Recently was approached by an agent stating my condo will finally have fibre infra in few months time as they have confirmed TM has already plan in hand to setup fibre infra at my condo.

Now the agent, who has been contacted me since a year back, proposed me to sign up Maxis Fibre In Box package now at price of RM88 per month with 1 year contract but free for first 6 months. It's a temporary package that will automatically convert to Maxis Fibre once my condo has the infra.

It seems attractive but my question is, this current Fibre In Box is like pre Fibre plan using 4G data. Does this have any speed cap? Any FUP like speed limit after certain quota being used up? Is it recommend to subscribe? I think this should be the Maxis Home 4G WiFi 4G plan, right?

I knew this could be an old and noob question but hopefully somebody can help me to answer this. As I am in urgent to give my feedback to the agent and has no time to look into a bunch of threads and post.

Anyway, thanks, for those who is going to answer me. Thanks.

I never used it before but im pretty sure the speed is basically as best as they can offer, i think a friend of mine was using it during mco and got maybe 15 to 25mbps?
highly depends on the load of your area and also the location of where you put the router though as the small 4g dongle isnt very powerful.
Supposedly has a 1TB FUP for streaming sites I've heard

also btw the "6 months free" isnt actually 6 months free afaik, its basically just 6 months worth of rebates credited to your bill over the contract term.

Oh.. if it's 1TB still considered fine for me as currently I am using the old retired Digi Infinite 150 with 999GB of FUP on unlocked Huawei B618-65d. I really need more info on this so called Maxis pre-fibre plan.

In that case maybe I can make full use for my B618 with the Maxis sim card I guess since the B618 is a well known powerful LTE modem.

1. This Fibre In A Box is just default "placeholder" while waiting for your actual fibre to be installed. You can actually sign up fibre anytime with Maxis, and still get this. I would advise that you do not play to the urgency of the agent, because ....

2. How soon and how "confirmed" is TM wiring your building? You will still be liable to pay for this Fibre In the Box in meantime.

3. Is there any exclusivity deal between your building management and TM (e.g. "we will wire your building but all must use Unifi in the first 2 years from service start date.) I'm not versed if such deal is valid or enforceable, but, I am just bringing it up for you to ponder and find out. (Also, consider it unfair lah if building convinced you to come in when no one else wanted to, and you spent doing cabling but competitors gets to snatch business instead, right?)

4. Will TM eventually make available a port for Maxis to service you? If you subscribed to Maxis too early and Maxis end up hammering TM even before cabling is done, what's the possibility of tit-for-tat not enough port right from outset? (my mind is playing game.) As narrated somewhere in this forum just few days ago, all it takes is for TM to miss out your address in the HSBB database, or, for TM to place reservation on your address as if you signed up with them.

---

Just to relate my experience with that Box; it comes with router, USB dongle modem to attach, AND Zerolution contract.

Maxis gave another router when fibre is installed
~1month later; incidentally the same model as the one in this Box.

I was told to return the Box to Maxis Centre; router, dongle modem, SIM. Better if you keep its original packaging. I was then to call 123 to inform them that I've returned the set because fibre installation was completed; only 123 can prorate+cancel the associated 4G subscription and Zerolution contract.

Now, the fibre itself comes with backup USB dongle modem. While I was returning whole Box to Maxis Centre, I enquired about backup 4G. Centre explained that another dongle will always be delivered separately at later date, but since I was already in Centre and had asked about it, they said just take back the existing dongle modem for that purpose, and they issued me a new SIM for it.

(Else, Centre will just keep the Box etc idle inside store. sounds like not going to be re-issued to another customer?)

A week later, the fibre installer did call me up toarrange plugging in a backup dongle (in his job sheet), which I declined and explained to him that Centre told me to reuse the one from Box and already issued a SIM as well, so he no need to drive 30km just to deliver a duplicate.

The OG "Postpaid Infinite 150" is NOT 999GB FUP.
Testimony from other users - you can call DiGi CS to reset quota anytime it hits another 1TB. Do not confuse with the later "Postpaid 150" (look at the name), which is - yes - 1TB quota non-refreshable if you keep renewing 12mth contract.

Hmmm.... i think there was something about -anything- wireless on Maxis is capped to FUP 300GB per whole account; when it then will start to tinker with video.
i.e. fibre 4G backup + all mobile postpaid in same account = total 300GB FUP, which it will then start to affect quality of video streaming.

Wow.. really a huge thanks for your reply. You really give me a great guideline to "play safe" just in case bad things happen. So I guess it is best to just keep observe before taking any action. Since I am staying here if there are people do the wiring, I guess the answer is getting near. It's true for not risking on unforeseen and unpredictable future circumstances. Thanks a lot.

I am new to Maxis Fibre and just completed the installation today in my new house. Previously was using Unifi in my old house.

I subscribed to 300Mbps with WiFi 6 router. My question, is Maxis Fibre actually cap the download speed for downloading files from file hosting website or cloud service, such as OneDrive, GDrive?

I am downloading files through GDrive but I just unable to get max speed. Others like 1fichier and etc also cannot get full speed. Downloading games from Steam can get myself full download speed as allocated for 300Mnps. Speed test I can get 300Mbps as well. And I am connecting using LAN cable to my PC.

Or this is some sort of certain hour FUP limitations again?

May I know did Maxis Fibre actually throttle the download speed from file hosting site? I am currently at 300Mbps plan but every time I download files from OneDrive or Google Drive, the download speed is very bad not hitting 20MB/s. Suppose 300Mbps could achieve download speed of above 30MB/s.

Previously before moving out, I was using Unifi 300Mbps (at old house) and the download speed is always full at around 30MB/s but now I am using Maxis Fibre and having this issue. When I tried to turn on VPN, the download speed can go higher but due VPN I still unable to achieve 30MB/s but at least better than with no VPN.

In general, with no VPN on, download speed for files from OneDrive is around 5MB/s and files from Google Drive is around 14MB/s. This is weird.
