alright, this is the casing that i had around 2 years ago...... rolleyes.gif
eventually i abandoned it coz i got really bored with it already... shakehead.gif

so i'm gonna transform this Icutie into something flaming hot and i'm gonna put in everything that i know into it ..... rclxm9.gif

i'm going to post stage to stage mod and it's gonna take up a lot of space coz i'm gonna mod the whole casing and almost every part of it.

So stay tuned !

this is the original look

first of all, i dont have got a set of dremel like uncle Ianho has, so i got to go low tech a bit la....

this is called coping saw alright.
and i used around 5 intense hours to cut the design out. ( have to focus on my hand movement )

It isnt that easy as it seems to be, i replaced around 15pieces of the blade to cut this design alone

user posted image

basically, i've stripped down all the paint on the casing and torn the casing apart.
i know it's fugly, but I have not reached the paint job stage yet.....

okay, first of all, i started drawing some amoeba ( <= correct spelling or not laugh.gif ) like design with pencil. Then i made a point of entry for the blade which is a hole for each of the " tentacles ", and i cut out everything from there.

as you can see in the pics, the edges arent sharp yet coz i have not made them yet.

after 1 hour of making the sharp edges, filing it to smoothen the curves, this is what i've got.

it's a lot of hardwork working on this piece of crap, but i hope that i can turn this crap into a rolls royce laugh.gif

This is the strip down casing, when everything is ready, i'll repaint the whole thing.

user posted image

I've removed the whole CDROM bay, floopy and the HDD bay holder by removing all the rivets and will replace it with acrylic bracket to make all the bays look ' floating '

user posted image
user posted image

a 120mm fan can be fitted infornt, but i think i'll just need a 92mm in order to make my design fit nicely, so i've made a 120mm to 92mm converter to fit 92mm right in the middle of the metal casing and the plastic moulding face plate.

i'll add some surprise element to the fan later wink.gif

user posted image
user posted image

This is the shot taken from the top.
I'll make windows on my PSU as well as my CDRW and put some bling blings in there.

user posted image

After stripping off the metal mount for the drives, i've rebuild them using acrylic and it will be fitted with 2x HDD in front of the 92mm which will blow right pass it.

this is the front panel, the acrylic will be sprayed with flat black after i've configured all the knob and switches positions.

i've yet to install a frosted flame design in front.....

user posted image

this is what i've done for my top panel.....sprayed a layer of base black at the moment....havent sand it for second layer yet

i used tint and apply on the acrylic, it's a black and silver tint.
you'll only be able to see inside the casing when there's light but it will remain reflective all the time....

there's also a 92mm fan installed on top as intake.....

this is the blunder...when i drilled the hole, the tint layer was separated from the acrylic....looks like i've got to find a way to patch this flaw

so enjoy the pics !!! rclxms.gif

alright, here comes the frosted flame design, spent 2 hours with my coping saw to make this.

made a sketch on the acrylic and then start sawing from the side, then proceed to making the flame in the middle.....

unfortunately, there's this minor crack on one of the flame, but overall, it's still nice i think

okay, been really busy these few days with my things.....

my new sem is starting today at 8am and i'm here at 3.40am updating this thread cry.gif

the rest of the mod i will do it slowly coz my time is quite limited.....

alright, this is my Enermax 460W.

this is what i'm gonna to do to it :

1. make an acrylic for the top cover
2. cut out a window below the PSU's circuitry
3. spray the whole thing to black
4. add blue SMD LEDs to shine the circuitry + good insulation or else it will kaboom laugh.gif
5. add mirror acrylic on the back of the PSU.
6. change the fans (which will be done on the next phase)
7. sleeve + change the connectors. (which will be done on the next phase)

as the picture shows, 460W Enermax flex.gif

this is how the internal looks like, the heatsinks are in gold colour....... thumbup.gif
and the whole bunch of wires will give me a lot of problem when i want to sleeve doh.gif

user posted image

the ATX and the 12V cord is insulated making the cord really hard to bend...... rclxub.gif

user posted image

after removing the 4x screws that holds the circuit to the case, i'll need to remove the wires from the on/off switch so that i can strip the PSU to a metal casing only....

