Hello there. New Lowyat member here.
As any of you Malaysians know, getting anime/manga stuff in Malaysia is difficult. Many of them selling here are bootlegs. For manga, there's only the popular ones selling, like Naruto, Detective Conan etc. Other than that, I see no more manga. Anime DVDs are even worse, all of them are bootlegs and there's no, I repeat, NO legit copy of anime DVDs selling here. As for Blu-Rays, I see none at all (There are bootleg anime DVDs that have a case that looks like a blu-ray, but says DVD on the top, which is hilarious.) I'm not entirely sure about video games, maybe you could ask your local game store to help import them for you, but I never tried asking them. As for other stuff like figures, lucky for me I know a store that imports them directly from Japan. However, the posters, mousepads etc, are bootlegs I believe.

So, my questions are
1. are they actually any way to obtain legit anime stuff without having to go on the internet and buy them?
2. are there any types of anime/manga merchandises that are banned in Malaysia?
3. Are there any anime/manga banned in Malaysia?
4. If you were to import manga/anime online (or just blu-rays and dvds in general), do they have to get sent to the Malaysian Censorship Board first? Because I don't want my manga/anime to get censored in any way at all.

manga and artbook stuff, you got kinokuniya
you can get original jepunis version or translated english version from viz, tokyopop, etc at kino too. If the one you are searching for not there, you can straight make you order at kino's counter.

as for animu, you got internutz yo, just amazon, cdjapan or hmv ffs

if you are wondering if the customs check your purchased shits, just try to purchase stuff with decent covers. They will (probably) leave your item content unchecked if the cover is not passing pornography borderline.

Customs don't open your boxes so they wouldn't get to see whether the figurine is nude or what not.

1. Most shop sell bootleg except some famous good one like the one in Berjaya Square which focus on Japan anime product/figure (forget the name)
2. anything our minister tak suka
3. anything our minister tak suka
4. Don't think they so rajin custom censor for you, either they just fine you and return the item to you or just burn it in fire

Seriously they are so many benefit to online order compare to go physical shop - a lot of choice and sites to compare, online user review, confirm better price to physical shop, ban item be import, get the product on first release date no need wait, etc too much benefit
Once you go online you won't walk go physical shop unless you want to examine physical product

also as stated by so many forummer here, keep below RM500, then ban ehem product also can be import

i know some people do own those high end RM20k "sex doll" through black market, even those airsoft AK47 etc can be bought if you willing to pay 5-7times the price sompare in Hong Kong, mostly seludup from Thailand border

So basically ban or not doesn't matter, is just whether your willing to pay extra 5 times compare non ban country

Interesting.

Consider these two situations:

1. You buy something deemed indecent from online stores. It could be H-tankoubons, doujinshis, whatever. Then you pay extra to have the seller make the parcel/packaging as "innocent" as possible.

2. You went to Comiket, and bought one (or dozens) too many doujinshis and merch. You're most likely way over your weight limit, and you can't fit all of them into your luggage. You pack them up real nicely and securely (though considering the sheer quantity, you can't cover them up 100%), and have a Japanese courier send it back to your home.

What are the odds of customs discovering your treasure? If they do, would they run around telling on everyone, like a kid telling on you "Ha! You like these things!"?

In the end is luck.

Good luck when you deal with an officer that just happen to go clean and bust your ass for corruption like the recent scapegoat news I've been seeing recently laugh.gif

They would take notice if it's something banned from the country, I guess?
There's so many Hollywood movies I want that are banned. But for these movies, at least you can find a ban list online. This is not the case with anime/manga. I cannot find a ban list of anime online, which means I am stuck with being lucky or not if the anime I bought will either arrive to me or... I don't know. The only thing I know that are probably banned here are hentai related stuff, not sure about ecchi ones.

1. They ship in brown box with very simple description on delivery docket. I don't know how much more innocent you want. biggrin.gif

2. Should be alright as long as the size and value doesn't arouse suspicion.

Pornography, and child pornography are huge no-nos, that much is for certain. I was wondering if H-materials are considered as.

Well technically, they *are*, but still.

Just for reference, I purchased Steins;Gate (the officially translated physical copy) from J-list , Fate/Zero Blu-Ray box collection from Rightstuf, and a shirt from a certain website which name begins with the letter F. I had no problems with those, but of course none of these are of offensive nature.

I however, did brought back a luggage stuffed with doujinshi during one of my trips to Tokyo, both perfectly SFW and NSFW ones. Went scarily swimmingly.

Guess I was pretty lucky with my luggage as written above. If they do discover my stuff, do I lose any hope of getting them all back?

1. I was thinking more along the lines of actually switching the jacket of the book with something safer. The jackets are unfortunate casualties, as long as I get the actual stuff safely.

2. Hm. Would a box stuffed to the brims with thin A4 books (like 10-20 pages thick) be suspicious? As for value, you mean the price of each individual book? They cost around 800-1000 yen each. It's been a while, but I remember plonking down several 10000 yen notes in one transaction.

I don't think custom will be so childish, either songlap or confiscation or fine

So far i have online purchase sex toy like tenga etc, the heaviest toy is a 2kg Silicon Oppai, no problem also maybe i'm lucky
I also bring the sex doll myself in my check in luggage when my trip to akihabara, also no problem

To mod: delete this reply if you think haram to talk about, thanks no ban
