If don't want to waste much money, use the HU to power the tweeters, is the tweeters comes with capacitors? If not, is better that you buy a pair of it to 'cut' down the bass input to the tweeters.
For the capacitor value, can try <10uf then <20uf depends on your prefrence. This post has been edited by jojo902156: Sep 27 2006, 09:24 AM |

caps are to protect them... my suggestion is to install them to ensure your tweeter life span is longer...
and no they will never cause any problem... This post has been edited by craziechild: Oct 7 2006, 12:15 AM |

The caps are to reduce its bass to the tweeters. If tweeter is powered direct from HU, all kinds of sound(treble, mid, bass) will pass thru it, if turn to loud volume, tweeter will blow very fast.

Don't care red or white, black or red, the most important part is +ve and -ve. The cap should installed on +ve side, it can be near to tweeter or far. If the tweeter already gor a cap installed, just leave it, if DIY, you have to try few ratings.

Usually, get a pair of 22uf non-polarised caps, these are more expensive than electrolytic polarised caps. These caps act as a passive high pass filter which filters out low frequency sounds. Low frequency = approaching DC = bad for your tweeter. Usually cheap tweeters come with polarised caps which is not really good on audio applications.

Anyway where is Jalan Pasar? I heard there got alot of gadgets selling. Polarised or not I not sure, but always go for caps with +ve and -ve with the wordings of XXufXXv. If scare the cap are too loud, can add a bulb to control the power input, rating around 1-2v.

Yes, if got passive XO, then the cap you won't need it, as the component set is built with their 'best' combination.
If power direct from HU, you still need the cap as output from HU is unfiltered signal. You still can use the tweeter, but it won't last long. |

QUOTE(MoNnY @ Oct 11 2006, 09:20 AM) if got passive crossover then no need cap right ? i think a single capacitor can be classified as a passive crossover, too as long as it is filtering the low freq part, so called high pass filter.if using component set, then should be ok if plug straight to HU right ? btw any1 can show me how the bypass capacitor looks like? i affraid i buy sth wrong from jalan pasar. the capacitor i usually buy is for electronic circuit 1 wo... those small small 1... hw am i gonna tell the shop keeper which kind of capacitor i need ?
