We will be going to have a 5*.
And I don't even have 4*.

4s will soon become common. I juz worry that 2s will also lose their value very soon.
... for new gamers, these lower cards are what you started with. You build your teams from these.
First you build your 2* rosters. When I started the game, 160k looked daunting. I could barely scratch 90k in the 3* arena. Now I could do 300-400k in a day if I really grind. If I paced myself, I could easily do 180k daily between breaks - enough to earn a 3*. Until now my roster is not good enough for 4* arena but i am getting there. I will not talk about 4* roster. Not yet.
For the longest time I have a SINGLE 4* I could not promote pass rank 2. My point is that 4* does not do much for you in an arena unless you could get many of those. The game is not designed that way. There is no short cut to it. You could not hack to it. You have to spend tons of money to quickly acquired the 4* roster, or you go the painful way - opening crystals and doing arenas. Obviously lots of these as the drop rate is abysmal and the cutoff is ridiculous.
Yes, 4* is good for quests. So does your maxed 3*. My advise is play the game but do not expect instant gratification. Keep your units. Do not use your units to buy crystals even the 3* other than 4*. Farm the premium crystals PC instead. Leisurely you could get 4-5 PCs every week from arena milestones and crystal cornucopia, more if you grind hard. If you desire the 3*, they are in the arena reward or PCs at about 3-4% drop rate. Build your 3* roster from there - no need to use units for the 3* crystals. Use your units ONLY for 4* crystals or 5* when time comes.
I see a more layered platforms coming. You could stay in your comfort zone and play casually - not in the competitive arena or demanding alliance, which is still enjoyable enough for passing time.
Otherwise you just have to work your way up or if you are tired of it, get out...
