how bad is his HD?
if i've read correctly, your JD should only be a few months old. if so, no one can confirm HD unless an x-ray shot has been taken to confirm it!

it could be signs that COULD lead to HD. if that's the case, put him on glucosamine supplements. and watch his weight. he shouldn't be too heavy. and at the same time, you do not want to malnurious him. glucosamine will be a life-long thingy. and you should start him on glucosamine as soon as possible.

if you keep him indoors, shave his paws regularly. leave him with super short fur on his paw pad. if you shave too bald, he might bleed when out for walks and get infections.

you can also try to discourage HD. if your dog is sleeping like a suckling pig, correct him. shift his backside to one side and let him lay on his side-buttocks.

if the HD is severe, there are ways to correct it. read this for surgery methods. note that in Malaysia, there are only successful cases of Femoral Head Removal surgery. if possible, get some Aussie surgeons to look into your case. many vets have visiting surgeons from Australia now. do check with your vet.

Thx for your information filet0fish. For your information my Vet din take any x-ray, he just touch my dog hip and ankle den say he got HD. Then he told me he should reduce weight for 2 weeks and give him less movement for the 1st week then onli bring him to walk on the 2nd week. After that he told me to go back for check up 2 weeks later and give me 2 kind of pills one is Coatex another is Synoquin(dunno whether its the correct spelling or not). He also said that if there is improvement den there's no nit to operate. Maybe i should demand a x-ray to be taken. According to him as well before my dog go for x-ray he have to take some kind of injection. Is it true?

Any of u guyz pet have HD b4? How u guyz deal with it? Haiz feel so down right now.. sad.gif

i'm not too sure which vet you go to. but basically, yes, true. HD can come genetically, and can be caused by our flooring.
unless your vet has x-ray vision, i would not say that he has done a perfect job at identifying HD problems.

HD cannot be cured just by taking supplements and pills. HD can only be corrected surgically.

i'm not too sure what coatex is, but searching from the internet, coatex is for coat and fur. that has NOTHING to do with HD!

Synoquin is one of the best supplements for joints problems. it reduces the PAIN! Synoquin is the brand of the supplements. it contains both glucosamine and chondroitin to produce joints fluids for your dog. it produces more joints fluids for your dogs to make their movement less painful. THAT'S ALL! it is a supplement and not a medicine to cure. and joints problems here also means arthritis.

if your dog hurts when walking and/or jumping, and especially having a hard time trying to get up after his sleep, that could be signs of HD. because the femoral head is dislocated from the hip socket, your dog will find it painful to move after a long rest. hence, the supplements to produce more of these joint fluids help them move less painful.

HD is not a weekly or monthly problem. it is a lifelong problem. hence, we need to give continue to give them glucosamine supplements to help them. and the proper way of introducing glucosamine to your dog is to double the dosage daily for the first month, and then have him on maintenance mode for the rest of his life.

when your vet says "improvement", i believe he means if your dog moves with less pain. that means that glucosamine is working. but surgical correction is still recommended if the case is a severe case. and supplements should be continued!

Synoquin will cost around RM300 for 120 tablets/capsules. if you can't afford it, you can also give JD Ark Natural's Joint Rescue which will cost you around RM80 for 90 chewables. you can try other brands, but i suggest sticking to one for at least 6 months before trying something else. in general, glucosamine is good to maintain joints for even an healthy dog.

yes, you dog must be sedated to have his x-ray taken. the docs will have to stretch his legs straight in order to get a clear picture of his hips and legs joints. an awaken dog will not lay quietly to let the docs take that shot.

erm.. acid_head, i would suggest you read up a bit more on what x-rays are for for general knowledge. you can even learn more about it through medical tv series like House MD, ER or Grey's Anatomy.

and for your info, HD is a bone/joints problem.

YES, huskies are extremely friendly despite their "fierce look"!

I was told huskies never bark too, they howl instead. But somehow, it seems that our Mr Kenzo (Husky) learns to bark like our Maya (Mongrel) while our Maya learns to howl like our Kenzo. doh.gif
