Konnichiwa~
Going to Japan next month.
Could use some suggestion on the itinerary:

Day 1: Reach Tokyo at night
Day 2: Train to Yokohama day trip.
Day 3: Train to Kamakura & Enoshima day trip
Day 4: Nikko
Day 5: Nikko
Day 6: Disneyland
Day 7: Disneysea
Day 8: Tokyo
Day 9: Tokyo (Free & easy)
Day 10: Depart Tokyo

Wanted to travel to Osaka/Nagoya but seems like way too far from Tokyo.
No point going to Sapporo in May.

So we will be sticking around Tokyo only.

I like your plan. Your plan is current 2015 the best From my view.
But Day 4 or 5 reduce 1 day at Nikko put in Hakone will even best.

i'm planning to settle down in minato area.

not sure to stay near shinagawa or shiodome.

hotels/ryokan near shinagawa seems to have crazy human traffic due to the proximity to the train station. but travelling is made easier.

shiodome is nearer to ginza i guess and should offer plenty of food options?

Ginza are Japan most high class area. All high class restraurant. Extremly expensive.

Shinagawa are one of Major Station for interchange trains.  You also got plan going Kamakura. Shinagawa better option.

thanks sensei

Chain restaurants and some can accept suica.
*

Most ramen shops with vending machines accept Suica, and by saying that most vending machines do. Convenient shops all accept Suica, even some shops like Don Quijote.

ohaiyo..

is it that the suica usage will be like our touchngo?

first time going to japan.. very nervous~

Yes, it is just like our Touch N Go, an IC Card. Just tap on the IC reader (you won't get it wrong) and walk past the barrier (for trains and subs). For vending machines, you tap first for the machine to check balance, then with whatever balance for what you can buy, those buttons will it up and you just press what you want.

For buying things in convenience stores or other shops, just let the cashier know you wanted to pay by Suica, they will activate the IC reader and ask you to tap on it to pay.

Generally it saves a lot of hassle for preparing coins especially at vending machines and stores. And if you don't plan on bringing it back as souvenir, just return it and get back your deposit (make sure you spend all of your credits so that only deduct whatever is left as processing, and you still get back your 500yen deposit).

For me since I wanted to bring it back (as I will be going again), I make a MY Suica at the machines with names printed on it.

For train u didnt take tokyo pass?
*
it seems there are 2 pass we need to get, if we get the pass.
tokyo metro pass, and jr east pass.

furthermore we will not be travelling extensively using the train.
so i figured using suica/pasmo will be cheaper.

2nd day in Tokyo..

i) Expect long queue in good restaurant. Well it is always worth the wait.

ii) Most japanese store workers do not really speak english well, have to struggle to explain what we are looking for. jr train station staff can speak english well and very helpful.

iii) Train is everywhere, same track 2 different train just separated by 2 minutes. Have to look at the signboard real carefully before knowing which train to board.
