I asked the same question like you before I go to Japan.

Now, I'm back from Japan, touched down Malaysia last week.

Well, if you are so concern, then you better don't go, if you want to go, just go ahead.

sifus, if hunting for snow in march and not wanting to go for ski-ing. more for onsen in snow. is Minakami the right place to go? or by end of march, the snow would be all gone?

Minakami seems to very accessible through Tokyo.Thats why that pops out.

thanks!
*
During the latter half of March you will still see snow in Ainokura, Takayama and Shirakawa-go.
You should also be able to find plenty of snow in Unazuki Onsen town (Shin-Kurobe Station on Hokuriku Shinkansen, then Toyama Regional Railway to Unazuki Onsen).

http://www.kurobe-unazuki.jp/en

Because of heavy snow, Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route and Kurobe Gorge Railway won't be open in end of March. It only opens after mid April.

This is Ainokura :
