normal to have highest end of one range to be same price as lower end of a higher range.

I'll take reference GTX 970 over custom cooler GTX 960 any day.

If you guys look at the memory configuration the GTX 960's memory bandwidth is much reduced compared to GTX 760.

Not surprised to see the people complaining are also people who don't use resolutions higher than 4k and does not utilize 4GB VRAM. biggrin.gif

They could've just stick to 3GB instead.

The GTX 970 doesn't work too well on 4k reso anyway.

While I agree, there are also some legit complaints from users not on 4k or beyond. There are users who are playing at 1440p and also using SLI 970s, 1440p can indeed breech the 3.5GB VRAM. SLI or not, a game is a stutter fest after that. It's not the average FPS, it's the frametime.
ehhh typo there on my post - actually I was supposed to type 2K / Full HD. tongue.gif

SLI users would be the minority, of which I think they will often be using at 4K but whether it goes beyond 3K VRAM would depend on the game and setting, DA:I at Ultra settings should be one of those few titles that take up VRAM.

Regardless of the situation, I'm having fun with the GALAX GTX 970 HOF!

cool like silly, so tempting to spend RM 1649 on it!

The looks alone already make it nicer than the rest. When you hold it, it's rock solid. I had so much fun overclocking that baby and I'm surprised to see I get 10 fps gain from the overclock without trying too hard.

Rarely I come across any card that even allows one to overclock much, let alone gain 5fps.

RM1649....

Better spend RM2000 straight for GTX 980, better future proofing as it have no VRAM problems and actually have higher memory bandwidth.

GTX 970 is overated if it is priced too near GTX 980. From RM1099 till RM1649. Better get the cheaper range GTX 970.
you know, there are people who pay $$$ to get stuff that looks good and OCs kau kau to be top of the 3Dmark list and such.

This is the card that you pay and get good stuff.

You can look at those RM 1,499 GTX 970 that's already ridiculously priced - those types you get great heatsink but no guarantee to OC well. Power draw is also limited.

Personally I wouldn't recommend this to the average consumer either BUT it's a great card and only a niche group of people will consider it.

But no matter how much you overclock the GTX 970, it still can't beat overclocked GTX 980  sweat.gif

Take a look on the Unigine Heaven's benchmark for example, an overclocked reference GTX980 can break 1900 points on 1080p, while 1577Mhz GTX 970 just slightly passed 1600. That's a huge difference worth the extra investment. Don't forget that GTX 980 have full 4GB VRAM access too.
biggrin.gif they are those who want to be on top of the 3D Mark list for the particular range of graphic card la.

Question is, WHEN does AAA games start supporting DX12? This year? I doubt it. I believe all this ties back into developing on consoles as well, to achieve "parity".
Going to be a long time.

Windows 10 needs to be released first.

Yes in between was using gtx970, previous setup was a cfx 270x
150w vs 2x 180w. biggrin.gif

that also depends on how often you run it.

If you play games like 2 hours a day, the difference on bill would be negligible.

TDP != power draw

Interestingly nVidia stats 120w for GTX 960 and I managed to get the card to reach of exceed 120w power draw.

AMD on the other hand, if it's a 250w TDP card, takes me so much effort and I can't psu hit to 250w. sad.gif My R9 280X + R9 280X + FX-9590 configuration I expect 250w + 250w + 200w = 700w, with wall draw around 800w but want to breach 600w wall draw also difficult. biggrin.gif

Eh curious how you managed to max out the powerdraw of the card. Nvidia has better driver api to max the performance of their card ever since the wonder driver.. You need to account for that
I run Furmark Burn In test.

Going by my watt reader and my calculation it seems so. nVidia site may say it is 120w but as you know many cards are OCed and the fan on the cooler draws some power too.

Always looking to improve my calculation and methodology. PSU load test tool near impossible to acquire in Malaysia so next best option is to run based on consumer setup.

Looks like it is less resource hogging when compared to FRAPS.

What's the recorded video size? The ones from FRAPS is huge which is a problem when one games on SSD.

size caused by duration goes without saying.

I'm just curious of the size per second. The size from FRAPS really hogs drive space.

time to get myself a GTX 970. Have to try AMD's Raptr too, see how's the recording.