( warning : it is not as easy as it seen, please dont try this at home !!! laugh.gif )

this is the circuit board of the PSU, notice that there is no difference with the messy soldering regardless of how high end it is.
the only difference is that the components used in high end PSUs have better quality only

user posted image

Okay, after removing all the parts, i can continue with making a window for my PSU.

this is after i've made the window n the size of the window is within the size of the circuit board and therefore the view will be on the circuit board itself

for lighting purpose, i've used 16x SMD LEDs again.......clearance space is roughly around 4-5mm and there's no room for short circuit to occur coz anything goes wrong and my whole PSU and my rig will go kaboom man sweat.gif

this is the acrylic cover, there are some white stain on the acrylic......i will buff it later and i've fitted the nice screw nuts...

the whole bunch of cables were too thick and because the acrylic cover was not locked to the metal casing at the side, the cables ply open the side of the acrylic.....
no big deal actually, but i will fix it later.....

after fitting the LED to illuminate the back of the circuit and adding the tinted acrylic to cover the window, this is how it looks like....

mad.gif DAMN !!!! potong stim man, 4x of the LEDs must have shorted and burned during installatio of the LEDs but nothing happened to my PSU coz i insulated the wirings nicely de......

the acrylic blocked quite significant amount of light from the LEDs and still maintains some reflection....

old skool rig with old skool GC, FX - 5200......

this GC was tortured quite a number of times de and the capacitor even broke off when i tried to remove the GC laugh.gif

after removing the fugly heatsink that i modded last time, this is how it looks like.....

the blower you're looking at is actually the CoolerMaster Jet7 blower, the 70*70mm version.....
i sprayed the snail casing which was originally blurred, to UV orange and added 4x SMD LEDs into it.......

then i mounted the whole fan onto a new heatsink which i mounted on the GC.

due to the amount of pressure needed on to hold this thing, i was forced to build an acrylic backplate.....it's working so far so good as the backplate maintains the heatsink and the card's rigidity nicely......

just to remind about the tint, it's really hard to get the light penetration level that you wanted, especially if the sheet is blue on the other side, the UV setup will not look nice.

on the UV setup, i think it's not suitable coz UV glows nicely and it's not that bright you know, if you try to block it using tint, then the colour is no longer nice looking....

AFAIK, acrylic sheets are commonly available at shops which make signs (those name signs for shops to hang above their main entrance or door one...), jz walk into any sign making shop at that street and they should hv.

this mod is still in progress...i'm making 3 of these fans for the top exhaust, front intake and side intake....

it will be RGB coloured and will have fan speed control option as well as RPM reading connected to the Mobo....

first of all, i've sprayed the rotor and the frame of the fan to white so that it will shine nicely to the RGB LED.

I've made 2x 5mm holes to be fitted with the LED later

user posted image

these are the RGB LED which is diffused.

user posted image

the LEDs will be mounted into those holes there.
it's really difficult to drill those holes without major mistakes there

user posted image

okay, after i've completed wiring the whole thing, i mounted it on the front panel to see what it's gonna look like.......
i'll finally spray the front panel to black, so there will not be light from the acrylic as you can see....

btw, i'll get 7colour combination from the LEDs.......

so enjoy the pics

total of 6 sets to be exact, or 18 channels laugh.gif or 18 knobs rclxub.gif

3 channel for each fan, 4 fans in total, and 2 strips of RGB LED consists of 24LEDs per strip....

maybe u can figure out a combination where you can connect the led terminals in a series or parallel manner so that u can produce the same combination of colors with fewer controls. Fewer controls, but the connections not easy also rclxub.gif

guys, i've done something onto me CDROM and i've completed my dual ram cooler which is temperature controlled, but too bad i dont have the camera with me right now...

