I have been using this method for past several months. It works well on a Technicolor TG784n v3. However, TG784n v1 does not have bridge mode + voip. My parents home is still using a v1 modem.
Does anyone know how to modify vlan tagging on a fiberhome BTU?? I have the password to telnet it, but couldn't figure out how to modify the vlan tagging via cmd. If possible, I would like to avoid chaining from BTU -> technicolor -> my router. I would prefer direct connect from my router to technicolor QUOTE(hus2020 @ Dec 29 2015, 12:32 PM) Hi Just to share. Anyone wanting to dial maxis fiber home with a custom router like TPLink etc but still need to maintain telephone line (VOIP) can do this : This post has been edited by darthobiguan: Jan 2 2016, 11:34 PM1) Set maxis Thompson Gateway to Bridge Mode + Voip 2) Program your custom router to Pppoe and key in your maxis fiber username password. 3) Connect both WAN ports of Custom Router and Maxis Thompson router to a 5port network switch. 4) Connect the switch to the BTU Lan 2(Huawei or Alcatel) This way, your custom router will dial the Internet connection and all port forwarding and other management is done with it. Maxis Thompson router will just function as sip gateway for your telephone line to work. Try it and report here if it works. P/s: There are ways to modify BTU by adjusting vlan tagging but I think it only works for Huawei ones. For Alcatel the method I propose works best. Try for yourself |

Guys,
Are you guys running on IPv6 already on your maxis connection? I am not talking about 6to4 or 6in4 or any sort of tunnelling. I am talking about native ipv6. I tried but not successful. I am using TP-Link Archer C7. Some guys at this form seems to be able to have native ipv6 on their maxis. https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3862698/+40 |

Read a lot of upgrades from 100mbps to 300mbps here. Maxis called me a couple of days ago but was busy that that time. Promised me to call me later but didn't. Is the upgrade from 100mbps to 300mbps no extra charge and price monthly still remain the same? My BTU is 100mbps only. No renewal of contract?

Anyone who has a unused spare desktop lying around, with 2 LAN ports and decent amount of memory (like 3gb and above), you can convert it to become a firewall/router with an enterprise grade Sophos SG Firewall Home edition. They give a free 3 years license for home users with almost same functionality as enterprise users. Once 3 years license is almost up, you can renew it for another 3 years. The difference between enterprise and free is that it only support up to 50 LAN IPs, and is not for commercial use. Performance will definately be inferior compared to their enterprise version (due to hardware difference) but good enough to support my 100mbps with like 4-5 users at my home.
If you happened to be an IT guy, this might be easy to moderate challenge to set up. If you aren't an IT guy, I would suggest to stick to the wifi/router that comes with your ISP. Note : You would still need a wifi router set up a bridge mode for wifi connectivity. You would lose the VoIP phone capability. You get enterprise firewall capabilities like : Enterprise Firewall filtering Network Intrusion Prevention System Advance Threat Protection Web filtering (eg blocking pornography, video streaming, adblocker) with AV Scanning VPN Site to Site (tested with Archer v5c, Cisco FW, Checkpoint FW) VPN Remote Dial-in Web Application Firewall Link Load Balancer Reporting services (eg. bandwidth use, who goes to what website) OSPF, BGP Routing Multicast routing (PIM Sparse Mode) Bandwith Shaping IPv6 I do see that it can support 3G dongle but have never tested it myself cause I don't have one. You can apply the license and download the ISO installation file from here. https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-...me-edition.aspx This post has been edited by darthobiguan: Sep 12 2019, 01:06 AM |

It is not really your TM ONU kaput. Most likely it is an older model where the LAN ports are only 10/100mbps. You need to upgrade it to a higher speed one which supports 10/100/1000mbps. Anyway it is maxis responsibility to deal with TM, not us.
QUOTE(wong_86 @ Mar 17 2022, 04:56 PM) Today Maxis technician come to installation, find out the TM ONU kaput, Ethernet speed cannot reach over 100mbps, need to wait both technician to come Maxis technician told me to call Unifi technician to replace ONU, but tm customer service agent ask me to go TMPoint......WTF.....how ah now ? let Maxis to deal with this issue ? |

Homeplugs will negotiate the best speed possible over your electrical lines. The distance and electrical noise your electrical line have, the slower it will be. If you purchased a pair of AV1300 rated homeplug (which I did), do not expect a perfect 1300mbps connection. In my case, I get around 200-250mbps. The distance is upper floor to lower floor, single phase. At the moment, I am considering pulling a network CAT6 cable from upper floor to lower floor. I would always prefer wired solutions over wireless whenever possible as it offers consistency, lower latency and predictability.
Also, some lower end homeplugs (e.g. TP-Link AV600) come with a 10/100mbps network port which certainly causes bottleneck. Make sure you don't own those. QUOTE(A573154 @ Apr 11 2022, 04:25 PM) |

QUOTE(ucopmok @ Jun 23 2023, 04:02 PM) Im not fully well verse in IT , so meaning when using VPN , its supposed to limit my speed. I cannot use my fiber speed to its max. 100 is the best it can pump out. This is essentially how VPN works... Rather than the guy drinking directly from the coconut, the guy route the straw thru the lady, which in turn, route to the coconut. From the coconut perspective, the lady is drinking it, not the guy.![]() QuantumEdge liked this post
