Unsubscribe to Public IP -- just  simple call to the CS and update your own router username.
Save RM10.00

I wonder telcos will offer even lower fibre broadband moving forward ?

WANT to subscribe.
It's done. Happy to see router getting public IP and not CGNAT shit.

I want to save RM 10, so I'm cancelling the public IP. laugh.gif Since I'm already on my own router, what should I do? I totally forgot what I have done earlier when I shifted to the current Asus router. laugh.gif
*
Yesterday, staff asked me to switch username in order to start using public IP.
from id@home.maxis.com.my
to id@public.maxis.com.my

so, in your case, probably the revese of that?

you need to call the CS first... they will change their side, then you change your router end.
Poof..slower Internet

QUOTE(fruitie @ Mar 8 2023, 04:40 PM)
Yeah, for sure need to call CS.
Slower Internet. sad.gif If slower then I will pay RM 10 for it. laugh.gif

Won't be that notice-ably slow laah. Just another 1024+ R&R through CGNAT hoops and loops whistling.gif

not sure - will it outright connect with @home.maxis.com.my username? maybe you can test it out without unsubscribing

my observation;
before change, @home assigns CGNAT IP to WAN interface.
right after change; @public assigns public IP to WAN interface.

i think no issue to change only that word to @home to test out.
that is the only change I (effectively) did anyway.

(but i have the password as well, recorded from time fibre was installed.)

I've yet to receive the email or SMS about charging that RM10 on public ip, but if they really billed me for it... probably going to unsub
Asus instant guard still requires public ip?

I have received two emails. The first one is a blast email and second one is a reminder email.

This add-on made an appearance AFTER I subscribed to public IP (last week). Before, that area is an empty space in my MyMaxis, so I can't say how it should look like if you never subscribed to, OR, if you are no longer subscribing.

After switched to private ip, now when i ssh remote into my servers on cloud, always stuck or disconnected after idle just a while. sighs....

Set "UseDNS no" on /etc~ssh/sshd_config, or equivalent.
(i cannot post actual path, seems like cloudflare borks when i put /etc/ssh/...)

This parameter controls whether server-side executes reverse DNS lookup to determine hostname of the IP that you are connecting from. Of course it will be faster to check the identity of public IP as opposed to check the identity of CGNAT you are jumping through (if that even make sense, but please, just say you understand it).

google CAPTCHA nothing to do with SSH ... but most probably to do with shared CGNAT-ed public IP.

don't know how many subscribers are hidden behind your shared CGNAT-ed public IP.
including shady, dubious, hanky-panky subscribers whistling.gif

Maxis have Huawei LG8245X6-10 and Kaon AR2140.

(1) Those who experienced both; which is better? Feature-wise? Signal-wise? Or they are comparable same?

(2) Kaon AR2140 supports how many SSIDs? (LG8245X6-10 supports 3 possible SSIDs for each band 2.4GHz and band 5GHz).

(2) If I sign up for MaxPerts subscription, will I get same as existing LG8245X6-10, or possible to get Kaon AR2140 instead?

intended use: as additional nodes for existing LG8245X6-10 2.4GHz mesh with 50 odd smart home WiFi devices, and expanding. i find that now using 3 nodes and shorter DHCP expiry has enabled the devices to remain connected and online, as opposed to having only 2 nodes with devices goes whack-a-mole "now you see it, now you don't". still seeing 1 or 2 specific devices acting up...which is better than having up to 10 random devices acting up at random times.

Hi, I've terminated my maxis and replaced with unifi on 19 February. So I've called Maxis after the installation day of Unifi on the same day to terminate my account. Then the cs said that only after 10 days the account will automatically deactivated. Then I've received latest bill from 21 feb to 1 march although I no longer use maxis. Are this the correct procedure?

i believe i've read before, not specific to maxis->unifi.

in general, there will be a short period of time where you will have concurrent "running" of both fibre service and get billed accordingly. something like the party A won't release you until party B confirm already switched, or something like along that line. you don't want your port to accidentally be released by one party before the other party had finished taking it up, right?

Basically private IP is double NAT, which will be slow compare to public IP.

For routing between double NAT, I'm not sure how the double NAT routing work.
*
Just imagine if this is your intranet, you are putting a NAT router behind NAT router behind NAT router (repeat as many times you like) between your end device and the Internet.

Of course, each routing layer will incur additional ms.
Add-on more ms for the NAT funtion to do de/translation.

Guess I will py RM10 for public IP to keep my sanity.

sounds like you have built an ecosystem all the while on public IP.
and that ecosystem didn't failover gracefully when additional layer of NAT is introduced.
maybe you need to review your previous set up and configuration.

Maxis called me to offer replace my current router with newer model "Wifi 6" router. Said that my pre-existing Huawei LG8245X6-10 is older model.

She said the new model is also Huawei and EasyMesh, which I can look up at Maxis website.
But when I look at the site before, can only see the Kaon model being touted, and I doubt it's Huawei....

Also, since I have no guarantee that the alleged newer model (i) is better in terms of functionality compared to older, and (ii) I recently spent to buy 4th node of the old model, I declined the offer to upgrade (and another 24mth lockdown).

If free then why not, the wifi 6 really did improved a lot compared to my archer c5.
*
because i have bought additional Easymesh nodes that matches my existing Huawei router model. And I have the top-most admin login so I can configure as I need.
The last thing I want is replace with an unknown Kaon router with unknown level of configurability.
Maxis staff say new one is "Huawei" as well as shown on website, but where is this new Huawei featured? All i see is the unknown Kaon.
And, this the time to lock people on old prices, before they announce revision post MSAP reduction.

the root password is floating around somewhere in the forums for that Kaon
not sure on how good/reliable it is but there is a rant thread in this forum thats kinda far back now

easymesh is an open standard, regardless of brand, can connect.
*
The LG8246X6-10 is surprisingly feature-packed, that's why I just don't want to gamble with possibility of it being replaced by (expectedly inferior) Kaon.

I did ask before the features of Kaon but nobody answered.

If there is a complain about LG8245X6-10, is that the LAN and DHCP is limited to /24 subnet; I cannot grow it to /23. And, only 16 entries for static DHCP.

As for Easymesh, the LG8245X6-10 can create 3 SSID each for 2.4GHz and for 5GHz; total of 6 distinct SSIDs.
I'm not sure if other brand and/or model can actually match that number of SSIDs. I have 2.4GHz SSIDs set up, each for smart HA switch, for smart HA socket, and another for anything else smart HA.