i'll update around thursday okies....

i've summed up a checklist of what i still got to do......and it's really long doh.gif

for top panel :
- cut a 92mm fan grill using tinted acrylic
- add another layer of paint
- put double sided tape to stick acrylic firmly
- spray interior of the top panel

for ram cooler :
- solder the thermistor lead out and extend it.
- solder 3 pin connection and sleeve the cables

for motherboard :
- single 60mm cooling for PWM area, using motherboard mounts, extend the thermistor and let it touch the PWM heatsink
- mod the 40mm SUNON fan and add bling bling on it.
- buy chipset heatsink
- put 40mm fan to blow onto the heatsink base
-

for PSU :
- change the rear fan into a blower setup, L acrylic pipe like roofing ventilation system
- add 80mm fan to the front.
- add multi-colour LED onto the 92mm fan
- change the 92mm fan if possible, coz it's barely spinning.
- cable sleeving
- get UV connectors.
- remove those unnecessary cables

for heatsink :
- make a design for the top fin/ remove the fugly glue stain
- get 8mm ' nut stud ' for the heatpipes, Scythe Ninja style
- make acrylic duct to get better airflow

for GPU :
- wire out the thermistor n touch the heatsink
- run the power from the main.

for HDD bracket :
- throw away the old bracket, cut another bracket and make design for it.
- drill holes for the bottom part.

for side panel (left) :
- cut a bigger window, as big as possible
- frosted flame design
- 92mm for the side panel
- temperature sensors if it's suitable
- trim the edges to make way for 127mm Delta tri-blade, 200cfm

for side panel (right) :
- cut 2x 80mm fan holes for panaflo 80mm L model
- frosted flame design

for interior :
- spray to flat black, make a box to hide the messy cables.
- make the PWM circuit into a design or hide it
- spray the delta-tri-blade 127mm to white, blade and the inner circular frame only.
- add multi-colour LEDs for the tri-blade.
- use black sponge to cover the PCI and the whole interior

for front panel :
- hide the ugly front part
- cut unnecessary parts, hide circuits over there.
- align knobs, vandal switches nicely, graphical LCD as well
- trim front panel to put in the CDROM

exterior :
- spray the back and the bottom part to black, find wheels to replace the current rounded plastic stands.
- put some lightings for the bottom

problems :
- 1x industrial blower, dont know where to put it
- wiring planning..... rclxub.gif
- 320*240 graphical LCD
- a lot of controls involved, 3x 92mm fan, 1x 127mm exhaust, CPU fan, lighting controls, 1 x blower speed control...
- no time doh.gif
- wirings !!! rclxub.gif
- PWM circuit involves 3x [ 3 channels RGB ] , 2x for lighting purposes, 1x for all the fans, 1x for 127mm, 1x for the blower exhaust.

hmmm......i cant believe that my to-do list is so long doh.gif
let me count how many knobs do i have

3 knobs for RGB, 3 sets of RGB
1 for 127mm
1 for 92mm CPU
1 for blower exhaust

total of 3*3 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 12 knobs !!!!

and 2x vandal switch for the reset and power

I am starting to think to wire everything into a controller box which is separate from the casing coz it's gonna make the casing look so complicated and messy......

okay, i've been using around 2 days to complete all these mod, and my battery out of juice, so i cannot show you guys my pimped 200cfm delta tri-blade which is uver cool doh.gif

so this is my old Liteon CDRW........I've made a window and added around 20pcs of LEDs inside.

The LEDs comprises of [ blue ] - [ white ] - [ white ] - [ blue ]- [ white ] - [ white ] - [ blue ]- [ white ] - [ white ] - [ blue ] ........
I purposely do it this way since pure white is too dull, and pure blue is way too ah beng...so i've decided to make it look like HID colour which is white with a blueish tone...

actually, this mod is not that hard because all the metal part of the drive can be removed. but becareful not to damage the circuit behind and particularly the disc head.

