0(pppd:4931)

2025-11-27T15:14:34Z [Informational] fsm_close Interface ppp0, fsm: 0, state: 0, reason: LCP down(pppd:4931)

2025-11-27T15:14:34Z [Informational] Connection terminated.(pppd:4931)
2025-11-27T15:14:34Z [Warning] PADT Received

What I have tried

Called 123 to get a new PPPoE password → still authentication failed

Tried with my TP-Link BE65 (Maxis VLAN 621 on Unifi infra) → same error

Reconnected the original Maxis router → it can authenticate
BUT when I check the router UI, the PPPoE password field is blank

So I can’t retrieve the actual working password.

What Maxperts did

Maxperts came to my house, but unfortunately they could not resolve the issue.

Here’s what happened:

They noticed the PPPoE password shown in the Maxis router is blank

They also could not explain why the password is missing

They tried to push a fresh configuration from the Maxis backend
→ still failed

They suggested maybe it’s the router issue
→ but as a software engineer, I strongly believe this is not a hardware issue

To me, this clearly looks like a Maxis backend / PPPoE provisioning problem, not a configuration issue on my side.

My Temporary workaround (but not ideal)

Right now, the only way I can get online is:

Use Maxis router just to authenticate PPPoE

Disable WiFi on the Maxis router

Run my own router behind it in DHCP mode

This works, but it’s not optimal because:

I cannot achieve full 1Gbps throughput
(Maxis router LAN port is only 1Gbps, while my GPON and main router are 2.5Gbps)

My setup was running perfectly fine for months

I did not change any settings — it just suddenly stopped working

Current situation

Only Maxis router can authenticate PPPoE (even with blank password)

Any third-party router → fails authentication

New PPPoE password from 123 → also fails

Maxperts → unable to fix

At this point, I’m quite sure this is a backend authentication issue on Maxis’ side.

Has anyone encountered this before or know what might be causing it?

Any advice is appreciated!

If you need more details about my setup, I can share.

Update us again if you ever solved the issue.

Sound like they bind Mac address of the router.

I attempted to clone the MAC address from the Maxis router to my own router, but the issue persists and the connection still doesn’t work. rclxub.gif

Topic Update: [SOLVED] Retrieved PPPoE Password from Maxis Kaon AR2140 (Firmware 1.2.50_r33)

Update: I managed to retrieve the PPPoE password and successfully connected my own TP-Link BE65!

For anyone else stuck with the "Blank Password" field in the Maxis router or unable to get the correct password from customer service (123), here is what worked and what didn't.

What DIDN'T work:

Asking 123: The CS are always giving me the wrong and outdated PPPoE password ==

Decrypting the backup file: I tried brute-forcing the backupsettings.conf file using openssl with the Serial Number, MAC address, and various default keys. It kept returning "Bad Decrypt," suggesting Maxis might be using a custom or hardcoded master key for this firmware version.

What WORKED (The Solution): It turns out the router sends the full password in cleartext to your browser, but the UI just hides it. You don't need to decrypt anything.

Steps to get your Password:

Connect your PC to the Maxis (Kaon) router via Wi-Fi or LAN.

Log in to the Web UI (192.168.1.254) as administrator, password is SN number.

Press F12 to open the Developer Tools in your browser (Chrome/Edge).

Go to the Network tab in Developer Tools.

Navigate to the Settings > WAN (or Internet) page in the router UI.

Look at the list of network requests that appear. Find the one that fetches the WAN settings (it usually returns a JSON or XML response).

Click on that request and look at the Response tab.

Search (Ctrl+F) for pppoe-userpassword. You will see your actual password right there in the code.
