If you need VOIP, DSL-D2452DG is a good replacement for thompson router.
If you don't need VOIP, you can get any router that support Unifi/Maxis.
*
How's the performance of the DSL-D2452DG so far?
Can it fully replace the Thomson router and also able to use VOIP? Can we also put a Google DNS ? I hear that it's not possible in the Thomson router.

Anyone having problem with movie streaming?
Speed test and you tube is perfect. Only movie streaming is not working. Disappointed.

It does exist, don’t give the wrong advice. Your advice is valid though for bridging the Maxis router just for VoIP, but if you don’t want to do that, see below for  alternative router replacement that have the RJ11 phone port:

1) https://www.lazada.com.my/latest-d-link-3x9...7a8ed5YmSb&mp=1

2) https://www.lazada.com.my/d-link-ac1200-2x9...7a8ed5YmSb&mp=1

Up to you which one you would choose but I recommend the second option. Good luck.
*
From the Q&A in Lazada, the first option doesn't support VoIP it seems.

My bad bro, you are right. Only the second option does support VoIP, unfortunately.
*
Can you recommend me good router bro? I need good WiFi coverage and stability for a typical double storey terrace.

There Is only one single D-link model with VoIP feature, hence, i have to give this a pass and I have to explore other options.

As VoIP is important for me, I need the free unlimited calls, I need to keep the technicolor router as a bridge and use better routers for WiFi.

Is the Archer C7 v4 a good choice or is there a comparable asus model? Budget rm400 to rm500. Can the technicolour be bridged to this router for VoIP?

Yeah..I have the VoIP. Do you think I can fix the issue if I got an AC wifi extender?
*
The thing is, if we use a wifi extender or a powerline, yes, you'll get signal coverage in that area BUT it will create a new SSID.

So, when you move between areas, you have to manually connect to the strongest SSID as your client device i.e. ipad, iphone or android doesn't automatically switch to the strongest signal. It still maintains connection to the router/extender even though the signal is poor. This is the cumbersome part.

On windows notebooks/laptops you can adjust the roaming aggressiveness to auto switch to the strongest signal but not on smartphones or tablets.

Not true. Some powerline doesn't create new SSID. I am using TP-Link TL-WPA4530 and it's proven. smile.gif
*
I disagree.
I'm using TP-LINK WPA8630.
It has a feature to clone the WiFi of your router but it still creates a second SSID using the same name as your router SSID.
So you will basically have 2 SSID of the same name.
The devices only hand over to the nearest WiFi powergrid when the signal level of the distant router is very very low, if it's still not low enough it still remains connected to a distant router.
The only way to solve this with seamless WiFi roaming is to use a mesh WiFi system. If you're not ready to invest in mesh WiFi, you will I have to manually switch to the strongest signal yourself or use a tool such as Swifi - but it's only available for android

Very wrong!

My friend who I help to register much later than me, already get the tplink router, he is upgrading from 10Mbps to 30Mbps

If maxis tell me Aminia or Technicolor, I told them kaninia, f u!

And I'll throw the Tecnicolor router onto their face!

Why so much hatred and vengeance. Be patient and chill down a bit la.

i am also upgrading to 30M and they told me will get the tp link.

On fire bro!

Register on the first day 20/8 on 9.30pm, help my friend register a few hours later.

My friend got a call on 4/9, and router changed on 8/9

So u think why I need to pay rm30 more for 3 times lower speed?

Why first come not first serve? Why last come sever first?

And I calll Maxis for the past 7 days yet no one calling me

Email Maxis for more than 5 days not answering me

If you're me, you very happy lah, is it?
*
You are still in contract with the old price so nothing wrong legally paying the old price until you jump into a new 24 month contract with the new rm89 per month price. Some people get it early, some a little late, there is no first come first serve thingy here.

Last time unifi also upgraded my 5M to 10M, it took them long time although I was quite early to opt in.

So have you hired a lawyer? Would love to hear from you more about how the legal proceeding is going on.

No offence, if I'm you I'll just be patient and wait for that call.

for pure speed, go for unifi. they usually give you a bit more than  what you are subbed. my bro with 500mbps got 530mbps, another bro with 300mbps got 320mbps. me with maxis 30mbps got 27+, at 100mbps got 98+. never exceed.
*
I've been constantly testing my maxis 30mbps since it got upgraded. I have been getting on average a consistent speed of 35mbps each time I test. So I believe maxis also gives slightly more than what we asked for.