I'll put back the front bezel once i've completed my front panel design

see the array of LEDs inside ? the one with the yellow colour will emit white colour

user posted image

okay, money shot !!! It will look dimmer under my top panel, but it'll be cool i guess.
my initial plan was to make the colour change when it's reading, but i was too lazy to hook up the front LED to make it work....

this is the complete metal work on my casing, i'm not going to cut any metals on it anymore......

I've cut off some parts from the front panel, made the left side panel bigger, made a window on the right side panel, trim the rear part of the left side panel.....

and all is ready for the acrylic and some design to be installed inside !!!!

i've also finished up the spray job on the whole casing, the interior is black and i will cover it with sound absorbing material.....not capalang stuff !!!! flex.gif

The areas that i dont spray will not be seen when everything is assembled

Finally, i think my coping saw has not disappoint me at all despite i break a lot of saw blades......the window is not crooked and i think the rounded edges are quite good also....

Okay, time for my new design !!!

Dual 60mm NMB, thermal controlled ram coolers.....

I'll finish up the ugly wiring and connect the thermal sensors to my rams to make the temperature control thing working again.....

my Titan heatsink top is damn ugly, but i will do something about it very soon.......

user posted image

These are the money shots........actually i've assembled everything inside my casing before and it looks great !
The whole dark area under the CPU will be lighted up and the UV yellow effect is there !!!

Wow, very nice..is that a ram cooler with 60mm fan instead of 40mm? Btw where did you buy those 3 channel LED? Been looking in many electronic shops, can't find any.

A note-ever wonder why none of the PSU manufacturers leave gaps/windows on the PSU case? Its not just to avoid itchy fingers getting electrocuted, its to protect the computer from the large ammount of electromagnetic waves from the PSU switching circuits (we're talking 10++ A ripple current here, even HPs use way less in their transmitters). With the PSU so close to the processor and chipset, its likely that they would be affected-might be problematic especially for high speed processors, overclocking will be hell. In the most severe cases, it may be necessary to underclock and overvolt to ensure stable operation.

PS:-took your advice on the Delta EFC and my TT pipe101, sealed the airflow and got a drop of 1-3C on lower fan speed. Modified the VR with 2 resistors, 1 in serial and 1 parallel, now have more precise adjustment of the fan speed (half circle of VR), now adjusting further to get full circle control.

that is a dual 60mm ram cooler.....controlled by thermistor which is touching the rams....
those LEDs i cannot reveal where i get it, but it's definitely not from here blush.gif

i thought that EMT will only affect through the wires and does not comes from the circuit ?

Hmm, now that I see a 60mm ram cooler, now I'm interested. Didn't think much of your ram coolers at first (I'm very biased against 40mm fans-drive me up the wall with their noise and inefficiency and keep failing on me). After I solve my CPU, NB & VGA cooling issues (water cooling, yeah!) I might just get a dual 60mm or larger ram cooler..perhaps something for the power MOSFETs too..hope you can help me on this.. About the LEDs, maybe can buy from you? Give you some business..if can't get from here would be inconvenient for me to get..right now don't need yet, but maybe in near future..

EM covers anything from radio waves to light to x-rays to gamma rays. PSUs use MOSFETs which switch many thousands of times per second, they would emit radio waves which can affect signals in a PC system-thats why they're covered in metal with fairly small gaps-bigger gaps let out too much EM waves. Actually PC casings are also meant to be that way, sheild the whole PC from potential interference from the outside using the Faraday cage effect. However cutting large holes in a casing is not as bad as exposing a PSU-a PC can live without its casing as by luck there may be no EM sources nearby (assuming PSU retains its sheilding) while removing a PSU metal case is like exposing an already well known EM source to the PCs circuitry. Components that pass the US FCC will be able to survive this even in long term, but the certification does not require the component to function properly, just survive.

