I can't recall if anyone has posted about this type of thing before. I just found out about it because of some ringtone ad that showed up while I was looking through a tech blog. Take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito_Ringtonehttp://www.jetcityorange.com/MosquitoRingtone.htmlhttp://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/12/technolo...&pagewanted=allOur hearing deterioriates as we get older and we lose hearing in the higher frequency ranges. This is natural, a condition called presbycusis. The human range of hearing is from 20Hz to 20,000 Hz. Exceed this range and we cannot hear anything. Expose yourself to everyday sounds and eventually you'll begin to lose hearing in the upward range. What's the big idea behind this ringtone? It's a simple 17,000 Hz frequency sound wave. Set it as your ringtone and hope that your teachers can't pick it up. Just thought it was something interesting The idea was originally put to use as "an ultrasonic teenager repellent" "to keep teenagers from congregating outside of shops late at night". Now it has practical application on your phone. Hmm!

QUOTE(exkay @ Sep 22 2006, 01:59 AM) i have the ringtone with me.. heheh but never use it. too soft.. or maybe i'm getting old. Care to post it up? I'm eager to try it. Is it a MIDI or WAV or MP3 file? If it's MP3, my phone won't play it. I do have a mosquito ringtone, but I think it's not the one that's mentioned here since I can hear it loud and clear. I'm actually quite deaf because I always have to "HAH?" or "Sorry, repeat please?" when people talk to me.

I put them there for a reason I don't think my dog likes the sound. My mom can't pick it up, and I prefer using my phone's vibrator. All in all, it's a neat little idea. Now I'm wondering if there's any software that I can run to generate frequencies to test my hearing.