So, basically I just installed a Sonoff IP cam.
I called Maxis and got myself a public IP address.
TM modem -> TP-Link Archer C5v -> TP-Link Deco P7.

I setup port forwarding on both routers.

The CCTV IP cam is viewable from my mobile phone on public network - No problem at all here.

My only concern here is how long will this last until the public IP address is renewed?

Are there any 100% free DDNS services out there which doesn't require you to confirm hostname every 30 days?

My Deco P7 is a new router, it has TP-Link DDNS service but the problem is it is connected to the Maxis C5v router.

I cannot get rid of the C5v as family members make use of the phone (connected to the C5v) to make Voice calls. Will setting the C5v to bridge mode make the phone unusable?

Any suggestions appreciated.

I believe public ip is fixed, it will not changed from time to time.
Since you need the VOIP, there is no way to get rid of stock router.
Suggest you turned of wifi on stock router for better stability.
*
I really hope so, if the public ip is fixed, then all well and good.

My CCTV IP cam is still working fine when I tested from the public network today.

Only time will tell if they renew the lease. If this happens it's gonna be a pain in the a$$ to reenter the new ip in my app each time this happens..

yeah i turned off the wifi on the stock router. i'm using a mesh network with the Deco P7. Wifi coverage is good and the devices auto switches to the nearest deco seamlessly so it always gets the best signal.

anyway thanks for the response mate thumbsup.gif

**Edit: I just found out that the P7 also has DDNS. I tested it and it works so I believe this should resolve the lease renewal issue. Hope it continues working. smile.gif

Asus does provide a free DDNS but you have buy their router to use the free service sad.gif

I just discovered that TP-Link also has free DDNS. I tested it today and it appears to be working. Let's hope it's really free and no catches. So far so good. smile.gif

I just received a call from Maxis (or their agent) offering me a free Samsung 65" 4K TV if I signed up Maxis Home Fibre with 500Mbps and above plan. I just need to pay RM1 for the TV. I am currently a Unifi user with 1 year left in my contract. They even offer to pay up to RM500 of my penalty fee if I terminate my Unifi account now.

Can someone confirm if anyone else also received this kind of offer from Maxis?
*
I received a call today from TM today. She asked me if I'm experiencing slow speeds at night. I simply just said yes, although I never really felt that.

The lady then mentioned the slow speed is due to TM has upgraded their infra and she said do you know that your Maxis is actually riding on TM and I said yeah, I know that. To get the 'best speed' I should use unifi.

She then went on saying if I switched to Unifi they can maintain the same price and on top of that they will give me a Sharp 42 inch Full HD TV. I thought to myself, we are now talking about 4k or even 8k, why are you still mentioning FHD. Personally I thought that could very well be a 4K TV. I was tempted to switch over but then I told her I still needed my free unlimited calls using my fixed line. I'm currently paying additional RM10 for this. She said TM doesn't have such offer and I told her I'm not interested as much a I wanted that TV.

Just completed my TR submission to switch to Unifi from Maxis, They offered me free 6 Months while retaining the same package price
*
I went to TM Point this morning.
The guy said the free 6 months is only applicable if you chose the RM129 per month (100mbps). Meaning Month 1 - 6 is free. Month 7 onwards, you pay RM129 per month. Average, it will be RM96.75 per month.
Alternatively, you may pay RM89 per month from Month 1 onwards. You do not get any free 6 months if you choose this option. I went for this option.
I double checked with an agent and he said the same thing, except he offers 6 + additional 2 months free. You start paying the RM129 per month on month 9 onwards for the remaining 16 months. Average it out it is RM86 per month.

Did you got counter-offer from maxis too?  tongue.gif  whistling.gif
*
haha yeah, i went to maxis centre and got countered.

I do not need the 100mbps from TM.

I feel my current maxis 30mbps package is just nice for my requirement. maxis 30mbps package has 30mbps upload, where else TM's 30mbps (rahmah package) offers 10mbps upload. as I upload documents from home to office, maxis is better in this aspect. their voice add on for rm10 is also good, free unlimited calls to any network better than TM's offering if you use the DECT phone.