Read about your heatpipe accident, that was a really nasty one. Wonder how many PC enthusiasts know that heatpipes are filled with liquid/compressed gas?

hey guys, i was really busy since October.....and this is the latest updates.....

okay, basically, i've used a server line 127*127*38mm Delta Tri-blade fan which is capable of doing 200cfm, 4600rpm for my exhaust......
i'll be wiring up this monster with a PWM controller to control the speed because i seriously cant take this monster 24/7 on full speed and voltage controller cant do it because it's too high amp (around 2.76A) at full speed and it's gonna actually give out a lot of heat if i use voltage controller......so it's not an efficient way to do so....

this is how it looks before it's modded.....

user posted image

i've added 2x multi-colour LEDs on each side and i've cut off the epoxy dome like the mod that i've done for the NMB low speed....

these things have been holding me for quite some time now, which is a PWM controller for my multi-colour LEDs for the lighting part.......

i've finally solved the problem once and for all, and do you know what's the problem ?
originally, the LEDs started to flicker like the monitor at lower refresh rate........i get really dizzy staring into it and i'm sure that i dont want that in my casing.......

so took some time to troubleshoot what is wrong with it...

as you can see here, there are 3 individual channels on each of the PCB....each channel control one colour of the RED, GREEN and BLUE.....
theoretically speaking, it can generate 23million colours, or any colour that you want !!!

I've made 3 sets of this controller set, 2 sets for general lighting and 1 for the fans....
i can actually make separate sets for each of the fans, but it's gonna make it look real messy cos each channel has got 3 knobs....and currently it's standing at 9 knobs for lighting only......

well, i have to admit that i'm an LED freak and i like lightings a lot....cant escape from the bling bling fever....

anyway, i've wired up 2 sets 24pcs of multi-colour LEDs with reflector stickers at the bottom and i'll place this like those CCFL in the casing...i'll build the stand for it soon......

this is the front panel, the acrylic will be sprayed with flat black after i've configured all the knob and switches positions.

i've yet to install a frosted flame design in front.....

user posted image
this is what i've done for my top panel.....sprayed a layer of base black at the moment....havent sand it for second layer yet

i used tint and apply on the acrylic, it's a black and silver tint.
you'll only be able to see inside the casing when there's light but it will remain reflective all the time....

there's also a 92mm fan installed on top as intake.....

this is the blunder...when i drilled the hole, the tint layer was separated from the acrylic....looks like i've got to find a way to patch this flaw

so enjoy the pics !!!  rclxms.gif

helloooooo guys......

i've started modding my casing since last week and there has been some ups and downs.....

to start off with, i've replaced another 'mirror' acrylic for the top panel to replace the round hole with the exact blowhole of a focus flow....might mount a focus flow there, but i have yet to decide....

user posted image

ok, here are all the things i intend to put in.......might increase the 92mm to around 5pcs in total...

right now, i'm covering the ugly part of my casing, which is because this is an ICUTE, a lot of components such as the rivets and metals get rusty pretty quickly.....

to give it the rolls royce shine, i had cover those parts with 'carpets' to make them shine......

i used those black insulation matt (not really sure what they are called) to cover the rear and the PCI parts.....

basically, i'm using two types here...one of it is the thick one, which is around 5mm thick to use as a base for the bottom of the casing which look a bit grey and another type which is more towards furnishing surface type of matt

user posted image

this is the rear part of the casing, frankly it's really ugly and the paint job was quite a shabby one too.....therefore i've decided to cover them up to make them look nicer and also to protect the surface from any form of scratches..

besides that, the matt will also act as a vibration absorber since i will mount my 127mm Delta tri-blade outside of the casing......the fan is mounted outside to give a cleaner look in the casing itself and it couldnt fit inside also

user posted image

i've also trimmed off some parts of the side panel because the side panel cannot be closed if it wasnt trimmed due to the 127mm fan.....

