What you have to do is to get the MMIP form filled and signed and pay the premium to the insurance company which sounds simple but I experienced some issues with NCB transfer and had to apply for half day off to get it done myself.
But nonetheless it can be done by a runner, most important bit is the form and signature.
EDIT : Also your car should only be eligible for Third Party Coverage as it's not under Hire Purchase anymore just some additional information. So you're only covered for the damage done to the third party and not to your own car if any bad thing happens.
