Yes, I’m sick of Unifi vomiting packet loss and high ping on me almost every night. Will be switching soon. Planned to go my local Maxis center last week but something came up, so hopefully I can find time this week or the next.

I hope Maxis give me a physical transfer request form so that I can head straight to a TM Point after that, because I’ve read a few bad stories about TM delaying the transfer if you leaves it to them to contact you for confirmation. Don’t want to go through the hassle of writing a complaint to MCMC in order to expedite the switch.

Just checked the Maxis site and they seem to have lowered some of the add-on prices as well, particularly for TVs. Hopefully can snag one that I want.

May I ask what state you’re based in, just so I can get a rough idea of relative latency based on your proximity to those servers? Thanks.

Couple more questions from someone planning to switch from TM UniFi to Maxis Fiber;

1. Maxis will use the same BTU that was supplied by TM, right? How is the BTU warranty handled after the switch? Do Maxis take over the so called “lifetime warranty” for the BTU, or will I need to pay out of own pocket if it malfunctions in future?

2. With regards to reporting faults or connection troubleshooting, do they have a helpline, and is it responsive? I don’t use social media. Also, if using Maxis on TM infra, will contacting Maxis be enough or will I need to ping-pong back and forth between Maxis and TM technicians?

Contacted agent today. Switching to Maxis for my family home. Even if they follow TM and block DoT/DoH domains (which I hope they won’t, but always expect the worst, because Malaysia Boleh Bodoh) at least their packet flow to my SG VPN servers seems more stable during peak hours compared to the hell I’ve been going through with Unifi recently. Fingers crossed. Hope I didn’t jinx it. Now I need to get a router. Hopefully some good deals during 9.9

If switching from Unifi to Maxis Fibre (500Mbps), will they let me keep the old white Huawei box (EchoLife HG8240H GPON Terminal printed on underside label) or will they replace it?

My understanding is that the installer will just plug a CAT cable into a different port on the old Huawei and attach their Maxis Kaon thing (which I plan to replace with an Asus unit anyway), but it’s possible my knowledge is outdated already.

I did walk in initially. The person attending to me knew nothing. Just repeated what I already learned from the website. Also had to scan some stupid QR for number, so now my phone probably infected with Pegasus also. At least agent offered me 3 months free. Maxis staff just offered me sour face.

Well this is strange. Maxis installation completed just now. Supposedly 500mbps (on unifi infra) but look what I’m getting. This is from the e-waste Kaon router some more.

Could it be due to my old Unifi being 800mbps? Might drop back down to sub-500mbps once the TM side turns off my Unifi?

Anyhooz, time to get replace the Kaon with a proper router.

It’s my biggest fear with Maxis honestly (or any provider riding on a different provider’s infra). With TM, you wake up each morning and hope for decent performance at night. For Maxis (on TM infra) you go to bed and pray you still have internet the next morning. sweat.gif wacko.gif

Got my Public IP configured earlier today. Simple process. 10 minutes on the phone kao dim. They won’t ask you what you plan to do with it. Get your RM10.60 they happy already. laugh.gif

Do Maxis users need to play the “IP pool lottery” like Unifi users do? I always seem to get 121.122.xx.xx or 121.123.xx.xx and performance has, for the most part, been decent. Just curious. I’m not living full-time in the house with Maxis so I’m thinking of scheduling automated reboot cycles for that particular router. Previously on Unifi I avoided rebooting the old router as much as possible (outside firmware updates) for fear of losing a ‘good’ IP prefix and would ssh into it to clear caches instead. I’m assuming I no longer have to worry about that with Maxis?

Must confess I didn’t really explore the Kaon for very long. May have been able to perform better if I played with the channels and other settings, but “out-of-the-box” it was pretty bad and the far lower spec Asus AX59u I replaced it with managed better performance/coverage with the 5Ghz band. Alas, I kind of semi-bricked the Kaon by playing with some of the DHCP toggles and promptly lost interest, did a factory reset, and put it in the box it came with. sweat.gif laugh.gif

Might be a case of decent hardware (although RAM is low for that level of chipset) being hamstrung by whatever dodgy software overlay Maxis/Kaon put on top of OpenWRT, typical of many ISP issued routers. puke.gif

Anyone else experiencing performance degradation at this time? Happened last night as well. F#ck, just as I was recovering from all the trauma Unifi caused me over the years, now Maxis turn is it?
