Any good orthodontic recommend around kl area ?normally how much will cost for Damon braces.
*
Damon braces (Self-ligating braces) should around 5k -15k depending on metal/ceramic/gold/lingual etc...
I have asked around for awhile. . and it seems there is a standard price...

Go google search or read this forum to check for the orthondist near your area ...
It is best to look for the one near your area because you need to visit him/her regularly though out the treament period. ..
Set an appointment with the orthondist... He/she should be able to suggest what is the option for your treatment. .. Then only you will know the cost. ..

Let me share with you a story about this type of transfer case. The "victim" is my cousin.

The 1st ortho extracted 4 of her teeth and needs roughly 2 years time to remove the braces. But after one year wearing braces, the ortho stopped the biz and migrate to New Zealand.
The 2nd ortho took over the case and said that 2 teeth need to be extracted somemore from his point of view. And he advised my cousin to wear braces for another 2 years. My cousin was like @$#%##%!
But still, she accepted her fate in the end. She only left with 26 teeth now thumbup.gif Save toothpaste and save time brushing her teeth rclxm9.gif

Sometimes, I think our bracing thingy is more like a piece of artwork to ortho, very subjective to determine good or bad. As long as it lets you gain more self confidence after removing braces, for me it's good enough!

Anyway, no need to worry too much about this! It's just a story......

How does the 26 teeth change her life?? Beside the toothpaste and save time to brush her teeth tongue.gif
She chew longer then before?? biggrin.gif
I would think she has a slimmer face shape now .... thumbup.gif Am I rite??

Hi all! I think this question should be raised before but was just wondering whether you guys would share your opinion/experiences on impacted wisdom teeth and braces?

Because I took my braces off 4 years ago and noticed that recently, my lower front teeth are out of 'alignment'. Note that I took out my permanent retainer about a year ago.
I went back to the dentist who did my braces. We took an x-ray and he said that it was due to my growing wisdom teeth. He straight away asked me to extract three of them D:!
Then I went and consulted another dentist, he said that it was not necessary to extract them at all currently and said that impacted wisdom teeth can not cause the teeth to move. He said the reason it moved was due to the removal of my permanent retainers ._.

So guys, your opinion? Should I extract the wisdom teeth or just put on back the permanent retainers?
*
A friend of mine, she has not wear braces before. . having nice teeth alignment..
However, her wisdom tooth pushing her teeth frontward and causes one of her front teeth moving outward (Which look odd now) ..
Her dentist ask her to remove her wisdom tooth as soon as possible before it get worse..

For your case, I think the retainer will be able to control the force pushing out from your wisdom tooth..
But you will need to continue to wear it as long as you keep your wisdom tooth...
Question is do you need your wisdom tooth?

I am not a professional here.. maybe you will need to check with your dentist..
By removing the wisdom tooth, will you be able to get away with the retainer... I think this is something wise to find out...

Just 2 cent of thought. ..

I also get cut by braces. Put wax also wouldn't help, now I don't border & use to it already.
*
If it is a wire that come out from the bracket, use nail clipper to cut off the wire that poke your lips. ..
I learn from youtube.com

Im wondering, ive been reading, and did some research.

Damon seems to be the best brand for bracers with comfort, anyone had damons???

I know its expensive, but anything to reduce pain is always a welcome to burn a hole thru my pocket.
*
Hi OldKyoo,
I am wearing ceramic self-ligating damon and it cost me close to 8k++. ..
I am not sure if it is relatively comfortable than metal braces but it definately look much better. ..
So far, experience the wire scratches my inner lips (really painful and I hardly want to talk or eat)...
Perhaps it is something normal i guess. ..
Don't worry of the pain.. it is just temporary .. Just focus of having nice smile and healthier teeth after debrace. .. smile.gif

I'm 27 and currently using the Damon system.
I used to wear braces, about 3 years ago which were the traditional stainless steel one. I had this done in the UK.
Had it in for 2 years and then had a fixed metal retainer for my lower set of teeth and a plastic removable retainer for the upper set.
I lost my first retainer and it took about 2 to 3 weeks for me to get a replacement that by that time the teeth had moved. Then I became lazy and didn't use my upper retainer most of the time. A couple of months ago my metal wire retainer for the lower set broke and then when the orthodontist (Msian - Subang Orthodontist Specialist) had a look, basically the teeth had moved and she wasn't satisfied with the overall result from my previous braces so I decided to wear the braces again. From her explanation about the different types of braces etc, I thought it would be wise to invest in the Damon braces. She reckoned that I would probably need to wear for 1 year, at most.

