yeah, the scene '300' is better known as Battle of Thermopylae took place 100 year before Alexander the Great, who go and wiped out the persian 100 nations.

For those criticizing the cg as being not realistic and fake, read this interview with one of the person that worked on the art direction in the movie. Things like the not so real blood, sky color, etc were done like that on purpose to match the original illustrated novel.