user posted image

alright, i'll just tear off the sticker off the matt and stick the whole sheet onto the rear...then i'll trim it using the art/sticker penknife.....it really comes in handy when you need to do some detailing trimming.....expensive as well because i need to trim off a lot of corners......if not mistaken, changed around 6blades just for the rear panel itself....

this pics shows the making of the blowhole

user posted image

this is for the PSU

user posted image

and the rest for the PCI and the I/O panel....

user posted image

as you can see in the pic, some part of the matt couldnt attach nicely because there are rivets behind it....so i had to use glue to close up that gap

user posted image

this is the complete (not yet completed actually) rear panel surface

i use black marker pen with a fine tip to cover all those white sticker which spoils the look.....

right now, i do have a lot of things to modify especially lightings fans and such...but my trademark frosted flame grill got KOed in the process of modding cry.gif cry.gif

I was really devastated by that man....worked so hard on it and i forgot that i already mounted on my casing.....when i turn the casing around, i tilt my casing and heard a crack !!! thats it !!! it's gone mad.gif mad.gif

right now, have to go on modding without that one.......have to leave that one for the last part....

user posted image

after i've screwed in the sidepanel, i realized that my sidepanel couldnt shut firmly because the matt is not compressible...hence i started trimming the matt again !!!

this is the interior of the casing which i used the 5mm black sponge to cover it....

do note that this is not the final layer which i will use for the flooring of the base.......

as i still have a lot of wirings to do, i will have to make way for the wirings through the sponge itself and cover it with another layer of black matt for the final surface..

user posted image

i've covered the 'sharkfin' vents using the black matt

user posted image

this will be the final looks for the interior....

this is how it looks without flash.....the joint lines arent that noticeable under normal condition

Very nice work bro! Thinking of a design similar to yours (thanks for the inspiration) but without the flame design; prefer clean lines. Maybe will try it out later this year; will be my first adventure into case modding (or rather case building, as I plan to construct it from scratch)

I've mentioned this before-with no metal sheilding covering your PSU expect overclocking to suffer due to EM emissions from the PSU. If you're unlucky (I hope not), you may even have trouble keeping it stable at stock. Share your experience when you have time.

err.......my barton is still running at the OCed speed without a glitch....

btw i think i can run my PC at full load without a CPU fan blowing onto the heatsink.....my airflow is strong and efficient enough to do that already laugh.gif

i have not really calculated yet.....but i think will go near to RM 600 at least.....the most expensive part is yet to be seen laugh.gif

i estimate that i'll have around 18knobs for lightings, 2 Vandal switch for RESET and POWER, a few knobs for the fan speed, a few flip switch for the pulsating lightings

there will be roughly around 90pcs of multi-colour LEDs and some Luxeons if i have the time to mod them laugh.gif

crap...one week left only....got to hurry up

Huh...still waiting for this case to be completed...
It will be one of the best we've seen on LYN thanks to his motto: Modding with Passion.

Bro, maybe someday you can start ur own label, then my modded by Allngap Nidec will be the trademark of my rig...laugh.gif

Btw, just realised how cool those multi channel leds are, hmm...thinking of something now. Will find u when budget allows...

Wah, LED mania..

But one thing, the front panel now looks like a HiFi set with all the knobs...some more with all the fans it really looks like a super bling-ed up amplifier that needs lotsa cooling..

And I see a DFI board there, when did you upgrade your Barton?

this is the front panel, the acrylic will be sprayed with flat black after i've configured all the knob and switches positions.

i've yet to install a frosted flame design in front.....

this is what i've done for my top panel.....sprayed a layer of base black at the moment....havent sand it for second layer yet

i used tint and apply on the acrylic, it's a black and silver tint.
you'll only be able to see inside the casing when there's light but it will remain reflective all the time....

there's also a 92mm fan installed on top as intake.....

this is the blunder...when i drilled the hole, the tint layer was separated from the acrylic....looks like i've got to find a way to patch this flaw

so enjoy the pics !!!  rclxms.gif