Comparing the two types on several aspects:

1. Price - Damon system is definitely more expensive. My total cost is about 10K(including retainers). I'm paying RM2500+RM2500 then the rest by RM700 installments. I also initially inquired about the traditional braces, which were going to cost about RM2500 less, so if you opt for the stainless steel it's RM7500, more or less.

2. Appearance - Honestly, I think they look about the same, but with the Damon system, there is no rubber band fitted around the brackets so I guess you don't need to worry about the discolouration of the band or the wire coming out etc.

3. Pain/discomfort - Much the same. I normally eat soft food for the first 2 to 3 days. Pureed food, soups, porridge and after those first few days your teeth will function like normal and you can eat your usual meals. Always avoid nuts, chewing gum, biting into a whole apple or other fruits. Same rule applies to both, in fact maybe to all types of braces.
cry.gif
4. Overall effect/wearing time - This I cannot comment yet because I have only started wearing the Damon braces and I would think that even if I was wearing the same type of braces, there would still be the proficiency of the orthodontist to take into consideration hence it might vary with a different 'operator'. However, according to my orthodontist and what I've read, it could effectively reduce your wearing time by 6 months compared to traditional braces.

Sorry this was a bit lengthy but just sharing my experiences and thoughts. Hope it's useful!

BTW, I kinda like wearing braces. Anyone feels the same? hmm.gif

It was not a pleasant at all to wear braces.. ...
Sometime really feel like wanna have all the bracket and wire removed right away!!. . . cry.gif

Hi All,

I am thinking of getting a braces. Any recommendation for PJ area or KL that is near PJ?

I actually need something fast not too visible if possible. Too old for people in start asking and pointing fingers at. Budget less than RM10k.

Anyone can advise on lingual/concealed/invisible braces? cheaper?

Was thinking of getting an invasilign but was shocked by the price of RM16k.

Thanks.

Added on June 12, 2012, 2:44 pmApology.. 2 more question.

What is the difference between Damon Clear and Ceramic?

Which is better, cheaper and less visible?
*
I am wearing damon ceramic now.
Damon is a product name which is self-ligating braces. They are other brand like 3M which also provide the self-ligating braces.
Self-ligating braces is a new technology compare to rubber metal braces (The conventional one)..
Rubber metal braces will required more frequent visits for adjustment compare to self-ligation braces (4-6weeks once).
However. the duration of treatment will be shorter for self-ligation braces as compare to conventional braces.. .
There is also many review that self-ligating braces is more comfortable ...

If u are so afraid of losing any tooth, then just dont do it larh... Maybe u have crowded teeth so u are forced to extract some of the teeth.. Its compulsory larh dude.. I extracted 4 teeth for my braces.. No pain at all..
*
I have extracted 4 teeth as well . .
The first two was an unpleasant experience...
but another 2 after 2 weeks from first extration was quite tolerable.. .
Happy with my decision to go thru it. .
My gap has slowly closing up now. . smile.gif

Bro, how much your total cost include pull out some teeth ? thank you.
*
Teeth extraction RM80 each (Which is pretty much the standard fee these days)...
My orthodontist offer self-ligating (Damon) at around 6k+ for metal and 7k+ for ceramic. .
Excluding X ray and extraction . .

Self-ligating braces (Damon) is believed to be able to shorten the treatment period. . As the bracket able to tighten by its own. It is supposingly more comfortable than conventional rubber braces . ..
However, I opt for damon right away after google for the comparison between rubber and damon...
Do your research and consult your local orthondist for type of braces which will suit your need and budget.

I meet more than 3 before commit to my present orthondist.. .
