Can I know if I open an FD account with a particular bank - I would also need to open a SA to have the interest and FD amount to be credited when it matures (lets say 12 months) - and after that i withdraw all and want to close the account.. will I have to pay to close?

Hi all..
Can someone help clarify the steps to move funds for FD. For e.g. if I have RM50k in Maybank and want to open an FD with OCBC, I understand that I can use Rentas or Giro. But how does the account opening at OCBC work? Do I just walk into OCBD and ask to open an FD account with minimum amount and then go to Maybank to transfer (as I have the OCBC FD account number already)? Also, would I need to open a Savings account first with OCBC and then only open the FD account there?
Any information is apprciated. Thanks.

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Apr 18 2015, 07:51 PM) depends on banks.. but I think not consider as "fresh fund" QUOTE(cybpsych @ Apr 19 2015, 11:06 AM) Maybank Fixed Deposit (FD) JOY 3 Campaign5 March 2015 - 30 April 20151-2 months @ 3.55% p.a., 3rd month @ 4.55% p.a, effective 3.88% p.a. | RM25k fresh fund More info: Maybank | T&CsIf I have RM50,000 in e-FD and uplift it and go to the counter and ask to put in FD - this is considered fresh fund? or it must originate from outside the particular bank. Thanks!

If i am looking for FD for a year (12months) and if the promo from some banks e.g. UOB, CIMB and OCBC are all the same - the effective rate of 4.2% for a year - what are the considerations to pick btw them.
I know that these banks got certain elements to the promo - break down the interests rate (OCBC) or unfixed (CIMB) - but lets say i confirm keeping it for 12 months and I am only concerned abt the effective rate.
Is it just about the location/accessibility?

QUOTE(McFD2R @ May 8 2015, 05:44 PM) One area you may look at is whether the interest is given to you on a 6 mths basis or not. If it is, you won't have to wait till the end of 12 months for some of the intetesr. Maybe not because you need the money, but because the money given to you at the 6 months period can be reuse to further invest it. RM100k @ 4%pa will give you RM2k after 6 months. May not seem like much, but hey money is money QUOTE(gsc @ May 9 2015, 12:01 AM) 1) Fee charge for IBG or Rentas since we are playing musical chair. 2) Location especially if plan to withdraw as cash...prefer with car park within bank compound. 3) speed of service. Dont like bank with long waiting and processing time 4) limit on PIDM Thanks. good point to consider!
